Just catching up on the prelims. What a shitshow the Alvarez/Poirier decision was. New rules or not, both Eddie and Herb should know better. Fucking no contest my arse, there was no way that was accidental.

Shame as it was a great fight until then.

That 2nd round was incredible. Inclined to believe Alvarez when he says he didn't know what he was doing, simply because his head was scrambled from earlier in the round. At the same time, can't blame Poirier for being pissed off, credit to him for telling the crowd to pipe down and taking the sting out of the situation in the post-fight interviews.

I read something that suggested that Texas hasn't adopted the new Unified ruleset yet, so the fighters were confused about what was and was not legal.

The twitter posts by fighters on Bloody Elbow seem to corroborate that, but it's definitely on  the UFC to make sure that everyone is educated appropriately. They're surprisingly bush-league at times.

Anik did announce that Texas hadn't adopted the new rules but can't remember if he did so during the prelims or main card. It's still stupid though, and undermines having rule changes in the first place. Certainly didn't help Poirier.

Today Woodley has been telling the media that Maia will have to wait behind GSP and Diaz for his shot.

And it's not on UFC.com. Because they're terrible at promoting.

They need to harness this heelish attitude, then make sure they sign the fight. It's actually a great storyline: flashy powerhouse wrestler who thinks he's better than he is, against a grafting veteran with humility and discipline.

Put Diaz and GSP on the co-main on the same card, then you set up two follow-on fights.

For those of you with Bellator series links, the London event is on Channel 5 rather than Spike for some reason this Friday. Also it's live!

Well up for Rory/Daley. Annoyed that Page dropped out again, Bellator are trying so hard to push him but he's a liability with injuries.

Finally caught up with UFC211 main card after watching the prelims on telly in Canada. The prelims were really good back and forth slugfests, really disappointed with poirier/Alvarez that was an amazing fight and it was ruined.

Joanna is just phenomenal, no ither words and bloody Stipe whom i always thought would be a nearly-man is turning into a wrecking ball, fantastic.

That's a great way to describe him. I always thought he'd challenge but never win the belt. His attitude is great too - I think this is maybe down to him working a normal job still; Stipe is still a fireman, Carwin was still an engineer while he won the interim belt. Nice seeing guys go to work get the belt - really puts into perspective just how much of a twat characters like Woodley are.

Anything about same-day weigh-ins? Seems to still be the obvious answer.

Question: If same-day weigh-ins meant a Super HW division was created for the guys who couldn't be 265 on the day, do you think it'd take the HW division's mantle as the 'top' division when it comes to badassery?

Or would people mostly just see it as sluggish, fat, Tim Sylvias?

I've not watched much Bellator but that was rubbish - its only 3 fights that I saw so won't judge the whole thing on it but they were all very amateurish and seemed second rate.

Some flabby heavyweight fell over going for a high kick, a snooze fest between a couple of light heavies then Rory getting a choke against Daley who had no clue how to defend his back or neck.

Thought MacDonald was excellent, did a number on Daley and came out of a fight against a dangerous striker with barely a scratch on him. Wasn't a spectacular fight but a perfectly executed win.

I enjoyed the prelims, which were on Spike, more than the main card.

Linton Vassell further exposed McGeary there. Even when he was champ, I didn't feel like he had anything to offer. He's supposed to be a grappling specialist, and he got fully controlled and then tapped.

Great performance by Rory. Anyone suggesting that a guy who has lost the two biggest fights of his career (and damaged his face severely) by 'standing and banging' probably needs to get their heads checked. He doesn't owe the crowd anything, and I hope he smashes the division before heading back to the UFC. Or staying and legitimising Bellator.

Rory Mac without a belt in his whole career, when it's been held by Woodley, Hendricks and Lawler, would be a tragedy.

Agree with all that.

Just listening to Unfiltered and hear Gastellum is fighting Weidman in Long Island, hope Kelvin wins.

What happens at this point if Weidman loses? nobody has ever fallen off this bad after losing a belt.

Go up to Light Heavy as he is a big guy and outside the top 3 or 4 that division is wide open ie kind of weak. Or take a few steps back at Middle. Let him destroy a CB Dollaway or Nate Marquardt and get his confidence back. The guys who he has lost to are Rockhold, Romero and Moose. Those are three of the best in the world and he was competitive with all of them and Kelvin is no slouch.

I think he beats Kelvin though tbh. It's a tough fight but I think he has the size and tools to win and get back on track.

Biggest dip after losing the belt? Chuck's career was brutal after Rampage ko'd him and took the title. Outside the one bright spot, the Wanderlai win. Lost by Dec to Keith fucking Jardine and KO'd 3 times into retirement..

Just watched a retrospective on Edgar v Maynard 2, what a bloody fight that was.

Back to the future, and i think Weidman probably would beat Gastellum. Itd have to be a takedown-then-hold-down scenario as Kelvin would be too quick on the feet i reckon. If he loses to the Big K then he has to go to LHW but Chris would probably try to make it to 170lbs such is his thinking. Just please lay iff the weed Kelvin!

Regarding drug tests, obv stuff like heroin is illegal, but what about prescription opiates? Or ADHD meds since Adderal is basically methamphetamine?(dextromethamphetamine iirc)

Apparently Garbrandt tore up his back a few months ago. Dana sent him to 'a guy he knows' in Germany to get it fixed with stem cells last week (Garbrandt's Instagram has a few pics fro the trip).

TJ has been stirring the pot on Twitter the past couple of weeks too. Dumb fun but more fuel for the fire.
