Geometry Wars 2

Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 is a solid sequel. Three of the six modes are great fun, with the other three being at least serviceable. But this is a game and a series that is showing its age. These modes are little more than rules alterations to the same thing we've been playing for years (yes, even before there was an Xbox 360). With so many great 2D shooters out or on the horizon, it's time for Bizarre to step up its game and take Geometry Wars to the next level.

Where are the great 2d shooters on the horizon?

Is Super Stardust HD's endless mode, as great as it is, not just another (tiny) rules change? Aren't both games just slight rules changes to Robotron? Does the author know what he's talking about?

Wow. Loving this.

Don't give a toss about the lack of online (as explained earlier in the thread it wouldn't work anyhow) the score leaderboard is all you need in terms of online features

There is something odd about the Pacifism mode, I'm rubbish at it (well more rubbish than some of the normal shooty modes) but I couldn't f**king stop playing it. Amazingly compelling, it was about 1 the morning before I gave up, on work night.

Already some mental scores at the top of the leaderboards. I'm probably going to try and add some of you guys from this thread to my friends list. Feel free to do the same. I'm pretty crap so it'll make your score look aces.

There's nothing wrong at all with the lighting, there's no way at all it makes "high-level pl,ay impossible". Subconscious colour-coded target recognition is still present and correct. Deadline mode is totally awesome and feels like the natural step onwards from Retro Evolved 1, despite it (and the rest of the modes to be honest) missing the depth that Galaxies glimpsed at.

I’ve only touched Deadline and King modes so far, and I’d say I’ve had 800 points worth of entertainment already - Deadline is great, and King finishes so quickly (for me anyway) that ‘just one more go’ suddenly turns into a million more goes. This is going to keep me going for ages, if only to get my scores up to something vaguely respectable.

(If anyone wants to add me to feel better about their own scores, by the way, my tag’s tmpagg)

This is much, much better than retro evolved. Pacifism in particular is amazing. My only criticism would be that the explosions obscure things a bit too much and the collision detection seems very unforgiving. Perhaps I'm just getting old and shit at these sort of games.

EXACTLY the same as me. Got my high score on my last go as well - 11 mill odd. Got the 5 gates/5 sec achiev. on my 'quick' go this morning. Not happy mind as it threw me off my stroke and my 9 mill score got thrown away - it looked odd's on to beat my high score as well. I can see that baby falling later today tho.....

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm......I've felt that a couple of times. When racing to a gate sometimes the game seems to favour the baddies a little too much imo.

But maybe I'm just old as well..............

Will log on in a sec to xbox.com and add some of you guys. I'm top of my leaderboard on pacifism so need some new blood !!! *Throws gaunlet down to rest of friends list*

Fixed.

What was fixed about it ?

I'm awful at Waves. Awful. I'm not very good at the game anyway, but being top of my friends list at King last night (while sucking everywhere else) was an air punching moment.

It put me 1020th-ish in the world, not quite the top 1000...and yea so it sucks but I was happy with that.

Petrol I agree; at times theres to much explosionary action going on and you can't see where you're going. My tip - don't shoot things! :o

There is some dude in the online thread of this game that has something like 120 million in pacifism :o

EDIT- No, I'm wrong!.....its 154 million

Pacifism - annoys me. I can't do it. I suck at it mahoosively.

Also what's the quickest way to view, on the internet not on live, the vs scores? On the official xbox live website I can only compare vs one friend at a time. Can I select a game and have comparisons!

The IGN reviewer is colour-blind:

Multipliers are no longer earned just by killing enemies. Instead, when you destroy an enemy, it leaves behind tiny green orbs.

Yellow shards called Geoms, you idiot.

And can't count:

(Deadline) plays like Evolved, only you have a five minute timer.

And his last paragraph is all kinds of dogshit.

Any tips for Treaty, guys? If I just buzz the zones to activate and whizz about the screen, by the time I've hit 24/25 the enemies are quicker than me and I can't reach the next zone. If I try and wait in each zone, by the time I've got 20 or so the enemies surround the zone and I can't escape at all. It's proving very tiresome.

Keep moving in a circular motion around the screen, the quicker you activate a zone (turns green) the quicker a new one will spawn. DO NOT STOP MOVING!

If you manage to get the enemies following in a big bunch you can use zones that you zip through to block them and slow them a little.

Got to within 95% of the Wax Off achievement :o

Oh, and those green weapon dodging enemies are right bastards.

On my play that got me the achieve it was crazy - the last segment I had to do a full death-dive to hit it as I was headed off by a enemy - as I blew up I got the achieve.

Crazy fun and VERY satisfying. I love the way the challenges are implemented in this one
