Dragon Age: Origins

Hmm, interesting how this is going to work

We usually think we're too smart for FAQs, preferring the sort of random, only moderately relevant questions that no one ever asks. But the FAQ for Dragon Age: Origins Awakening does provide some pretty useful insight. For instance, we learned that the expansion won't appear on disc for PS3 owners living in Europe. It seems like an odd decision to make, but perhaps you European PS3 fans can enlighten us. Do you guys just hate discs without us knowing it? If so, why did you let us keep buying you all those discs for Christmas without saying anything?

Less perplexingly, we saw that lovably grouchy dwarf Oghren plays a "large role" in the expansion, which is great news for all thinking people.

So I guess for anyone that has preordered this for the ps3 will just be getting a code sent to them

Can anyone log in to the EA servers today (PC version)? I keep getting "System Error" which means I can't play the game at all. Very frustrating.

Also, for some reason, the BioWare Social site is now completely set to "leet speak" for me so I can't find anything on there either. God knows how that happened but I can't work out how to reset it.

I hate PC gaming. :o

2.5 – Will my items, armor, stats, etc transfer over if I import my character from Dragon Age: Origins? (Back to top)

Almost all items are imported with your character. The only exceptions are the Origins promotional items and DLC loot, which were meant for Origins alone.

Boo! My Warden uses the Blood Dragon armor as a tank, with surprisingly good results, both for damage absorbtion and dishing out damage. Was hoping to be able to use it in the xpac :)

Well thats the urn of ashes done :). I did have a crack at ringing the gong while I was there but my team of level 13/14's lasted about 20 seconds in their pathetic attempt. Mind you thats probably only 4 wipes in this play through, one of which was a similarly bonkers crack at Flemeth. My main character only has 2 injuries on her stats so far too (Haven, Redcliffe, Lothering, a good chunk of Denerim, Brecillian Forest, the Mages Tower and various other bits and bobs all done). It just goes to show that, when you have half an idea as to what you are doing, the game isn't hard and nor does it have the unneccessary difficulty spikes picked up in most of the original reviews; the reviewers were crap at it, is all :(

The game certainly has difficulty spikes and the only way to avoid them is choosing to follow a certain path in the way you visit each place. I personaly didn't encounter any spikes but many of my friends, who didn't follow my path, had them.

It goes without saying that if you know what you are doing everything is easier. Unless you pick a mage which means that your journey will be like taking a vacation for the most part, due to how easy the game becomes of course.

DAO is a good game but it's generaly unbalanced as an RPG.

edit: Only the PC version was patched for the difficulty, and only in certain places.

And given the 2 or 3 week delay for the PS3 version it was probably 'pre-patched' at launch. I'm only carrying one mage this time, Morrigan, in this play through but, yep, even with her alone there's a few obvious spells that she can learn and pretty much blast off 90% of the time that seem to make a massive difference. I don't think trying certain places in a particular order makes alot of difference though other than maybe trying to get all through the denerim back alleys perhaps but, even then, you don't need to fully open those up till later really.

Completed! Twice, actually, given the choice at the end (have a save just before too as there's another choice during the end-game one must make... the whore!). 62 hours in total.

Yeah, great end-game game play although I lost a part member  Now I can ditch this guy (I love profile/face editors!) and create a few newbies for some origin stories. I'll get through it again one day, it's a really good game worthy of the additional time.

I keep getting dragged back to this by the interactions and conversations with my party members, but really that's the only hook it has for me now. The world just feels so.....soulless, there are certainly some good concepts and ideas but none of it really connects, too much is familiar and I feel no drive to uncover more of it. I get the sense there's still a lot ahead of me so I'm probably going to shelve it quite soon, life is too short for a timesink game that I want to love but just 'sort of' like.

This is the hardest game I've ever played. And I'm on Normal. What the chuff is it like on Nightmare?

And if that harlot Morrigan gets lippy with my decisions again, I'm going to smack her teeth out.

Even if you could smack her teeth out you'll just become even more infuriated as "Morrigan disapproves" flashes up on the screen again.

There's bits and pieces that are just too hard at low level. Revenants, for one, if your party consists of a weak tank, a rogue, and two mages - one of whose attack spells are all cold and therefore have no effect, and the other one is really not a specialist at all (Morrigan).

Strolled through the Mage's Tower, and now completed the forest (although not the super powerful Revenants - I think I've got the standard Revenants sorted).
