Batman: Arkham Asylum

Am I the only one who enjoyed this, just not enough to call it GOTY? It was a finely made game with an awesome combat system, some fun stealth moments, and you truly felt like Batman playing it. However, I felt that after I beat it I just couldn't go through it again. It was a fun game and I love Batman more than anything (Except maybe Mario), but I feel as if I won't go back to play this for a while.

Yah, first time through I got 100%. The second time - rinsed the story on hard. In between I did all the '3 batarang' predator/fighting challenges.

Then I'd had enough and traded it

Really good solid game, and so very well made, but not something to return to.

This bloody game completely freaked me out last time I played it.

At about 40% in...

the graphics glitched and froze, sound went funny and the game's intro credits started rolling again. I thought I was going to have to send the 360 off again for a repair! Eventually it fell into place when Batman/Joker swapped places

Slags.

Did you use the middle stick to dodge?

I think Uncharted 2 is better, but I loved this game enough to 100% it. Unless Modern Warfare 2 and Gay Tony are completely awesome, this will probably be my second favorite game of the year.

Playing this last night having only just got my 360 back from being repaired, imagine my horror when on my way to Killer Croc's lair,

my screen goes all glitchy along with the sound.

I'm about to launch my controller across the room and scream any number of profanities about Microsoft. Not to worry though,

it's just another visit from scarecrow.

Phew!

This game was TOTALLY AWESOME

The pacing, the mood, the polish, the combat, the stealth that was actually fun, the cutscenes, the faithfulness to the world of Batman, the biogs and interview tapes, collecting the riddler stuff, the gadgets, the cutscenes...just everything was done to an exceptionally high standard. Even stuff that usually bores me, like collectables and stealth, I enjoyed in this game. I'd totally agree with the earlier assessment that it's like this gen's Resi 4. It's not doing anything absolutely new, but it's doing old stuff with such panache and polish that it appeals to people that wouldn't usually play a game of this type. And if you're a Batfan already...it's Heaven. I'm fuming it's over! Roll on the sequel.

I'm just going through the thread now, and I presume this has been posted, but here's Arkham's website, it was read out over the PA at one point as part of an ad for the place. A really nice touch:

I actually re-started my machine three times at that bit-

even took the disc out, gave it a wipe etc. Was going to install to hard-drive and just play it off that but gave it one more try and realised what was going on... A nasty and cruel trick to play on 360 owners :D

This is so, so good! I'm a real sucker for games that have been made with this kind of love and attention to detail.

I was just punching my way through the medical lab while my friend sat in the same room on the laptop. He overheard one of the Arkham videos on the monitors mention a website, popped it into the browser and there it is. http://arkhamcare.com/prices/

Excellent.

  • 3 weeks later...

Stuck already

I'm in the room with the gas, locating & rescuing Dr. Kellerman in the Medical Facility. I've used my Batarang on the extractor control panel, and one of the fans is now working. But now I'm stuck :(

What do I do now? I can't use RB to swing around the room, and there is a panic button on that control panel?

Yeah I've kept hold of this for a reason I think.

I don't know when it will be,but even though I've finished the game it's just begging for me to revisit it.

I didn't play it at launch but picked it up later, and then only played it in to the run up to MW2.

Even though I took my time I still felt like I rushed through this,so many subtle nuances in the combat that felt I'd missed, the atmosphere that was there to be soaked up,I only drank a little bit.

It is a sign of the times though, that once a game of this quality would last you months, now be used as a stop gap to another game!

I completed this the other day. Completely brilliant in so many respects. Only complaint was that it was over too soon, and that the final boss was a massive anticlimax. I mean I can see why they did it, since fighting goons is the most entertaining and well done part of the game, and it's really fun to batter about 20 of them about, but I wanted to actually punch joker in the face a bit.

I guess I'll go back and complete the challenges and 100% it now.

Same for me, just completed too. Brilliant game, only had it a couple of weeks but I've done a run through and got all the collectibles in that. I thought I'd like to make a run through on hard straight away, but rather like Dead Rising (also finished recently) as soon as I think of it it seems like a bad idea. The story was where it really was at and I've seen all that, bumping it up to hard is only going to make a couple of the harder battles more irritating, I'd assume. Started going through the challenges but they're well named, I thought I had the fighting down to a tee but some of the challenges are just so hard as to be plain frustrating to the point where I can't be arsed - the battle one with the timer and the electric guys is an absolute twat to do vaguely well on. It also highlights some deficiencies in the fighting mechanism, sometimes I can aim an attack and fly halfway across the area to make the hit, sometimes it just decides I can't which is an utter pain when trying for a "gold". Sometimes you get hit my someone attacking with a pipe mid combo who you never saw was attacking because they were off screen, etc. It just gets annoying. A short lasting dose of the finest drugs probably sums it up best.

The distance you can 'pounce' is based on your combo level — if memory serves anything over 10x and you can pretty much fly anywhere — also you can always chuck a Batarang to keep things going.

As for the camera I can't really comment. I never had any issue with it but then I played the game on PS3 which apparently has a slightly different perspective.
