Batman: Arkham Asylum

Went back to it at lunch. I quit out the other night on the medical wing after clearing a room of gas. I hadn't spoken to Cash, but it did show the save icon. Started it up and it put me at the checkpoint at the start of that scenario, so I had to do it again. That's gonna get annoying, it seems like I have to get to the start of the next scenario/encounter to trigger a checkpoint rather than get to the end of the current one. Maybe. Will try more.

Had a go on a challenge room. Very hard, top score of just over 2000

Doubtless this has been answered already but the thread's too big to check through efficiently: can I go back and mop up Riddler's Challenges after completing the main game or will I need to do them all before advancing to what feels like the last part of the story?

I'm pretty sure the general rule of thumb is that the game saves everytime you enter a room (and after any significant cutscenes or events).

Finished the main game on normal today and have loved every second of it. Will be dipping back in from time to time to play the challenges, etc. and am also tempted to pick up the guide so I can 100% the Riddler trophies and other bits and pieces.

I finished the main story yesterday and have started to mop up the Riddler trophies. I do like guides as a 'souvenir' of a great game but in this case I'd say there's a lot more satisfaction to be gained from finding the trophies yourself. Once you find the secrets map for each area, it's not that hard to collect them all. I've had a few head-scratching moments but a bit of thought around weapons, use of detective mode and a lot of looking around has sorted most of them. In fact the hardest ones have been tracking down the last few chattering teeth in some of the bigger areas. I'm at about 75% now, still a few hours left to put in.

Like Dandy Sephy, I can't see myself persisting with the challenges though, I don't find endless combo driven fighting particulalry rewarding and haven't the patience to tackle the stealthy ones.

Overall a great game, have really enjoyed it and it's a steal now that it's sub £20 all over the place.

Got for this for Christmas.

To put it simply - Wow! - is all I can say. At the moment I can't fault a thing. Ended up playing for over 4 hours in one sitting which is rare for me, I usually only play other games for about half an hour before losing my attention. Will be getting the sequel without a doubt. (unless its shit)

Just finished the battle with Ivy and I must say I'm majorly loving this game. I'm heading towards the next bit with real dread that I might be nearing the very end of the game.

Yes, some things do get repetitive (jeez, how many times do you come up against one of those big Bane-like bad guys?!), but it's just so fun and with plenty of polish to boot. I'd love to know what ideas they have up their sleeves for the second game. I can only imagine they have a few ideas they didn't get round to putting in this game, as you would've thought taking the sequel away from the Arkham Asylum setting would be the natural step.

Still, whatever they do, I'll be first in line to get it. They got the balancing on the secrets/collectables just right too imo. Top stuff!

fucking HELL this game is toight!

last night I did the scarecrow and bane.

scarecrow was amazing, didn't even consider it a boss fight, because of the build-up into "it", with THAT bit in the you know where...

bane was a lot more traditional as EOL bosses go, with it's rinse-and-repeat gameplay

BOTH reminded me of Crash Bandicoot.

but not in a BAD way, obv.

11% complete.

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm starting to enjoy this a bit more now, but for the first few hours I wasn't at all. Now that I have a few more upgrades I'm able to approach situations a bit more tactically but there's just some things that erk me a bit. Case in point; why doesn't my explosive gel knock enemies out cold? Perhaps I'm doing it wrong but I'll lay a trap, wait for the goons to come along and then, POW, let them have the explosive, but I still have to get in amongst them and finish them off with a punch to the face before they're no longer a threat.

I'm also a bit crap with the combat, but I think it's because I haven't mastered countering yet. I can do it, but I'm only managing combo strings of 7 to 8 blows at the moment. Any tips?

If you can use the explosive gel to knock enemies against walls or off ledges, they'll be knocked out cold. Similarly if some masonry collapses on them or the like. Try setting some at the top of a ladder for hilarity.

With combat, it'll get much more fluid and much easier once you get more skills like the instant takedown and start to use your batarang and dodging a lot to give yourself breathing room.

Wahoo! Finished it just now! What a fucking awesome game! Just my kind of thing - short, stress-free and stylish! This is virtually a perfect game. All I can fault it on is the acting in the in-engine conversation scenes being a bit wooden and the end coming a bit suddenly. That's probably just a by-product of it being such a good game though. I could've easily had en extra hour between the boss fights.

I'm not a Batman/comics fan so I really wasn't expecting to like this at all. I'm so glad it proved me wrong!

just reached my second scarecrow bit. 19%

I say "reached" I heard some coughing, went through a door, and the screen said

"wayne manor"

then I noticed a vent (I'd previously been in) had disappeared, my batrope didn't work, and I couldn't go back through the door I'd just come in.

I turned it off.

Hey, look at me, I'm an 8 year old Boo Swain!

Oh, the 2nd scarecrow bit's similar to the first, would have like to have seen more variation.

Reminds me of the 1st level of Infogrammes Hostages.

Anyhoo, Harley, um yeah... in the cells, what exactly was I doing there?

Onwards and upwards.

Spoilers Sean. I'm quite far in now and really enjoying it. It's quite old fashioned gameplay wise but so polished, and so much love. It controls better than any other 3rd person action game, well, up there with Uncharted 2 anyway. Best use of the Unreal engine since Bioshock too.

Amazon are selling this on PS3 for 18 quid. Time for me to make a move. I love it when ace games get cheap.

It's worth spending a few pound more on the 360 version of the game...If it is any more expensive.

I played up to the first

Scarecrow

section on the PS3 version that was bundled with my Slim.

Ps3 version is severly lacking. No AA, tearing all over the shop.

If you have the option; seriously, get the 360 version.

Aye, I've not been back to Splinter Cell for a while now... :quote:

I didn't notice tearing on my PS3 version.

Maybe you have shit eyes? Or did play the game till any of the

Scarecrow

sections, were the PS3 shits itself.

Just moving the camera around results in constant frame tearing. The 360 version keeps a consistant 30 frames pretty much all of the the time.

..and looks a hell of lot better.

I adore the game, and played it first on the 360.

After recieveing the PS3 version in a Bundle deal with my Slim, I though it was a great excuse to play through the game a second time.

After not long, I really could not stomach it, and it got promptly sold.
