K
Also, I can recommend saying “Ma-Ma clan” in a kind of Dredd voice as a fun activity that never gets boring.
ZOK
It was certainly an interesting creative choice, but choosing someone to play Dredd with no chin whose most reliable facial expression was ‘about to cry’ ranks as a definite misstep in my view: Of course, it has the benefit of drawing attention away from his head rattling around the oversized helmet in each scene like a pea in a whistle, so the production team must have seen it as swings and roundabouts. I believe Barrow was in the frame, or wanted to do it or something, and actually made music but it didn't make the film. He released it anyway: https://www.invada.co.uk/products/geoff-barrow-ben-salisbury-drokk-music-inspired-by-mega-city-one-2019-special-edition-re-issue Whoops! Thanks for the correction. Both exist, and both are good.
choddo
I think they had to make the helmet that big to fit an actual human nose in, otherwise they'd have to have done the glass like a pair of Katos and no one wants that.

iknowgungfu
Not a huge Dredd/2000AD fan really but I enjoyed this film. It was tainted by the fact I watched The Raid some time before this and IMHO is the better film. Proper Judge fans maybe disagree. Lena Headey made an awesome villain though. The simple fact is if they can’t get the helmet right of an iconic character whose iconography is based almost entirely around said helmet, they should have scrapped the project there and then. As they didn’t, they could at least have had the decency not to go ahead with it with a half-arsed script by one of the worst writers of our generation, and having Dredd played by a guy with no discernible chin who looks like he’s about to burst into tears for half the movie. The movie stinks, and that’s all anyone can honestly say about it.

Ste_S
What's happened with Rebellion film studios? They seem to have gone very quiet on the Mega City One series, and Rogue Trooper film.

I think it would be an amazing world to base a series round, especially if they used some of the earlier stuff that really built it up and made it feel real and well fleshed out. I don't just mean the epics like The Cursed Earth or Judge Cal but even a story like Uncle Ump's Umpty Candy would make for a perfect standalone episode once the main characters had been established. The Rogue Trooper film had Duncan Jones behind it, I'm surprised that's been as quiet as it is.
Bazjam
Can’t find the tweet now but there was an exchange between Duncan Jones and Pat Mills on Twitter where Duncan assured him that it’s still happening, just taking a long time to put together. Can’t remember when this was but within the last year I’d say.

It does make me laugh that anyone could have seen this and think it was ever worth recreating, except as a useful exemplar of how to fail completely in translating a character from a comic to film. I’ll have to go back to read 2000AD again and see if I can find any of the issues where Dredd has the chin of a Reddit neckbeard, looks like he’s about to start crying in every frame and has to stuff newspaper into his helmet so his head doesn’t rattle around inside it like a pea in a whistle. Mind you, this is a forum where people also regard John Wick as a decent action movie, so I suppose it’s hardly surprising this sort of kitten milk is eagerly lapped up. Who’s talking about muscular faces? I’m taking about non-weak chins, which is a defining attribute of the Judge Dredd character and can be found amongst a healthy proportion of males of the human species. But presumably not when it came to casting Dredd 3D.
