TRON: Legacy

Let's hope this does better than the first, because it's apparently going to be the most expensive movie ever made. Potential epic fail ahead if they aren't careful.

That's got to be bollocks, surely. I mean it's made up entirely of rather abstract CGI - put simply that's not as expensive as ultra-photorealistic stuff. I fully expect it to be impressive, but Tron is/was meant to be fairly minimalist.

It's possible they're working on the principle that, since computer graphics have changed massively since the original film, the world Tron is set in will have changed, too.

Well, that teaser trailer they showed was still very much in the Tron style. I mean, it's obviously going to be really impressive visually, and probably a CG showcase, but it's still going to be fairly abstract, which is cheaper than super-photo realistic stuff. I mean, what really costs in these films is doing stuff in real life, like actually going down to the Titanic, or buliding those ridiculous floating sets in Waterworld. A purposefully abstract and minimalist style is just cheaper.

  • 3 months later...

If they don't get the colour black to look right in this film I'm going to angrily throw my (pre-painted with luminous paint) frisbee at the cinema screen and watch it unimpressively bounce off the screen.

Then be removed from the premises.

Seriously? TR2N is apalling. Those 'replace a letter with a number' names are always shit, and they only vaguely work if the number sort of replaces the letter (3 looks like a backwards E, sort of). TR2N doesn't work. 2 doesn't even vaguely replace O.

Tron Legacy is shit, but at least you can pronounce it.

Wait Tron 2, 3D, Jeff Bridges and Daft Punk?!?!

Does it get any better?

I'm re-watching Tron right now :blah: fucking awesome

It's really not. It's a confused mess of a film. Don't get me wrong, i do like it somewhat, but the only thing it has going for it are the visuals. The story is arse, the acting is awful... It's a mess. I mean, a guy invents matter transportation... and no one cares! The single biggest technological and scientific breakthrough of, like, ever, and no one gives a shit!

Then you have the fact that the bad guy is ousted at the end by a dot matrix print out that could be from anywhere...

Gah!

It's problems are manifold. But I let it off for the visuals which are still nice.

We've had to wait a year, but you can now official see online what fans saw at the San Diego Comic-Con in 2008... The Tron Legacy Grid VFX Concept Test. And it's HERE in High Definition formats and Flash!

Opening in November or December of 2010, the Joseph Kosinski-directed film stars Garrett Hedlund, Jeff Bridges, Bruce Boxleitner, Olivia Wilde and Beau Garrett.

Tron Legacy is a 3D high-tech adventure set in a digital world that's unlike anything ever captured on the big screen. Sam Flynn (Hedlund), the tech-savvy 27-year-old son of Kevin Flynn (Bridges), looks into his father's disappearance and finds himself pulled into the same world of fierce programs and gladiatorial games where his father has been living for 25 years. Along with Kevin's loyal confidant (Olivia Wilde), father and son embark on a life-and-death journey across a visually-stunning cyber universe that has become far more advanced and exceedingly dangerous.
