True, I like that he's embraced being the heel and made it work for him (as opposed to Woodley, the Kanye West of MMA).

Same re Rumble, pretty gutted he went out with a whimper. Hope his next move gives him what he needs, seems a classy fella.

Re: Rumble quitting, i think he went to the clinch aftet busting DCs nose in the hope itd end the way it did. That way he can quit and say "no point being here if i cant beat the Champ" whereas if he won the fight itd be so much harder to walk away. I wonder what he'll be doing?

Cote vs Alvez was a great fight, im nore disappointed about Cotè retiring than Johnson :( Nice standing choke by Oliveira.

Mosasi v Weidman was bizarre, even though he got some takedowns Gegard defended so well, especially the Darce/guilotine attempt. After he relaxed, his striking began to take over. I despised the fingertips down rule and im glad its changed. I think Mousasi wouldve won in the end but it was a dumb situation, just continue the fight.

no doubt in my mind the Weidman thought he could stay sat on his arse and get a DQ win there - I think Mousasi called that spot on and loved Rogan calling him out in the interview afterwards saying they were legal knees.

Weidman still moaning in press conferences saying he'd been told illegal knees and will appeal.

See what I mean about him, he's a jock dickhead when he's winning, and a bitching moaner when he's losing. No class whatsoever.

Oh and his fight IQ stinks, using the downed hand/finger trick in New York was moronic.

While not too fussed about Weidman, he had been told illegal knees, so was entitled to the recovery period, no matter how much he milked it. After that point, it seemed like in the confusion Dan Miragliotta to reverse his decision when prompted by the NYSAC / doctors. You can see why Weidman was upset because the fight should have continued after the five minutes were up but as others have said he didn't help himself by not looking ready to continue.

What's stupid is the fact the right decision happened by accident. Actually, not stupid, it undermines the UFC. I don't imagine they'll be in a hurry to book New York again, at least until they can square with the NYSAC and get unified rules. After De Randamie not getting docked a point Vs Holm and now this, it makes what is generally a very good sport look shabby at a time when it really doesn't need bad publicity.

Ive no complaint with him using the 5 mins, but the strikes were legal. I can see why he'd be upset but he was pulling that shitty trick of touching his fingertips on the canvas, he deserved all he got. If he defended properly instead of pulling that shit, basically trying to con Moose into an illegal strike, he'd have been fine.

That's Weidman though, why he's such a weeny, nothing is ever his fault. He was happy to claim a checked leg kick was his brilliant tactic against Anderson, but bleats like a little baby when he threw away his last 3 fights. He was doing ok against Rockhold until he tried some stupid spinning shit, he got lazy against Romero, and he tried to scam Moose after actually being in front in the fight. On top of that, his entire schtick is utterly lame, the cornball flag waving, "join the team" and so on.  He's shit, the sooner he's gone the better.

Weidman was so out of it in the after fight interview I'd have fancied my chances putting him away. He was fucked and the shambles saved him from getting ko'd.

Rumble retiring was a huge surprise and you have to admire him for it. Then again, deciding to clinch with DC was the height of stupidity so perhaps his mind isn't in the fight game anymore. Still, he's a loss to the UFC.

Villain DC is cool. He should just troll everyone as they'll never respect him. I'd like to see Jones have a tune up fight before DC. Let them go toe to toe with no question marks over ring rust.

JJ not having a tune up is DCs only chance to win, but heel DC is also setting up fights he think he can win, like a dry hump of Manuwa that noone wants to see. If thats a main event I'll switch off before it starts.  Dana doesnt trust JJ to main though so what will happen is JJ vs tuneup co main, DC versus Manuwa main, so they can swap them around if someone fucks up.

Thinking back, Mousasi's demeanour in the fight was really odd. Like he'd complete disdain for Weidman. As if he was just waiting for an opportunity to kick off a barn burner that he knew he had no chance of losing. He's usually quite a technically accomplished fighter but if felt like he just wanted to throw down and presumably go out of the UFC after destroying one of their stars. He's got quite the bargaining chip now in free agency.

Fair point about the fingertips, he got caught out there and deservedly so. Right result in a very strange way.

Moose is the more exciting fighter, shame he's now log-jammed in a likely rematch, would have liked to see him face Rockhold or one of the other top 4.

I said that to my brother, did Weidman say he couldnt continue to the medic thinking he'd win since it was due to an illegal strike? Then when it was ruled legal, after he said he wasnt able to fight, it was called a tko?

Maybe im being out-of-order but i feel a bit conned by Rumble. I didnt bet on it, but him and a few people knowing its his last fight wouldve changed the betting i think and it undoubtable played a part in his  in-fight mentality. Its possible im in shock or something but i cant help feeling let down by his performance.

Yeah, this.  He was playing the game so many fighters do when it's an illegal shot and playing up how hurt they are.

Weidman looked so one dimensional. Punch, shoot, punch, shoot. Moose was much more accurate; every shot seemed to hurt weidman. A rematch would result in Weidman losing 4 in a row after losing the belt. Even Hendricks beat won one after the title loss!

DC... I don't even know. The light heavyweight division is just a mess. The match making has pretty much ruined everything. Glovers out the picture, Gus got a titleshot after a loss, rumbles gone, jones is fucked up, jimi manuwa lost to guss and rumble. Weak.

He'll be back at some point. Lost count of the amount of fighters who've walked away only to comeback a year later.

Henri Hooft seemed to put a lot of time and effort into Rumble and he just quit in the fight. Again. So id be pissed off to.

I was watching the post fight show and Kenny iirc said Weidman told the ref he couldnt continue as he was "injured"

Real farce. DC is ducking the Jones fight by calling out Jimmy Manuwa, SO weak from him. You could tell from his voice he didn't want it.

Did you see how much weight rumble was throwing behind his punches and kicks? He lost his composure. But so much respect for him, really classy dude. Choked me up in the speech.

Moussasi is such a BAD man, during the post fight interview he just stodd there like a boss. Weidman snoring on, they shouldn't allow fighters to speak on a mic after getting hit in the head. Embarrassing.

Best fight was probably the ladies on the main card. Carvillo looked very impressive (again)

Carvillo was impressive but shes already quite annoying, she's only been there a month and she talks about the UFC as "we" not them and just generally reeks of TAM attitude. She'll probably be fasttracked to fighting Joanna by this time next year and get destroyed.

Mousasi's complaining about not getting enough pay, and Dana's responding by telling him that he's not 'selling out arenas'.

I don't know why Dana is afraid of sounding a like a civil, sympathetic human in these discussions. But then 'Dana is an anti-fighter bellend' is hardly news.

Whether it's in UFC or elsewhere, I hope Mousasi gets himself paid.

I just realised that Johnson's been RNC'd at a third successive weight class now. Man, if he ever comes back, I hope he gets that one worked out.

Dana always goes on the mega defence when fighter pay comes up. Its obvious there has always been something wrong. Its pathetic really when he has made $300 million just from being the Fertittas friend and thats all earned of the backs of fighters.

I'll be happy when he is gone tbh.

Defending chokes is almost the first thing learned and its not very difficult so i dont know how he managed to get where he did and look like he doesnt know what to do

Dana always seems to forget he's the promoter.

Thing is, the UFC name alone 'sells out arenas' due to their reputation. But if they keep letting top 5 guys go, the cards will get less attractive and that goodwill will slip away. Absolutely cannot stand Dana.

Apparently Jacare is also a free agent after Sunday. The UFC MW division could conceivably be in tatters in a month's time.
