Red Dead Redemption - Never coming to PC

Possbily an older-but-not-with-cancer Patrick Swayze.

I'd say it's based on this here character:

proposition_7.jpg

Charlie Burns from the Proposition. But he's only really a pastiche of the older classics. Marston himself is a pick'n'mix of other leading men, old and new.

This is just so amazing isn't it.

I am currently sitting in some shack playing poker with some dirty men . There's a thunder storm outside This game is just dripping with atmosphereand just has the whole wild west thing nailed down perfectly.

They have got the poker spot on, well as a mini game anyhow.

You can jump off balconies and land straight on horses.

I will never tire of this.

Edge also singled out Josh Brolin's character in No Country For Old Men back in their preview.

I don't get maps in this game. Like sometimes there will be 2 destinations on the compass and I have no idea which is nearest because I have no map. I got a map for a little village but that's all. I don't even understand where this map is where you're supposed to be able to warp to visited areas.

Don't mean to sound rude but you do know that if you press start and then A you get the map? It's not exactly hidden...

However my first experience of the multiplayer was "You shot Meerman's Donkey's head off" which was brilliant

Damn, wish I could've made that game like I'd hoped.

Another time for sure.

I'm finding the poker pretty hard because I don't know how to play poker.

Same, although it's only the hands themselves that bother me - only a vague idea of what is worth what. The other game mechanics can be quite quick to pick up.

Also, The Proposition is on Film4 right now. Never seen it, but looks good. They just had the trailer for RDR on.

I found the poker pretty easy in the first place you can do it. They seems to be tight players and will genrally fold unless they have something, so just keep bluffing. I've won 87% of my hands so far using this technique.

Is there poker at the ranch?

First few games I actually tried were next to the sherriffs place...Armadillo, is it?

I can bluff them a few times, but other times I attempted to take them on with a strong hand (say, 2 pairs of kings or something), and found that one fucker would have pairs of aces!

Well the multiplayer we tried tonight; mixed bag.

The stand-off before games is fun, yet the "Capture the gold" thing is rubbish; and if I want team shooters I'll go elsewhere.

Seems that we never got a proper co-op "posse". To me this would be us CANTERING as a group (holding A, as we know we can do) to a destination to fight bad guys.

We sort of did it once, where upon it was just me and about 3-4 other guys shooting up the AI chaps.

However my first experience of the multiplayer was "You shot Meerman's Donkey's head off" which was brilliant

Also - the fact that the Co-op missions are DLC is sucky, and Rockstar are indeed vampire-money-sucking-sonsobitches.

The coop DLC has already been announced as being free when it's released in June.

I quite enjoyed the competitive multiplayer and thought it was quite fun apart from that capture the bag mode in an enclosed space. There may be other competitive team shooters out there but not very many in a western setting which I enjoy in this quite a bit. The Free Roam however was really great fun, just messing around and shooting bandits together was awesome. I really hope Rockstar support both modes with new features, buildings, quests, hideouts etc.

This is the kind of game where there's really no reason to stop playing, you just have to force yourself to turn it off and go to bed

Curiously I'm enjoying it but not really feeling compelled to return to it. I know I will, but the sedate pace is taking some getting used to, I fully expect to see quite a few second-hand copies soon from folk who weren't expecting it.

Well, today I decided to read the manual for a change (and found out how to do an evading roll and that it's possible to greet NPC's with the B button in single player mode)

Yes! They've made Charlie Brooker's hat-tipping game!

"Hello there."

"How are you, Ma'am?"

"Hola!"

Btw everyone I spotted some random leaving the bar in armadillo wearing a nice top hat.

So obviously I thought can I shoot it off. Yup and I unlocked an avatar award for the effort.

and the proposition is a very good film.

My only reservation about the multiplayer is how unstable it is with lots of people at the moment. I found the actual content great fun and there wasn't a single game we played that I didn't enjoy (whilst I was still connected).

Also, the poker mini-game is ace. I hope the mini-games are available to play in multiplayer as breaking up the shooting with a few rounds of Texas Hold 'em would be brilliant. I doubt they are though.

I just suggested the very same thing to Meerman and mr. woo. Being able to kick back and play poker in the local saloon would have been a great addition to free roam (as long as you're playing with friends and not randoms who want to shoot everybody all the time)

I just hope to god Rockstar San Diego support the game with lots more content. Sounds like a silly thing to say but so many times we've seen games ignored by their publishers/developers (Fuck you Ubisoft for what you did with Bound In Blood  )

If you have the 360 version press 'Start' on the pad, then select 'Map'. This brings up the map for the whole area. You can also, as you have found, get more detailed maps in stores. As for warping to a destination you have to set up camp, then pick the options shown on the right.

If in doubt, read the manual.

Yes

I had one game of Texas Hold 'Em but quit out because I didn't have a clue what I was doing, the instructions are banal. How can you you play when you don't know what is a good hand or not, or why the hell some cards are laid on the table and what that's supposed to mean.

The sad thing is that Bound in Blood only really needed a patch that sorted the netcode out a bit, it was brilliant good fun as it was - but even one measly patch was too much to ask from Ubi :(

I looked it up and the upcoming 4-player co-op DLC is indeed free and out in June already. I would say that is an excellent start to them supporting this game with extra content.

What's the deal with breaking wild horses again? At what point does it replace your current horsey (straight away or do you need to do something?) and is there some way of knowing what quality of animal of you're roping?

I have the Stallion you get from a mission currently, but I've seen some nice looking creatures cantering about the place that would match the colour of my hair better. Don't want to swap out though if I end up with a gluesack.
