Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

That's amazing. Everything looks gorgeous, but the animation is really something else. Nice little details as well, like stuff buckling under your weight and birds flying away. Naughty Dog really nails that blockbuster action movie feel.

That looks fookin amazing. :(

By a country mile my most wanted game of 2009. Loved the original and that video has me drooling. Hell, I actually think I could happily sit back and watch the rest of game being played based on that. That six minutes of gameplay was better than most action flicks in the last twent years!

I just watched it. I was rather comme ci comme ca about the first game (I was one of the gunplay versus platforming troublemakers), but to be perfectly honest, I'm pretty much gobsmacked at how many little awesome touches that 5 minutes managed to slip in, whilst all the while reinforcing everything I found so appealing about Drake's Fortune.

This just bunnyhopped straight from 'sitting at the back of my cupboard to be enjoyed at some point' to 'in a pan on the hob heating up nicely mouth watering shit goddam I'm hungry why aren't you ready yet!?'.

Wow. I'm impressed. The animation, colour, set pieces, camera, everything was amazing.

I enjoyed Uncharted. I'm not one of it's biggest fans, but it was a great weekend of gaming when I played through it and I'm not one to be negative about a game others love and that Ijust liked. I can see why it has such a great appeal though, it's no nonsense mix of shooting and platforming in a lovely jungle and likable characters. For me it felt a little like a gorgeous remix of games I had played before and didn't feel fresh so it didn't quite hit the awesome mark.

From that footage of Uncharted 2 though it seems to have taken it to that very next level. Enemy placement looks natural and allowed for amazing preplanned moves and attacks, hitting them with surprises wheras in the first game it just felt like endless waves came out of nowhere. It mixed up combat, platforming and set pieces really well and kept things happening to really keep the tempo up.

If the whole game carries on like that then it'll take the franchise from "like" to "love" for me. It's made me want to replay the first game too.

That looks incredible. Seems the enemies aren't bullet sponges any more which is excellent, the platforming is more fluid and the additional of stealth kills looks like it could be a lot of fun. Oh, and shields are always welcome as far as I'm concerned. So damn pretty too. :(

Yeah forgot to mention that too. They really have seem to tweaked and changed it to awesomeville, I could tell the differences right away.

Wow God of War 3 and Uncharted 2 this winter. Will I be a happy PS3 boy.

That looks splendid. I liked the first one but never quite understood what made so many people go mental over it. If the whole game is of the standard of that clip then it looks like a vast improvement. Most importantly to me, it looks like there's going to be much better integration of the platforming and combat elements as opposed to the first games usually rigid combat section, platforming section, combat section etc..

So! The multiplayer beta begins tomorrow, do we have anyone on rllmuk who got an access code who'll be giving their impressions?

Official details yoinked from a thread on the gaf:

When you boot up the beta you’ll find we’ve included 2 playlists for you to try out: co-op and competitive. If you’ve got friends, we’ve made it easy to play together – just hit the triangle button to see your PSN friends list and you can send them an invite, join their party, or just check out their profile. Keep in mind that for the beta, the party size is limited to 5 for competitive and 3 for co-op!

The competitive playlists contains 2 maps, with 2 game types available on each: Deathmatch and Plunder. Deathmatch is pretty similar to what you’ve come to expect out of “team deathmatch” in other games. Plunder is Naughty Dog’s take on “capture the flag.” At the start of a round, we’ve placed a treasure in a neutral location on the map and the first team to bring it back to their capture chest scores a point – three points to win. What takes this mode into the UNCHARTED universe? Easy; you can now throw the treasure quite a ways in any direction – in some cases, you’ll HAVE to if you want to score a point.

The biggest thing to keep in mind while playing in competitive matches is to keep thinking three dimensionally. There are many, many different places to climb, hide, and shoot from above ground level. The best advice I can give: remember to look up. And keep moving – if you stay in one place too long, you are likely to have your neck snapped from behind or even be pulled off the ledge you are perched on!

As for the cooperative playlist, we’ve put in a snippet of one of our co-op experiences. Our co-op setups are really rocking right now with three people playing as Drake, Sully, and Chloe as they fight their way through a war-torn city to recover a treasure worth a fortune. In this mode, teamwork is everything and running off alone is a sure way to get killed. Thankfully, in most cases – except for, say, being blown up —you’re not out of the game. If you’ve been downed, you can be revived by one of the other players before your timer runs out! If everyone wipes, you start at the last checkpoint you passed, but be careful, if everyone wipes three times the match is over and you have to start over again. Oh, and keep an eye out on the combo meter on the upper right of the screen. Keep your combo meter increasing by getting kills, picking up treasures or completing objectives and you’ll get a multiplier to the points and cash you’re accumulating. Enemy kills are worth different point amounts depending on what gun you used, so experiment to get the best results. I’ll give you a hint, pistols are awesome.

A quick note on your rank and the Profile screen. You are ranked on the total amount of online cash you have earned. This includes both the co-op and competitive modes, so you can rank up either way. In competitive, you earn cash for defeating enemies, and earning medals. In co-op, you earn cash for your point score and by earning medals. You can see your rank both next to your name in the lobby and scoreboard, as well as in the Profile screen. In the Profile screen you can see your rank and how far until the next level, you can select Boosters to give yourself a leg up in competitive multiplayer, and select your player skins for competitive multiplayer. Remember to select your boosters before playing competitive multiplayer, and be aware that boosters do not apply in the co-op playlist.

A single round by that Hind would split your head in two, but Drake just wanders through the hail only catching a few grazers.

A formalism, sure, but that kind of shit winds me up no end. Other than that, It looks pretty decent.

I really liked the Coop mode, the competitive was good but damn hard, I was getting killed with increasing regularity

I think that i'll have have another go tonight when I get home from work :D

Also why does it appear to be the only game which allows you to change the audio (ie from Dolby Pro Logic, DD5.1, DTS or LPCM 5.1 and 7.1 and they show up on your amp ^_^ )
