Resident Evil 5 Demo

First impression is that it's too busy for the level of control you're given. Either that or I'm just completely shit. Some of the co-op stuff works nicely but other times it can be a great hindrance. I probably won't like it, there's just something about the way this and RE4 plays that doesn't gel with me. Oh well!

I burned with Nero - standard Data DVD - works likes a charm, though a bit slow to load (could just be the game rather than the burn)

I grabbed it from here (via NeoGAF)

http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=fdf4f17...66f2dcbbe596359

Unrared and then burnt the contents folder (the folder itself, not going into the folder and burning what was there) with Nero. No alterations to the settings for the burn. The 360 read it as a mixed media disc and you have to load it via the my games thing in the my xbox tab.

EDIT: Unskippable cut scenes?!

Yep, five fucking hours and that's waiting at the end... :(

What a pile of shit.. I think I can wait for PSN, given some of the comments on here.

From NeoGaf:

"Because the IP filters for M content now are up. If you try to start the download you will get a message saying that the content is not available at your region, if the dowload already started it will get an error at 98-99% (Live filters checks your IP twice, at beginning and end of the download).

Now if you live outside Japan you cannot download it from Live anymore."

I'm a massive resident evil fan, but i'm not sure at all about this.

The graphics are great, although there are Dead Rising levels of screen tearing.

As an action game though, which is what resident evil has turned into really, it's no gears of war. Moving and aiming is still so clunkly and slow. Basic enemies are shit and pose next to no threat, and the bigger enemies are just dealt with by shooting them a bit, running away, turning around and shooting them a bit more, run away again when they get closer, etc etc.

That's the nail on the head right there - it'll still be ace though and I will buy it and love it :(

What is this screen tearing everyone keeps going on about? I'm playing 1080p via HDMI and can't say I've noticed anything wrong with the graphics at all.

After Dead Space this feels like controlling a pensioner while wearing boxing gloves using the original Xbox controller.

I'll throw my hat into the "AI partner is annoying as fuck" camp. Cheers love just stand there while he calmy walks up and chainsaws your head off.

I don't like the AI partner either. And I really don't like that you now have to change weapons or heal in real-time. It might be more realistic but it's incredibly fiddly to bring up the menu, select a herb and then select heal. Also I'm now reminded of how the laser aiming is much worse than the wii version of Resi 4. Hmmm. I used to defend the tank controls of Resi 4 by saying it added to the tension, but now stuff like Left 4 Dead and Dead Space has proved you can be scary, have tension and not deliberately hinder the players movement, it feels a bit cheap to have the main characters movement be so rubbish.

Finally got this and I'm really impressed with it. The AI partner hasn't annoyed me once and with a friend it's even better. Like slipping into old slippers, got comfortable with the controls in no time.

For me things that they need to change:

1. Beef up them sound effects, they really need to be boomier, they're not even as good as RE4!

2. When someone is playing as Shiva let them switch shoulders. I know she is supposed to be left handed but I don't give a fuck, I want to be able to play any way I want.

I like the chaotic feel of it, and the graphics are lush as anything. I keep trying to use the Gamecube controls and it's not happening :(

Huge dislike for the AI Partner and also the real time weapon/item change. Like Majora said, it does create tension but I shouldn't be penalised by getting hit because of a fiddly inventory system that you're desperately trying to get through while not being hit.

Of course, I'm still fucking buying it but if the game relies so heavily on the AI character as these two demo levels then I'm getting ready to be disappointed. I want the option to play through on my own, I don't want to have to rely on having a friend play through or an AI character.

What I liked about RE4 is that it eased you in - 5 nice minutes before the utter terror of the village. I'm guessing we're not seeing the first two levels of the game here because this throws you RIGHT into it.

Shotgun sounds effect needs to go up by about 5000 as well :(

I'm sure in RE4 you could go from run to 180 turn almost instantly. In this, from the time I've played, it seems like you have to stop then turn around. Hmmm.

REAL TIME WEAPON CHANGE!

You can bloody keep it, Capcom!

Let's get to the important stuff - what's the sniper rifle reload animation like?

Re: the 180 turn - I should have wrote that you seem to have to stop before doing the 180 rather than stop then turn round.

I need about six hours on this so I should hold back to much negativity, that's unfair on the game. But fuck, it's got to live up to my favourite game in history pretty much, those are big shoes to fill.

Somebody deleted my NeoGAF account for posting that link here earlier. Doesn't matter anyway as I've never actually posted anything there, but still, seems slightly petulant. It's not like it affects their bandwidth or anything.

My account was deleted today too - I signed up when the bungie friends & family halo 3 beta started and posted on that day and never again. Might have just been a purge of old accounts?

Just played this the graphics are nice but again lot's of tearing hear via VGA hopefully fixed for the full release anyway it's RE4 in HD but with some nice little improvements I like weapon switching it's much better than going into the menus and the AI for sheva seem ok so far I like that they have put lot's of control options in so I'll try the demo again to see which is best. But pretty much as I expected and got me looking forward to the full game.

Had a brief play, and a bit like the Dead Space demo, I think this perhaps throws you in a bit too deep. AI partner didn't seem too bad. She didn't get killed whilst I was playing, although I can see how a Game Over when she does might be annoying. It's hard enough to look after yourself, let alone her too.

Not had a look, but I hope there's an option to swap the knife and the map buttons around. I tend to use my index finger when holding the left trigger. And it would be easier to keep it there, and hop onto the RB button from the right trigger to use the knife.

Graphics are lush. But after Dead Space, the controls do feel a bit clunky.

EDIT: I was getting me buttons mixed up. The knife is perfectly usable, pressing just LB to swing it, or holding LB plus right trigger. Doh!!
