So I grabbed the PlayStation 4 release of Flying Shark, Shark, Shark Toaplan Arcade Garage at the start of July that one of the M2 Shot Trigger games on PlayStation 4. Comes with Flying Shark, Fire Shark and the DLC bonus titles Wardner. Really enjoying it, I really like the original Flying Shark which is just such a chilled classic shooter.

Only downside and as a warning to anyone who has a PS4, unlikely the Switch version which I believe has it all on cart. Wardner and the console games is a PS4 Japanese DLC code in the retail version. So you require a Japanese PlayStation account. I have one from my PS3 days, but PS4 DLC is also account locked and you need to run your Japanese account in order to play it, won't run if you launch via an English account. Same goes for the free puzzle game (洗脳ゲーム テキ・パキ) Brainwashing Game Teki Pak that is included in both the Tiger-Heli Collection and this one.

Oh bollocks. Wonder how easy it is to set up a Jp account these days.

not that specific dlc but pretty sure i have other dlc working, think you're onto something with the primary console setting, i recon that will sort it out :)

Yes, you were correct, I had never set my Japanese account up as my primary PS4! So that's me being a bit of a noob, so all set up now and set as primary, so all account can now access the DLC.

I think the Tiger Heli release has this issue too. I should get around to opening those games :D

It does on PS4 as well, as I bought the Tiger Heli one last week. So you will need a Japanese account to download it from the store, well I say download all it is, is a license to access the DLC. I wasn't to impressed about that, which gets added to your account and library. I would suggest getting it set up as soon as possible, Sony Japan are fairly quick to expire download codes in the past I found. I lost out on a Capcom Dungeons & Dragons PS3 theme because of it and free DLC with games. That said the M2 code don't appear to have an expire date on them.

I’m not sure why I never went for it before, but I picked up Guwange on Xbone. Being a backwards compatible X360 game it’s not quite as sharp as the Xbone shmups, but still worth having.

I’ve played it in the past, emulated, and the main draw for me is the Japanese setting. I’ve really no idea about the game mechanics and scoring. Still, there’s plenty time for that!
It’s a real shame other Cave titles weren’t made compatible as I still have Akai Katana and Under Defeat HD kicking about.

Yeah, guwange is fab. very unique, and, like you say, the old feudal japan setting is great. I absolutely adore the style of that game.
The only cave poster I wouldn't be embarrassed to have on my wall :D

I can remember me and my friend found it just playing random games in mame and we both agreed it looked like a dogs dinner, far too busy with all the projectiles flying around, and it was far too hard, so we moved on to something else, but there was something that drew me back the next day.
I couldn't remember what it was called so I had to just look at the games that had a playcount of 1 and figure it out from there.
Amazing game, I love it so much even though I'm shit at it.

I can get to the ninja boss on the snow level and I just fall to pieces there.

The main thrust of it is to use you shikigami to touch and pause the bullets, turning them pink and then use it kill that enemy which will cancel it's bullets and turn them into coins.
It's all chaining. You want to try and keep your chain going for as long as possible, throughout the whole game if you can!

yeah, akai katana is fabulous.
There's gonna be a port of that coming for modern consoles and hopefully pc too soon so at least you'll be able to rebuy that one.

It's city connection but it's the same team (TAKExOFF) that did the deathsmiles and deathsmiles ii ports and that was great, almost no input lag on pc and although ds2 was pretty bare bones and "that'll do" in terms of slowdown accuracy, it's totally good enough and they spent most of their energy on the first game, it's supposed to be even more accurate than the 360 version.

Yes! Got a nightmare clear. Still have to do the trial+ where you have to beat every stage though.

This game is amazing.

I'm intrigued by your enthusiasm - what game is this?

Done expert alltrial with the green wife and got the extra stage and TLB.
You make up a lot of score in that final stage!
I think I do like her after all, I bounced off her the first time I tried.

I'm not sure how you unlock nightmare alltrial, I've done everything I can think of except for beating nightmare trial and getting the extra stage and TLB. I haven't done the boss rush on nightmare either yet, it might be that.

I'm going to end up double dipping on that one as well aren't I  I pre-ordered the Japanese release a week or two back and I'm not cancelling it unless the Euro version comes out at roughly the same time (which I doubt it will).

Out of boredom and curiosity, I felt like researching what shoot em ups have had the most individual ports/re-releases over the years. After doing so, I came to find that I think these would be right up there:

Xevious
Galaga
R-Type
Centipede
1942
Super Cobra
Choplifter!
Pooyan
Space Invaders
Defender
Moon Patrol
Raiden
Gradius
Twinkle Star Sprites

Asteroids must be up there. And Tempest.

ININ are handling some western release stuff

That's the version I'll be grabbing, I would suggest people avoid the Saturn re-release by City Connection. Largely because the Saturn version had a bug where the game doesn't show all the visual effects correctly in the normal vertical screen, you had to use the arcade flip mode rotate the screen on its side for them all to appear. Something that you could easily fix on PS4 with a screen rotation feature, like the one arcade archives includes... Sadly last time I checked the City Connection stuff doesn't include that.

Decided to revisit Zero Gunner 2 recently on Dreamcast after getting the Zero Gunner 2- on PS4, playing the original you can see all the problems with the modern port, which is decent, but I can see why the minus was added. Decent run on the first loop, but it does get pretty tough, second loop is just brutal and gets very tough very quickly so wasn't going to even attempt it. I need more practice on the later stages as well.

First go, baby! :D I'm gutted that I didn't get the extra stage though.

It was the boss rush that unlocked it. You had to beat the boss rush on nightmare, then when you beat the all stage tour on nightmare, that unlocks the nightmare difficulty in speedrun. I'm looking forward to trying that!

The nightmare boss rush was pretty hard until I switched to Juggo, that slower movement really helps for the more intricate patterns, and choosing shield is a huge help.

New free game came out on steam yesterday. Haven't tried it yet - https://store.steampowered.com/app/2088520/Shooting_Game_KARI/

Like Dreamer is getting achievements

I have confirmed the normal operation of the results in the test build. The gamepad is not working properly in this build, so I would like to implement the achievements as soon as we can improve it.

Dare we dream of online leaderboards?

Only noticed last night that Shooting Love 200X is available on the UK Xbox website. Always thought that was one of the few Japan-only 360 shmups, but apparently it was released worldwide in 2015 (some 6 years after the JP download). Would have bought it years ago, bringing my total of Trizeal purchases up to 4!

(Most of the content is on Steam now, so it's a bit redundant, but I still grabbed it.)
