You need guys like Might Mouse to give the belts some meaning. Same with Aldo, Faber, Cruz. The rest of the weight classes are lacking in this area. I don't think anyone has defended the heavyweight belt more than 2 times in a row without getting beat since it's inception.

They just showed Rizin on the telly here in Japan. There was one fighter who looks amazing but the level of competition in Rizin seems to be all over the place so a bit difficult to tell. A young kickboxer whose highlight reel was mental though, with that a mix of precision and power from slightly unorthodox angles that reminded me of McGregor and Hamed. But this was his only his second fight under MMA rules, against some nomark from Italy who he put down with about his second contact, so dunno how he would fare against proper competition.

Heavyweights always beat each other regularly purely because one shot can end it.   Was pleased for Rose last night, I dont mind Waterson but she was talking some crap beforehand about being all-round better, yet she's only had 2 UFC fights. I still think Jedrezczyk destroys either of them though.

He's got to rematch Cruz or the winner of Garbrandt/Dillashaw. I know he wants to get 11 title defences but who is going to fight? Tim Elliot again, hes the only guy who really pushed him and aparently he wasnt 100% in that fight.

 

Dunno whats gonna happen with Big Cuntree, he's so 1D and its not even working anymore.

 

Im looking forward to Swanson vs Lobov next week, hope Cub can avoid the big shots and get the win. Apparently Lobov wants a boxing match with Amir Khan and reckons he'd win easily

I really dunno why Johnson would take on Cruz at this point in his career. Dominick Cruz shouldn't get to fight Mighty Mouse, and he shouldn't risk his place in Bantaweight to take it. Seems stupid to me.

Its DJs only loss, to Cruz, so it was purely for revenge (itd be at 135lb) and a real challenge for him rather than another 125er no one knows.

Swanson Vs Lobov should be decent, his speed will kill Lobov.

 

Seeing some similarities between Swanson and McGregor. The kid's movement is really fucking good, hope his age doesn't start to become a thing - he'd probably look good at 155 if he wanted to go up.

Im a big fan of Cub, ive even got his signature mouthguard, he just loves to fight and his creativity mid-fight is, as he calls it "beautiful destruction".

Cruz is the Randy Couture of 135lbs. Great build up but boring grinding style. 

 

I think 135lbs sorts itself out as there's too much talent. 125lbs is just... not interesting. I can't get into it at all.

In the UFC, Brad Pickett beat him in WEC. 

 

I think Mouse should just stay at flyweight and set a mental title defence record. If a Cruz or Garbrandt want to move down then fight them there. Its his division and at only 30 he can add tons of defences to his record.

Catching up on Fight Night, man alive that was a fantastic performance by Whittaker. Love to see him and Moose square off soon.

 

Excited for TUF, and the pay off is a heck of a title match for the finale. Good run of UFC events upcoming, plus Semtex v MacDonald in Bellator in a few weeks.

Amazing performance by Whittaker, to beat Jacare would be impressive, to do so in such a dominant and rounded manner and come away without a scratch on you is even more impressive.

 

Its just so hard to go on a long unbeaten run in MMA, the mechanics of the fights are so much wider and more varied than boxing, coming up with a style that can shut down and beat every opponent type is almost impossible. Not starting a 'what is better' conversation (or who is fitter, tougher etc) - its just that MMA has so much more going on technique wise, you'll never see a fighter getting to 20-0 

 

I'm still not a fan of watching DJ but have to respect his total dominance of a division, a feat only matched by few fighters (peak Anderson Silva, Jon Jones and GSP)

Anyway haven't watched the prelims yet, didn't realise Duquesnoy was making his debut. Will have to catch up with that later, looking forward to seeing how he gets on in the UFC.

Prelims are well worth watching, bar the Green/Magomedov fight. Duquesnoy was pretty exciting, takes a few too many hits but he's young still.

 

Speaking of young, John Jones will breeze past the all time wins/title wins record assuming he can square himself away outside the ring

I concur. He's inventive with incredible speed. The way he slips away is reminiscent of Floyd Mayweather as well. The way he bamboozles his opponents is always amusing.

 

I watch his Twitch channel a bit. He's certainly very much a hardcore gamer so perhaps I'll suggest he sign up at RLLMUK in his chatroom.

It's a weird one I can't quite put my finger on, I enjoy watching TJ Dillishaw, Cruz, Garbrant so I don't think I'm a total meathead on the search for endless blood and 1 punch KOs - there is just something so pitter patter about DJ (yes I know I wouldn't want to get hit in the face with them) but even his elbows from the top seemed to have nothing behind them.

 

I know he's highly skilled, but whenever he's fighting I find myself drifting away from the tv and surfing or doing something else, which I hardly ever do during the big events.

 

I'm not alone, even the UFC have given up trying to have him headline PPVs

Im kinda with you to, his skills are phenomenal, but its the whole division not just Demetrious i struggle with watching. I generally enjoy BW/FW/LW the most in MMA which is why i loved WEC so much but i just cant quite get into 125lb, id rather watch women 105lb/115lb.

Doing some admin bits for work and happened on the current UFC Pound-for-Pound rankings... even as a fan of his mystified how McGregor is #2 without a single title defence.

 

Can't argue DJ at #1, think Joanna Jedrzejczyk should be close to the top 3, certainly top 5 (she's #7).

 

Anyway, rankings are usually always going to be subjective but just curious as to the metrics behind them.

Aren't the UFC rankings voted on by a panel of journos and "inside experts" and then put thru a diary to see who has a big PPV coming up so needs a little bump ?

That's the one issue I have with McGregor, he hasn't defended any belts yet. I'll be surprised now if he ends up defending the Lightweight belt at all. There's no doubt DJ is pound for pound and Jon Jones is up there too

Never understood the appeal of p4p rankings. It's a made-up, what-if relic of a metric from when little guys got paid loads less than the big guys. Now the most famous fighter on the planet is 155lb, rendering the whole thing a bit pointless.
