Jamie John
Right-o, will do. Is it like Crysis then when you see a settlement in the distance and can infiltrate it from any angle/any way you like? And is there a stealth indicator? I wanna get some moonlight sniping in there but if I shoot one guy and the entire camp becomes immediately alerted to my presence I won't bother. Timmo
If there's any game that's it worth having a read of a guide before starting, this is it. Generally though, buy a sniper rifle, save often using different slots, use the buses as much as possible, use the map as much as possible, stealth only works when you sit still in grass, you can use the iron sights on the car's gun. Pilotwings
I have this game in the post! I'm excited Is turning off the aim assist and crosshair essential , would that make it harder?

It should say in the front of the box SAVE OFTEN USING DIFFERENT SLOTS. I can't believe the 360 version hasn't been patched yet, I must have lost about 6 or 7 hours now with having to go back to previous saves and re-do things. Bloody non-existent characters, non-existent missions, safe houses with missing guards so you can't unlock them. Even that stupid bug where guys are shooting at you BUT ARE CLEARLY NOT LOOKING AT YOU gets really tiresome after the hundredth time it's happened. Sneaking...sneaking... "ooh he hasn't noticed me, he's facing the other way....." "Oh no wait! Even though he's facing away from me and is shooting away from me he's still able to shoot my hat off! How silly of me!" Using rivers to get around is often faster as well mind. Don't forget though, those that are about to start this game: SAVE OFTEN USING DIFFERENT SLOTS
TheMagicMoose
Is turning off the aim assist and crosshair essential , would that make it harder? Its essential if your not a complete pussy. You can alter the difficulty mid game if your finding it too tricky. Having the crosshair off makes you use the far more accurate iron sight. Playing with aim assist on is just plain wrong in any FPS. It makes it a lot harder.Whatever floats your boat I guess, I played with them on I bet you played it on very easy as well. ZOK
I finished this yesterday, and for all it's faults, it probably equals 'Dead Rising' as a full on, immersive, next gen experience, and there is no higher praise than that. Just one question about the end though...how come if you choose the diamond delivery over the car battery mission, you have to shoot yourself after it's done? I couldn't follow the Jackal's quickfire reasoning. I did both endings, it's a bit cheap that they're the same. Also, I was a bit pissed off that all my weapons seemed to jam up every ten seconds in the Heart Of Darkness...how convenient! I might tuck into the MP at some point, is that worth a go? HA HA HA WHAT A PUSSY HE IS. NOM. Every console shooter has auto-aim. Turning it off is for spastic twitch freaks who think gaming prowess is a substitute for, or measure of masculinity. Frankly, it takes so many fucking bullets to kill anyone in Far Cry 2, you need all the help you can get. Anyway, I came here to sell some shit, but the mods deleted my thread because apparently modded consoles are the devil's shite, even though this forum was built on guys like Yoda hooking us all up. So fuck you all; I'm off again. Eat a dick.

Spacehost
OH STROKER! Anyway, I played it with autoaim off. ON A DUAL SHOCK PAD. I think it makes it easier to pick where I'm aiming at, I never like the idea of being persuaded towards an enemy instead of a 40 gallon drum of TNT. Yeah, but in my defence, on the PS3 every moving object sparkles like a diamond because of all the bloody jagged edges, so target acquisition isn't so tricky. OH TELL ME HE DIDN'T JUST GO THERE OH YES HE DID. I really am out, now. Love and hugs, y'all.

CarloOos
The auto-aim is of the CoD 'snap to enemy' variety and therefore pretty much essential for hitting people through foliage, but the crosshair is useless. You never want to be firing without using your iron sight anyway, so why bother cluttering up the screen with it. You want as little HUD as possible in this game, purely for the immersion. Rudi von Starnberg
CarloOos is right there. I played with crosshair off (on PC) because I like the fact that there's next to no HUD in the game.
Timmo
I'll add my 'agreement token' to that. For all its faults this is the most immersive game I've ever played. Crosshairs, indeed. *spits*
Quest
The game made me feel a bit wobbly without the crosshairs so I put them on. I'd never suffered from motion sickness before. And besides, I always used the iron sights for shootin'.
Dotterel
Frankly, it takes so many fucking bullets to kill anyone in Far Cry 2, you need all the help you can get. LET HIM SPEAK! That's another fucking thing that's getting right on my teet end. 3 fucking times I shot a guy in his bare chest last night and he still didn't die. I'm having to pace myself (no more than a couple of hours at a time) now with this but I'm only at 30% of the story still so dunno if I'll last the distance. In other news I assassinated the King last night. Cleared that whole area of bad chaps. Then fell off a 10 foot ledge and died. Oh I could have crushed several grapes, you know. Vin
Adding to the minor grumbles, it seems the APR berks don't register or even give a fuck about sniper rifle fire to the face. It usually takes a wayward truck or a blade of grass on fire to kill these fuckers.
ZOK
I've not found a single issue with sniper fire not causing mortal damage. Occasionally they will survive a round to the chest, but it's when they seem to be wearing body armour, so I can forgive that. What I cannot forgive is the many occasions where a bullet will clip a tree or some other obstacle over a shortish distance, when it's clear the shot was good. I thought we got rid of that shit with Time Splitters 2! Anyway, GOTY 2008.
ManInJapan
So been playing his and again so dreadfully unfair - shot a bloke in the head 4/5 times and he still managed to get back up. The comp. AI has next to night on magnetic bullets - seem to always be getting shot even if hiding. Game is starting to really piss me off - am happily driving through along some roads, next thing the whole area is attacking me for no apparent reason. why?! Retroid
They're wasting the sandbox potential a bit, wish there were some mods out there to give you something else to do in the vast outdoors other then kill.

verbs
Seeing that the wooden bridge railings were destructable, I decided to test if I could completely blow a bridge out. Dotterel
People being able to shoot you whilst aiming there gun in the opposite direction isn't. Infuriating isn't it. I'm 65% in now and I'm starting to worry because random objects have started appearing suspended in mid air. It's like The Dark Tower this game, the universe is beginning to crumble as I get closer to the end. I only started using a sniper rifle when I hit about 50%. The game is a complete walkover when you've a sniper rifle. Every mission is - Stand a distance from the target area - Pick off a couple of guys - Let the rest run straight at you like dopey plonkers - Move in and pick off the 1 or 2 that are left. Last night I did the mission where you've to repair a truck (carrying gas cylinders) for one of the buddies. I cleared the area, then wasn't sure which way to drive the truck out, so I scouted about 100 yards up a footpath to have a look. When I went back into the area the truck was I found all the guys I'd just killed respawned.
ZOK
Far Cry 2 is a sniping game, pure and simple. If you like sniping then there's no better game imho, even Sniper Elite isn't as satisfying. That respawn thing is odd, normally you have to move in to a different area for it to happen, but then the game is riddled with faults. I found that the sideways shooting bug disappeared for me after I hit around 25%, and then didn't get a single bug until the 69% freezing. I've never seen the floating objects thingy. Pilotwings
How come no one seems to talk about the online side of this game? looking across forums no one really seems to mention it. It's all COD talk I think the online is great, way better than I expected. I think this game is being underrated Not think so though?
Jamie John
What's with the unreachable diamond boxes? I found two in the northern region of the map, one sitting on top of a big rock a fair way into the desert with nothing nearby to let me get to it, and another on top of a train cart that I can't get to.
