Going back to 1989 here, when Bizarre Inc. was a duo featuring Dean Meredith (Chicken Lips) and Mark Archer (Altern8). They put out an album of Detroit Techno called Technological, which is basically a load of rearranged samples of proper Detroit shit. It's interesting, but I can't really recommend any of the tracks. I do quite like this Atmosfear sampling funky house groove from the b-side of the Technological 12" single.

Stumbled on to this on BBC iPlayer last night - only 4 days left to watch it! Loads of great rave footage and stories from the late 80s / early 90s. Some names I recognised, some others were more local heroes I guess. I'd not heard of Stuart 'Scoobs' Cochrane, but it sounded like he scuppered some pretty big chances with too much partying and drugs. He was instrumental in setting up Cafe Mambo in Ibiza, but missed the opening due to poor mental health. He also knocked out a promo version of Dario G's hit Sunchyme, but they couldn't get hold of him to license it, hence Dario G remaking it.

The story of Scotland's superstar DJ you’ve never heard of. A crowd-pulling DJ at 15, Stuart 'Scoobs' Cochrane performed from Bannockburn to Ibiza and all points in between. A pioneer of the rave scene in Scotland, Scoobs' entrepreneurial spirit and hedonistic attitude saw him host raves in the most unlikely of places including Blair Drummond Safari Park. But at 56, having struggled with his mental health, Scoobs had forgotten some of his younger adventures, so he bought a tape recorder and went to interview the people he'd partied with to see if they could fill in some of the gaps.

Scoobs and the Rave Years is a whistle stop look at the birth of rave and electronic dance music in Scotland between 1987 and 1993 and some of the riotous moments that happened as Scoobs and other promoters built up a fan base for this new music. Scoobs talks to a variety of people from back in the day and they remind him of some of his more bizarre and funny exploits. This is the story of the rave generation told by the people who were there at its conception.

Was checking out a stream on Twitch this weekend, 6+ hours of pumping sounds DJ'd from Amiga 1200s. Here's one of the sets which is mainly breakbeat rave. They managed to get some proper tracks into about 1.5mb files or even smaller to play out. No MP3s here.
