Dragon Age: Origins

If I hadn't played dragon Age to death and rate Bioware as one of the top 3 devs in the world these crappy trailers would be putting me off buying this expansion. Good thing I know different I guess..

I think they rely on the fact that the hardcore Bioware fans such as ourselves aren't going to even bother watching the trailers, on the basis that all of the marketing has been targetted at some other demographic.

My PS3 version got patched to version 1:01 this morning; anyone know what that actually did?

Okay found it...

BioWare and Sony have now published a patch for the PS3. Please check

your Playstation Home network or Dragon Age: Origins launcher for

details.

Patch notes:

- Various changes have been made to code and resources to support the Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening expansion pack.

-

At higher levels, non-player characters now receive a bonus to armor

penetration. This mitigates an unintentional imbalance with

well-armored high-level characters, since armor penetration previously

did not scale as aggressively as armor itself did.

-

Elite-rank enemies (lieutenants) can no longer be shattered. This

preserves the intended tactical design of many combat encounters.

- Portraits for summoned creatures were displaying improperly while in the party camp. This no longer occurs.

-

All book-based specializations will now automatically unlock once the

Warden reaches level 14. Books will still be available from vendors so

you can unlock these specializations before level 14.

- Modified game-side achievement system to allow adding new ones.

- Fixed a streaming problem that made props disappear. This no longer occurs.

I doubt I'll even notice the difference...

Poor Stolly. The rest of us buggered off to save the galaxy from the terror of snide accusations and disingenuous assertations and here you are all alone keeping the flame alive.

I gotta admit, for all the wonderful things Dragon Age did right, I'm having a hard time mustering up the enthusiasm to go back to a world of mute protagonists now. Especially ones without the mighty RIGHT HOOK.

I'm more or less in the same boat as Ulala. Although for what it's worth it's not the mute protagonist thing that bothers me most, it's the static nature of conversations. I felt ME1 was massively inferior to Dragon Age, but ME2 gave me pretty much everything I wanted from an RPG, a game, hell, even from sci-fi.

I'll probably get and enjoy Awakening, but it'll feel like a bit of a step back.

They are totally different games for me and I don't mind being mute at all as I find it impossible to play a male character in Mass Effect now, having the main character voiced is an all or nothing deal for me. Jennifer Hale though :(

Dragon Age is just so much more complex than Mass effect as well and it's a true squad game by which I mean you take direct control of your team plus the combat system is much more complex as well. They are just totally different games and I'll have no problems going back for the expansion, I'm just not sure if I will buy it on release as I've just finished Baldur's gate and ToTSC and I' now starting on BG2 and I'd like to get that finished.

Plus dragons are way cooler than collectors

I just realised that apart from an attempt to play fallout 3, the game hates my PC, I have played nothing but Bioware games for around the last 6 months.

:( :(

I'm just plodding on, something like 60 hours in and counting, but promise to stop at the end of this play through (before moving on to FFXIII hopefully). I'm very frustrated that my PC is too clunky nowadays to play ME2 (or even ME come to that) and Napoleon Total War but you can't have everything in life..... <mumble, grumble...>

I'm well and truly suckered into the thing at the moment, although seem to be spending far too much time at the camps giving gifts to various people and seeing what happens. I suspect Alastair wants to roger me silly, but he's gonna be well disappointed...

Actually, here's a question for ya:

Are there any repurcussions for NOT killing Flemmeth when you have the chance to? I just gave Morrigan the grimoire book and didn't elaborate on the whole killing aspect, and she seems happy enough, but I'm getting an awful feeling that the old hag's gonna pop up again and cause me grief!

No repercussions that I know of, never having actually killed that person. I did try this time but at a far too early stage and my team must have knocked a squillionth off her health before getting roasted. That said I could soon be up for another crack

Stolly isnt alone, though I havent played this since I finished it about 3 months back I think now. Its still awesome, best fantasy RPG since....well I dont know since, as nothing like it really is on a console. This is like Mass Effect only for those who like fantasy over sci fi, or, like me, for people who love both types of genres. Really looking forward to the expansion, my Warrior kicked serious arse though I am a bit worried that I'll start it with no armor on as he used the Blood Dragon Armor, and that doesnt work in the expansion so I hear

I'm really enjoying a relaxed run through this setting up my character for the expansion. Basically it's a tri-mage run as far as possible with Shale or Ali as the fourth. Definitely no rogues, so traps are a pain, but there is not a great deal of gear to buy for this team so I can do without the stuff in locked chests. So far as combat is concerned, the more enemies the merrier since the gals get to cast their AoE spells and I get cracking with walking explosion or mana clash and it's over in a trice. Superb stuff. No particular moral path being followed - just doing what seems right at the time really, but I fancy ending the game as

queen

since I haven't achieved that so far. So far the thing which has pissed Wynne off most was sleeping with the elven lad :) Even stabbing Genitivi in the back didn't compare. Still finding lots and lots of new bits of dialogue and detail in the codex which I didn't bother with the first few times. I love the pacing too - the relaxed interludes in camp and the fairly brief bursts of action.

In a way I wish there was an achievement for completing the game on hard or hardest difficulty because it would force me to play much more carefully (the friendly fire implications of using 3 mages would be interesting to say the least).

Apologies if this is old...

Live Marketplace release date & price for Awakenings.

that's around £25 then? Game are saying the pc version will cost £15 when it's released. I probably won't get it on release anyway as while Baldur's gate was a decent game, Baldur's gate 2 is fucking awesome so far and I'm not putting it down to play anything.

Well my team numero duo have just concluded the Landsmeet and are now good to go 'for it'.......... but unfortunately FFXIII has arrived. Maybe they need a breather anyway; I've nearly got 150 hours of mileage out of Dragon Age so far which is not bad at all for an Edge 5 :lol:

Seems its the 19th for the UK, but some stores may have released it early due to the digital download and they'd lose sales as a result. That means most will have to wait till Friday I guess unless theyre lucky.

Edit: Amazzon UK has it for Friday on the PC here

Also this is a pamphlet that comes with Awakening apparently:

Can anyone remember how far before the final encounter you have access to the world map? I'm quite keen to re-do 'Return to Ostagar' prior to another go at the finale to set myself up for the expansion (

my dude died originally, but I want to carry him on now

; but not if it'll be too much of a mission.
