Album of the week #4: ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead - Worlds Apart

First time I listened to Tao of the Dead, I thought "hm, this is pretty good and the flow and transitions are great but it's got fewer stand-out songs than their other albums". A few more listens, and... I still think mostly the same thing, except that I absolutely love the stretch from Summer Of All Dead Souls through to Weight Of The Sun, with both Cover The Days Like A Tidal Wave and Spiral Jetty being high points in that high streak. The second part, Strange News From Another Planet, hasn't gripped me as much, but I think it's pretty good too! I sort of wish it wasn't all one track there, though?

The whole album has a really interesting edge of psychedelia/discordance/electronic static. Not dominant features, but there's a definite edge of it.

Oh, and I liked Century of the Self too, though not as much as Worlds Apart. I wouldn't even know this band existed were it not for the Album of the Week thing more than two years ago, so I'm pretty grateful!
