Sony E3 Conference: Done & Dusted

They didn't waste our fucking time showing us shit that's borderline irrelevant because it's nowhere near finished.

Lips and Scene It will be irrelevant.

MS might have well canned those me-too games all the same.

Let alone show them to us.

What if you're not still at school and everyone in your year has a PS3 and all had set up MAG every weekend with everyone forming different parties, taking up their own roles in battle and letting their characters develop over time?

Would Sony still win?

I tried to buy some polygons the other day but couldn't because Resistance 2 was using them all. They even had to use some of the interior polygons from the game in order to make him so big. I bet there's a soldier somewhere in R2 reduced to little more than a truncated tetrahedron, floating about quietly sobbing because he has lost all his polygons.

He won't be sobbing out loud though, that monster has taken all available sounds for its ROAR.

The thing about MAG is that it does sound like a nice idea, nobody is going to dispute that. But think how long ago Killzone 2 was first announced, via its pre-rendered trailer. That was three years ago and it's still not out. MAG clearly hasn't been developed anywhere near enough to be shown (they could have greenlit it two months ago just in time to make a movie for the conference for all we know) and we'll be watching trailers from E3 2011 by the time we get to play it.

10 year life cycle, my friend.

On that note, nice to see Sony still keeping up the PS2 love. And to think its two years younger than the Xbox Microsoft couldn't ditch fast enough.

Stingo's called it again, this time with a cracking post that almost makes sense!

What the fuck is going on? It's like all the sheer bollocks in the universe got condensed into one thread. What the fucking fuck has happened to E3? What the fucking fuck is happening to this fucking industry!? I need to lie down.

This thread is the dark matter cosmologists have been seeking, old friend. :(

Haha, on Neogaf the Sony E3 thread has already got the most replies - and it's barely been an hour or so since their presentation finished! Everyone's pretty psyched about MAG too in the Sony thread.

They probably will. But if I did want to play them at least I'd be able to within the year. That's the beauty, you can take or leave anything that MS showed and be presented with an entirely new lineup next year. In fact I dont think MS showed anything that was due beyond 9 months time, with the latest being Resi 5.

Showing a 'game' that you'll have to wait until the next e3 to see gameplay footage of, then the e3 after that for a playable demo, to be finally released the christmas after that, that's irrelevant. Irrelevant to anyone that actually wants to play games.

I'm psyched out too, I haven't seen such a shit pre rendered CGI clip since 1995.

I'm making a pact not to visit this thread ever again. Yeah I'll miss Tim, but at least I won't have my eyes insulted by the undiluted shit people cling to as "opinions".

You with me?

That's just great.

I might buy me one of these Neogaf things tomorrow.

I was at school today and can tell you that wouldn't happen. That isn't to say it sounds bad, just that I need more details before I can declare it anything of anything. Namely: how does the whole thing come together and how do the 8 man squads influence the overarching war.

I dunno. Through the magic of software, I guess. :(

Oh yeah, and how does building up your character work. I've always been suspicious of that in a game, it just seems to hamper people who can't play it often even more than usual.

I'd assume it's optional, but presumably there'd be some sort of balncing feature to make sure each sides got an equal number of strong and weak players.

Let's face facts, people. Massive Action Game is the Megaton. It even kind of alliterates. Sony are geniuses.

And like here, they are probably too busy talking about how fucking lame it was! Never have I seen a worse conference, EVER!

The best thing was InFamous. Crackdown + force powers = ALL OVER MY FACE PLZ.

The rest was wank. Except for LBP, but only because I have the biggest hard-on ever for platformers.

Don't forget MAG, Neogaf is all over it, PSYCHED!!!!

The way it works is, you move up in rank, which effects your characters role. In other words, the best players - who know what they're doing and play it seriously all the time, they're the commanders in charge. They direct the overall flow of the battle, perhaps even leading a maximum of 128 players (divided into squads) on their side of the battle. Then it gets broken down into generals, lieutenants, etc, decreasing in rank and experience as they go down. So the newbies will be limited to being footsoldiers at first, and if they can show they've got skills - by killing people and not getting killed - they'll move up in rank so that they can then lead their group of eight, and then the big masses that you see in the trailer.

It's proper battle stuff, and it's a flagship title which is clearly gonna get a lot of money and time thrown at it now that it's been announced as the big E3 title.

Having not read any of this thread yet (I will!), what do people think about the price drop? Do you think it will be enough for the PS3 to start making serious in-roads against the 360 in the US now?
