A thought..

it would be ( moderately ) Okay if you were all in Party mode. Yes?

as you will still be talking to each other, flip back into online roaming and meet back up...

or something!

Nope - me and Dave tried it. You come out of the race, you are both in the same spot on the map, just in separate game worlds. You can't meet up again, annoyingly.

Although at one point we went to a new zone, and Dave's bike was perched on top of my head when we spawned. I tried to get a picture but he moved before I could.

I haven't had a single crash in nearly 20 hours of gameplay. The game has its problems but I haven't found anything related to bugs or crashes. Could it be your xbox at all ?

As for the game I'm just loving it more and more, it's been a bit of slow start but it's one of the finest racing games I've played in ages. Absolutely love it.

I've driven 900 miles now without a single crash... I probably shouldn't have said that.

I also love it. I even put it on for five minutes before work and went got a livery Doppler truck. I love that you can play for hours or minutes, it's not one of those games you have set aside a certain amount of time to play.

Just started playing and was told I'd just found a new livery. I had to crash into the wreck nearby to unlock it, but there were four in the vicinity and I've crashed into them all, but don't seem to have unlocked anything. Is there any way of knowing which wreck I'm to crash in to and how hard? Also, will I get a message informing me when I've been successful?

A message will come on the screen when you get a livery. It's the big glowing blue beacon on your screen and blue dot on your mini map. You don't need to own the vehicle to collect the livery - but you do to use it, obviously.

Played lots more last night, and the more I play the more it is beginning to frustrate. I think I'm getting near the point of putting it down.

There are just so many little niggles (my latest one being the lack of instant look back button!), the difficulty is far too harsh (as the qualifying criteria is 1st or you get nothing), and reload times for restarting a failed race just aren't acceptable. Free-ride is only thing keeping my playing at the moment, but the environment needs more landmarks and unique locations as its beginning to get a little repetitive (unlocked the first 5 areas).

Think I'll give online a shot before I call it quits though.

That will be the final nail in the coffin Rushy. Trying to play this with friends and in a party, should be made a text-book example of how an online multiplayer should not be made. The lack of logic beggars belief.

I have stuttered with this all week, having little blasts here and there, and for what it does right there are just too many wrongs, and really bad ones.

It's gone to far for me and I am just annoyed and disappointed beyond being inspired to even bother with it.

<_<

rented it, not really impressed but it's ok, would feel pissed if i paid £40 for it, or even any more than a tenner

Same here, currently have it on rental from Lovefilm. It's an ok game, just a bit too average I suppose. I'll be sending it back pretty quickly. It just doesn't excite me much.

I can't think of a single game-breaking bug. Any examples?

Checkpoints not registering. I've got a finish line in a later career race that doesn't register you crossing the line unless you go through the little beam of light in the middle.

Then there's the general instability. I've only had one crash but that's one too many.

I've played the game a lot now and haven't experienced anything like that at all, unlike Fallout 3 which crashed on me a few times. But with worlds this huge I just accept that it might well happen. Not a deal breaker for me by any means.

Do you not think labeling one crash as "general instability" is a bit over the top?

Had been off this for a week or so, due to work and Big Surf Island. Popped it back in last night to give it a try. I think in my head I'd minimised how bad the load times were, but the reality was much worse. Endless hassle getting into online races (either the game told me there were none, or it put me in one then booted me out - took about 5 minutes to get a race to start). Also, this is unforgivable :

"Race will start in 5...4...3...2...1..." - followed by 25 seconds of Loading. Or "You will be taken back to Freeride in 5...4...3...2...1" and the same again.

Did a tornado race in Drownington Cove. Felt incredibly sluggish, and also reminded me of how much I hate the way a random nudge (or gust from a tornado) can mean you pass 6 inches outside the checkpoint gate itself, requiring you to stop (which takes ages in the crappy vehicle you get in that race), turn around (see previous), and go back through the gate properlyfor it to actually register. The checkpoints should be zones, like in Midnight Club:LA.

Anyway, I've had enough of this and it's going on Goozex while it's still worth a few points. I'm so gutted as, if I'm honest, I think this was my most anticipated game of 2009 so far. :)

God, I hate physical checkpoints that you either crash into, or just slide on the outside of. They should be banned outright, especially in a game like this.

You're absolutely right. I mean, even if they just sort of "hovered" over the ground, so you couldn't clip the post and end up having to piss around for 20 seconds trying to get yourself through it. It's so annoying.
