Batman: Arkham Asylum

Having seen the remaster (hmmm not convinces) and assuming the originals wont get BC on Xbox One what are the PC versions like in terms of performance/ports etc? Any good? I might pick them up cheap instead.

I only ask as I seemt o recall complaints about Origins and Arkham Knight on PC but wondered if Asylum and City were similarly derided

Asylum & City are fine, they removed GFWL from them on Steam. The only trouble I had with Origins was the infamous 'Burnley Comms Tower' game breaker which required some illogical thinking to beat it. I'd suggest looking up to see if they fixed it now though. Knights was a mess for most but I managed to make it through without many major issues (paying £18 for the game + season pass on release helped my pragmatism too) but I believe its fixed as much as they're going to now. You can get all of the PC versions for less than £30 if you look around or probably cheaper if you wait for the Steam summer sale.

*edit* CDKeys have them all in stock for Steam http://www.cdkeys.com/?q=batman

Get them all for £23.63 if you 'like' CDKeys to get 5% off via their FB page. However, Origins doesn't come with the season pass for the DLC.

Trailer for the Remaster comparing the graphics to the originals..

The move from custom UE3 to UE4 seems to have caused several unfortunate changes.. The character detail seems reduced due to the different lighting and you also lose some of the fog effects that were nice and atmospheric too.. :(

Interesting, but I think a better comparison would be between the PS4/X1 remasters and the PS3/360 originals, rather than versus running them on a maxxed-out PC.

This is mad, if you'd told me the original was the remastered version I would've believed you. Almost every single comparison is worse. Who'd they give this to, the PC port team?

It can run at 120fps for all I care. I'm not fucking buying that bullshit.

I wont be buying it either way, but at least it would go some way to explain why it looks worse than a 360 game despite being on a new engine.

@MDY got a link to the Gaf thread? Can't seem to find it.

So the current Warner Bros port fuck up count is:

Arkham Knight

Mortal Kombat X

Arkham Origins

Return to Arkham

It's impressive in the same sort of way missing an open goal from 2 yards out is.

I'd think the primary reason they stuck with UE3 was because the project started before UE4 was ready and before the new consoles were announced. That's no longer the case, might as well move to the newer, actually supported on current consoles version of Unreal Engine, and take advantage of the improvements UE4 has, they had to heavily modify UE3 for their needs as it was.

Why don't people wait until the game is out or somebody reveals why the artistic changes were made before getting out the pitchforks and jumping to conclusions. You'd think it'd be easier to do a barebones replica rather than employing people to spend time reworking art if they wanted a cheap revenue addition so there must be a reason for it all, we just currently have no idea why the changes were made.

The dev in question has shown they are technically competent enough to sympathetically port old games to new platforms without giving them a drastic make-over in the process.

I think people are jumping to the conclusion "it looks shit" because it looks shit.

  • 1 month later...

Think this is the best place for re-release talk

It's been delayed (no new window) 1 month before release

After reviewing the progress of the project, the team at WB Games has decided to delay the release of Batman: Return to Arkham to give the team at Virtuous Games additional time to deliver a polished Batman Arkham game experience.

We do not have a release date yet and will be sure to communicate that once we are sure the game will be ready.

We know this is disappointing news, but we feel the extra time will allow the team to create the best gaming experience for our fans.
