Brace yourself, switchboys!

I'm assuming it'll be switch related. Don't beat me up if it's not!

Tomorrow, we are planning to make a serious announcement.
Speaking of arcade games and shooting games, it's a place you can't miss ...

It will be announced around tomorrow evening.

New cotton game coming 23rd december. Cotton Rock n Roll.

Doesn't look as batshit as the cotton reboot arrange, which is a shame, looking forward to seeing it in action though. I'm assuming this is success (who handled the ports) doing this one rather than studio siesta who handled the arrange, so it might be a lot tamer.

There's a link there to reserve a physical copy with bits and bobs. I know some people here like that sort of thing.

Oh, it's coming to PC as well, but later on by the looks of it - https://cotton-rock-n-roll.success-corp.co.jp/

 "Superlative night dreams" I hope that's not just a mistranslation.

Brill, thanks for the heads-up.  Snapped up.

Any Raiden players have opinions on Raiden III?  There's a copy in my local, but it's pricey for a PS2 game.

I really like III, and the PS2 version is great, but yeah, it's a bit hard to justify forking out over £100 for it when there's a perfectly good PC version going for a quid on Steam.

III is very similar to the first two - all sniper tanks and fast patterns - so if you liked those you'll definitely get into it. It's quite a pared-down experience and adds none of the scoring wrinkles from DX, but it's probably my favourite of the lot.

It's about £50 (equivalent).

Thanks for that.  I'll probably grab it if the disk is in good condition then.  I don't much like gaming on my computer unless it's an RTS, in which case I prefer it.

Ooh, I'll have some of that. I think I've checked that before and just assumed it was a poo port when I saw the red thumbs, but reading the actual reviews, their only viable complaint seems to be that it's running at 640x480.

Mate, I've been happy as a pig in shit playing doujin games at half that resolution!

Thanks, Klatry, I'm usually stuck for something to buy in the steam sale, that'll do nicely.

Leaderboards probably if they are implying Mushi.

Or that there has been a mistake and it's being taken off Western stores for good, the classic Cave stuff really

Wouod also recommend Raiden 3. It’s a nice bridge between the style and mechanics of Raiden, 2 & DX and 4 and 5.

OT and a little cheeky, but let me know if you stumble across good condition copies if Contra 3 and Castievania IV in that there Japan and would be willing to ship. Been having trouble tracking these down from these shores in decent condition/for a decent price.

I'll have a look.  I don't live in Tokyo or Osaka, but there's one quite good shop for all things geeky in my city.

I've been playing the DonPachi series and a couple of other Cave shooters on MAME but i'm confused as fuck by the various 1.5 and/or Black Label versions. Should I be defaulting to them where available or are they just harder and am I just shooting myself in the foot?

not sure about the others but for dai ou jou the black label one is ever so slightly easier, there isn't much difference really, first loop anyway, not sure about after that.

edit - futari black label is easier too (well maniac and god are easier, not sure about original) , and think someone said deathsmiles black label is harder.

Black Labels are the special editions in a respect, and are somewhat "easier" though that's subjective as fuck because they're also 10x more mental.

Play whatever you enjoy etc. The Black Labels tend to have some weird/fun mechanics and cancellations etc and the white labels (normals) are more a standard dodging affair, generally.

Which DDP? DFK? BL is in some ways a bit easier; but selecting strong makes it "expert" unlike the original game, though i think you get autobomb. I forget, so I don't know why I wrote that, but the music is amaze.

They're generally "another mode" rather than a fix/improvement. Those would be the .01 and .5 increments, fixing score glitches and so on.

Black Labels are whole other beasts. Different weapons/scoring mechanics/enemy fire/bullet cancelling... etc etc.

Yeah generally speaking Black Label games are easier for people who are familiar with the game and can play at a reasonable level because of extra hypers etc., but if you go into it blind it can kick your head in on the first stage. Death Smiles MBL has a level 999 difficulty which is just fucking batshit and even Halloween Town mocks my skill level playing it.

This is some shite from looking at their feed. Some in-arcade appearance of some idols or whatever plus Ikeda. Hoped it would be DOJ and Futari announcement like in my fucking dream last night.

Not blaming you, just quoting! :D

Well, you never know, they might have Ikeda there to announce more switch ports.

Getting straight back on mushi after I teach espgaluda a lesson. I forgot how much fun it was!
Really enjoyed playing 1.5 normal max. It's so fast! Once you've got 1.5 down, it's just like playing it in fast forward!

1cc'ed that "Touhou Kikamu ~ Elegant Impermanence of Sakura" on normal today.

Not as fun as the blue devil game, I don't think, normal was a bit tame, but it's early doors. I'll try and do hard mode soon, I think the scoring will grow on me.

There are some little enemies you can only kill with your focus shot, and I think you have to leave them alive and then wait for them to come close to these bigger enemies which have an aura and once they're close, you shoot the little enemies and they drop bullets and then you kill the big enemies and all those bullets that were in the big enemies aura get turned into blue gems which are for score. Or I think you can just kill the big enemy and you won't get the points for the little enemies bullets, but it will get rid of them.

I think that's the general idea, so there's lots of time where you don't want to be shooting.

Some people were talking about milestone games in one of the discords so i downloaded the milestone shooting collection 2 for dolphin, gonna play some radirgy noa next, I think!

I really liked that game on the 360 and never really played it too much.

Yeah, it's canny! Just a boss rush thing, not sure how much replay value it'll have once you've beat everyone, but it's fun working out the breaks and beating your time and chains.

It got a hotfix today which includes the line.

"Fixed a problem that prevented you from getting 3 stars at level 8."

Hmmmm. My daffy brain wouldn't let me move on to the next boss before getting three stars the other day, so I wasted a good twenty minutes of my life playing tennis with an avocado!

Something the Assault Shell guy has been working on - https://streamable.com/e54rgz

I'm starting to think that he might be some sort of genius. He just threw this together seemingly overnight, he says stage 1 is already done!

Assault Shell is fucking aces by the way, don't sleep on that one. Currently 30% off. The void arrange mode is lots of fun - https://store.steampowered.com/app/1432970/ASSAULT_SHELL/

30-09! That's my birthday!

edit: somebody made this in one of the shmup discords if anyone can be bothered filling it in!

I'll make a text version so it's less effort to fill in. You can just quote that.

"A lot of bangers on this one!" -

That atmosphere... -

Bad day cure -

Favourite ship/character -

After work relaxation -

Biggest Letdown -

"Back in the day" game -

"Not the best, but having fun." -

Criminally Overlooked -

Masochistic shmup -
