ZOK
Hardcore, for shit sure. It's pretty easy on that level if you keep your wits about you, I can only assume that Normal is a doddle.
Jam_sponge
I think I prefer playing on hardcore, but at the same time dying can be a RIGHT bugger... Realising you've just lost 40 minutes of diamond hunting is an actual full-on bastard...
The Bag
Is the save bug mentioned that it occassionally doesn't overwrite the saves properly - three times I've gone back to the game to find the last save some time back from where I actually saved, lost a couple of hours play this way. Vin
A bit random, this. I've been told to go to the bar for the medication, but the place is totally shut, and the bloke that runs the weapon store across the road doesn't appear, period. Did I kill the bloke inadvertently or something?
ZOK
Is this right at the start? I was confused there for ages too, iirc. If so, you have to go into Pala for your medication.
The Bag
If it is right at the star you have to use the computer in the weapon shop to buy a gun before it'll let you into the bar, which will then send you to Pala. Hit start to see your objectives, they'll be fairly explicit.
ZOK
Yes, that's right. I kept going back to the safehouse and saving to move time forward to see if the bar would open when I started. I was a teensy bit drunk though.
Joyrex-J9
88% now... and it's getting tough. Had to assassinate a guy through a open window in Sefapane, and boy did it kick off! how I got down that ladder and out of the town I'll never know. Even the standard roadside guard-posts are packed with guys and present a challenge.

Did I kill the bloke inadvertently or something? I just started this last night and got stuck just here too. Joyrex-J9
the bloke that runs the weapon store across the road doesn't appear, period. He's only gives you side-missions to upgrade you weapons. He'll appear when the time is right, then he'll disappear again (once you've done a few missions for him)

The start of the game is a fairly well disguised tutorial, the game is forcing you try out all the features (and buying weapons is a major part) before leaving you on your own. Wilbo
I'd recommend trying it on Hardcore, it's been a reasonable challenge throughout yet I've got to the end comfortably.

Joyrex-J9
What's the deal with the mortar? I mean when the enemy use it on you, can you ever stop the attack? Every time I've come under mortar fire there seems to be no real source, they seem to endlessly drop in from nowhere which gives you no means to stop it. It's a fucker and no mistake. Joyrex-J9
Yes finally, it's done! Well that was a disappointing ending. Really shit. Assassins Creed levels of shit. It had it's ups and downs but overall it was a great game, a bit unfriendly with the random jeeps, respawning guard-posts and weapon deterioration but once you got used it's charms it was a very immersive experience. And some of the best eye candy I've seen in a game.
hughes
I thought the ending was incredible. The battery one more so.

Mr Do 71
I couldn't kill my buddies at the end (on my 2nd run through the game), so I just grabbed the diamonds and legged it.
hughes
The machine pistols are good for that bit, also I think I got a few with some grenades.

There's someone out there with a mortar firing at you, they're just usually pretty well hidden. I've nailed a few. The trick is not to get spotted. The trick is not to get spotted. Ahhh thanks. Bit late as I'm done with this now. I could go looking for the 100+ diamonds I missed or the remaining phone mast missions, safe houses and guard posts which is probably another 40+ hours of play. But I have no inclination to do so, and the missus would murder me. In fact in order for me to the finish the game she went out shopping for 4 hours as she hated me playing it so much. kerraig UK
I just started this last night and first impressions are OMG!!! I can see that the checkpoints might start to annoy but that feeling of being in this harsh wilderness is unprecedented. I just did the oasis mission where I drive out in a buggy to blow up some trucks and it was all just so perfect. There were two guards standing next to a bush and I threw a molotov at them but missed, thankfully it set fire to the bush which caught their legs and they died shooting at me. I am truly gonna love this i think

kerraig UK
yeah ive read through the whole thread so know about the bugs and stuff. Cheers anyway though. I do already wish it was a little more RPG in that certain towns could be hostile depending on your allegiance, while others just farmers to pick up missions etc. Like if you see a truck on the road i'd like a moment of 'are they hostiles'? Would be nice. It does kinda touch on that side of things a little - but I think if they took it any further it'd be treading into RPG territory, and no longer be a FPS. Something I don't think they wanted to do with the series.
Timmo
I take it you chose hardcore kerraig? I had a quick go on infamous and it doesn't seem balanced for it. I ran out of ammo extremely quickly and I've read reports of you HAVING to take an LMG purely for the large ammo capacity, which are the least fun weapons in the game. Joyrex-J9
Oh yeah multi saves is the way to go... I used 5 save slots for this and just cycled round them. It's the only safe way, with games as bug filled as they are these days.

Run out out of ammo twice already, once at the oasis and once while attacking a truck of ammo. Running out of ammo and having to be ultra cunning made those gunfights SO satisfying to complete.
