Far Cry 2

RE5 was bad because it had racist depictions of characters - black people literally started chucking spears, Far Cry 2 did not have racist depictions of characters. Solved, also you are not too smart.

Fair enough. I must admit I never followed the controversy in detail at the time.

will do. Though I am tempted to remove the DLC and start again first.

Honestly, keep the DLC. It's great fun and the best thing is the choice at your disposal rather than the difficulty. Keep it and give yourself more choice :)

The silenced shotty is brill but you really do have to be pretty close to have any effect, as you'd expect. Within 10 metres if you want to kill in one, maybe two hits, with 6 metres to be sure.

The crossbow is nice to have just to have immediate access to a scoped weapon, but becomes redundant one you get launchers or snipers.

The omerta-style sawn off is pure shit, even at point blank.

How are you finding the controls and gunplay, btw? I got pt off by their clinkiness to start with but got used to it eventually. Took some doing though.

controls are pretty much standard, right? only thing weird is Q to through a grenade and H(?) to fix yourself up

The sawn off shotgun is what I use the most  Never had a problem up close and personal using that thing, makes them fly right back. Great stuff.

I also highly recommend the explosive crossbow for all the weapon dealer missions. These are basically just blow up a convoy going round in circles. You can hide up a hill and just take it out with ease and be on your merry way. Makes unlocking things much much easier.

Sorry, didn't realise you were on pc. Probably less noticeable than console, but the aim scaling is a bit odd. Very heavy until the get to the limit of the sticks range of motion, then it suddenly ramps up the turn speed. However, after ages on bad company, I struggle with it much less.

Yeah, this thread will probably take a bump or two for a little bit as FC2 was just in a Steam sale on PC for some silly amount. I completed this on 360 but it's one of the few games I double-dipped on PC because it's such a great game that a second full playthrough is more than warranted. Also, the different control scheme and included-from-the-off DLC is just enough to make it feel a new experience (plus, having the graphics turned up to 11 on PC certainly doesn't hurt).

Ah, FC2, how we love thee.

I've recently got around to trying to start this, after I got it around christmas or sometime.

I've played about three hours, and I don't get it. I don't get this game at all. I can't see any appeal anywhere. Which bits are supposed to be fun?

I'm just spending a lot of time crouching away from enemies, then when they see me, shooting them with a rattley assault rifle. then driving to the other side of the map on some gta bollocks. idgi. Is this game for people who like stuff like call of duty? I tend not to like real world type shooters, and hate tom clancy and overly stealthy stuff.

I bought this in 2009 and whilst I didn't play it all the way through I did enjoy the 10 or so hours I spent in the world.

Bought it on Steam for £2.50 recently and was expecting to just get back into it, but for some reason it's not clicking. My first encounter with baddies was a disaster despite trying different tactics (as excellently described by mr woo).

I'm sure once I get over the inital hurdle and settle into it it'll click just like last time. It just surprised me how unprepared I was despite having played and enjoyed the game before.

I'm looking forward to being presented with a situation and finding the best way to sort it. That's the real beauty of the game. Just a shame they won't let anyone mod this, I can imagine it would attract some committed modders (plus I want them to do a mod that reduces the patrols so they're not a pain in the neck).

So I picked this up for £8 on Xbox from HMV. Did I do a good thing?

Any tips for a fresh start?

Don't play it all at once. Pace it.

Be original. Try dumb things. Make silly rules to make it harder on yourself.

Why?

Is it awful?

depends. do you have a soundtrack playing when you go out IRL?

that's why, because it breaks the immersion.

also, has anyone got that permadeath thing in a smaller format? perhaps a single column, without embedded images so I can read it on my phone on the train?

It's so much more immersive with just the sound effects. On top of that, the music is largely dynamic which means IT WILL kick in AT ODD times whilst YOU'RE wandering around.

Trust us on this one. If you look through the thread you'll see loads of people saying the same thing.

Ah ok, cool, I'm all for immersion!

Cheers!

Cool, sounds good, is a stealthy play through viable?

Yep, I rolled with the silenced mp5 and dart rifle for most of the game. I'd suggest doing the weapon dealer missions as soon as possible to unlock all the gear.
