I love this image, by the way. Really sums up a lot of what makes GAA so amazing. The nailbiting last-chance free balls, a county being only seconds from either the elation of victory, or the deflation of being forced to a replay. Fantastic.

Yeah, he doesn't do interviews or let his image be used for advertising. Just gets on with the training and the playing. And with being a complete hero.

Brilliant. I particularly like how it appears someone, apparently rendered completely irrational by the adrenaline, just fucks their jacket into the crowd in celebration at the 14 second mark.

God, imagine the pressure, though. The All-Ireland resting on whether or not you can put the ball over the bar this one time, with 80,000 pairs of eyes focused on you, and another million or two watching at home. And it's not even his day job!

Big weekend for my part of the world, Antrim currently down by 2 at Tipp at half-time, but the big one for me is Down in the Ulster Final tomorrow against Donegal.

Good win for Dublin today. We were on top most of the game but let Meath back into it at the end and it nearly cost us. We're getting better with each match. Nice to see a good crowd and some sunshine for the match.

I was going to resurrect this thread myself cos I was listening to RTÉ Radio 1 just now.

So is weeks till the replay for the final the usual thing in hurling?

Maybe next Sunday is considered too early, or maybe they want to leave the pitch for the following Sunday, which has the football finals. So 30th is the next one.

Next sunday is camogie, following week is football final. The 30th is meant to be ladies football final, but it had been agreed that the replay would be this date if required, so ladies final moved to 7th Oct.

Needless to say this has infinitely pissed off my wife, who is on the armagh county board, and the armagh ladies, who are in the Intermediate final. The girls have hotels booked, work booked off, holidays booked for subsequent weeks. So it is highly unfortunate that this replay had to happen.

I still think replays are terrible. I don't know what would be the best way to settle it but a solution is needed. Money spinners for Croke Park and another expense for the general public. Extra time is a necessity, maybe make them take 45s/65s in a shootout scenario.

Anyway, great game today. Just a shame I have to listen to the missus!

I was going to also say why not extra time and "penalties" (whatever they call it in hurling)? Just as an example, The FA got rid of replays in the FA Cup Final because it was easier and better with regards to logistics, policing, etc. That said, to be fair, the commentator was saying that this is the first time there's been a draw in the final since 1959 so probably the GAA don't see it as a problem.

Not so common in the hurling, obviously, but the football is quite common and replays highly annoying. I've been to more than my fair share of matches that have went to a replay and always feel short changed. The GAA will charge the same price for the replay and they won't bat an eyelid. We're the muppets who pay it.

It's not that common in the football, certainly hasn't happened in the last 10 years, unless I'm forgetting something. Everyone talks about all this "Big money spinner for the GAA", but after extra time would you really want the equivalent of penalties? I think they're a very harsh way of deciding a match even in soccer, where scoring a goal is all that matters. Having said that though, after watching the match yesterday it was a shame that there wasn't a winner, I'm not even from Galway but I was physically exhausted after that!

I got to see if from the premium seats yesterday - €90!!! I won't be going to the replay. My parents are from Kilkenny so I was cheering for them. It was a great match and I'm relieved of the draw given how well Galway played in the first half.

I didnt necessarily mean the final but over the past 12 years I must have been to about a dozen matches that went to a replay. Most notably the Tyrone v Armagh Ulster final which was held in Croke.

The tickets for the stand were €80 were they not? They've been reduced to €50. Its €25 for the hill.

Hmm true, although for most matches it's not going to be nearly as expensive to go to the replay as it would be for a final. All the same, I wouldn't be opposed to having extra time, 10 minutes a half to seperate the two. Actually, for the quarters last year didn't Donegal v Kildare go to extra time? No penalties or any kind of equivalent though, it's just not fair. So then a replay if it's still a draw after extra time.

It's a shame that I probably wouldn't be around for the replay, the atmosphere yesterday was incredible. I just hope to fuck Galway do it the next day, I've never supported a county to that extent when I haven't had a personal stake in it!

Hey, Irish residents. I hear that there was a bit of controversy in the Limerick v Galway Hurling Semi Final today - for one particular shot HawkEye said "wide" but officials reckon it was a "point". So they have turned it off for the extra time period.

Anyone got video of it? Can't believe that they think it's OK to turn it off mid-match.

I've not seen it, but I see this picture and media seem to be saying it was definitely a clear point which Hawkeye said was wide. I wonder what happened there then.

On RTE they said that one of the six Hawkeye cameras was set to football not hurling. So the bigger ball would have clipped the post and been given as a miss. Stupid thing to be allowed happen.

And Limerick are going to look for a replay.
