i can see lots of videos of people opening up TEs, swapping buttons, swapping gates, even swapping the stick itself on a SE fighstick, but is swapping the stick easy on a TE as well? i don't want to even think about it if there's danger of me fucking it up. probably a silly idea but i'm getting impatient with all my broken sticks (there are three iin my living room right now).

It should be, it's just screwing off the balltop, screwing off the stick itself and taking the 5 pin connector out and then just reversing the process. Seems quite simple

Video 6 there might help you (not seen it in a while myself)

;):(:(

Just got the Hori Primo courtesy of my man in Hong Kong...the outer box is bigger than my dining table ;)

The Missus just smiled (one of those: "you're nearly 40" smile's she does whenever packages arrive) and went about her business, no investigation at all.

Going for a run, pics later.

i'm getting frustrated. i have three TE sticks and two wireless xbox 360 controllers sitting in front of me. i started a party with someone over xbox live and then tested each one in turn. with each stick my friend said he could hear a bit of buzzing and interference, and that the mic output sounded the same regardless of which stick i was using. then i tried the two regular 360 control pads and as soon as i plugged the first one in he said "that's MUCH better, totally clear".

i feel it's be reasonable to assume now that it's not my stick that's dodgy, but i have no clue what to do to get a better sound coming through the mic. i guess i'll send back both [i.e. at least one of] the replacement sticks and keep my original because i love it. then try and test with a different mic and see if that makes a difference. but if the mic works perfectly with my standard 360 pad i can't see how a different headset would help.

been a pretty demoralising afternoon, really.

Is it a wireless mic? Edit: never mind, you said "plugged in". I would advise trying a different mic, it's obviously not the sticks that are at fault, it would be too much of a coincidence for both of them to exhibit the same fault. Is it an older model mic which uses the plastic thingy to connect to the stick btw?

it's a newer mic that just plugs directly in without an adapter:

WiredHeadset.JPG

i've tried it with the adapter anyway for the sake of completeness - even though i knew it couldn't actually make a difference because on this headset it's effectively just a tiny cable extender.

and yeah, for all three sticks to have the same issue would be a huge coincidence. but for it to be crappy on all three sticks while at the same time working perfectly on all the other controllers i have that aren't TE sticks? that just seems like it's being rude on purpose.

It sounds like whatever circuit board they are using for the sound is crap. I would make the assumption that its not broken, just that the board is not very good. I don't know tbh as i play on PS3 mostly, anyone else get this problem with the sticks?

I would really seriously try another mic before sending anything back.

Edit: I've used a TE stick ever since they came out and never had this issue.

sorry if i caused confusion with my many explanations in different threads, but two of the sticks are replacements amazon have sent me this week, which i haven't paid for. if i don't send something back i'll have a bill for a couple of hundred quid for sticks i don't need! having confirmed all three behave the same i figure i'll keep the original rather than a replacement. but yeah, i'm definitely keeping at least one.

(i am seriously considering only sending one back, though, and having two sticks from now on. but that's a separate and pleasant issue not connected to this whole enraging mic input thing).

Could you have a pad connected and use the mic over that at the same time as playing with the stick? I guess you'd have to have a 2nd profile logged in and in a party with everyone else but that might work short term.

Sounds to me like it's either a) problem with the mic or B) <-fuck off shade dude you were supposed to be a " b )" - interference that's getting picked up by the sticks but not the pad, in which case have you got anything located nearby that might be causing interference? If you're desperate to nail it down, you could try your 360 with stick and mic in another room and see if you still get the interference.

yeah, i thought about the second profile thing - it'd work for private chat with one person but i'm pretty sure you can't join parties on a silver profile, so i'd have to buy a second gold subscription too!

interference might be a good call, though - although i can't think of any obvious causes. next time i'm online i'll wander off to the next room and you guys can tell me if it improves!

thanks all for the support during this difficult time, anyhow, everyone. i look forward to annoying you all with buzzy noises next time we meet in battle :-)

New parts. NEW PARTS! Man, a box-fresh JLF feels amazing. Mine's gotten so loose (after maybe 600 hours+ of use). Now all my double QCF inputs are going to be too fast when I use Ryu. Oh well! :eyebrows:

I'll take some operating theatre pics when I do some transplanting this weekend. :omg:

i went through this whole thread and soaked up all the picturey goodness, so more pics will be more than welcome!

(also headed over to SRK and spent about an hour trawling through the last five days or so of their "my new stick" thread).

i'm almost certain i'm keeping a second stick and changing up the artwork on one of them. if i do that, is it possible to re-fit the original artwork if i change my mind? i'm assuming it's just a case of removing it carefully and keeping it in a safe place (and then using well-chosen re-sticking equipment when re-affixing it). was thinking about maybe getting a couple of plexi covers and several different bits of artwork and mixing and matching.

gonna get me some templates and install GIMP or something and see what i come up with, and if it's promising i'll keep the second stick. i'd love some of those buttons you can put artwork inside, too...

ah, decisions decisions.

Okay!

First here's my old TE, from the first batch that were shipped. I estimate she'd has around 500-600 hours use, and she's still amazing. In fact, I only needed to change the JLF, since it's a little worn, and I can just put my old one in my SE. dsc01269h.jpg

Here's my Vanilla out the box SE:

And here are the lovely new parts that I ordered.

So first, up I changed the JLF in my TE. Here I am taking my first peek:

dsc01272a.jpg

That was pretty easy, although I might have to get some of the gunk they put on the screw to stop them vibrating out of place. Next up is a pic after I changed the stick from the SE, and had just put in my first OBSF-30

dsc01275fa.jpg

It was a little tricky, since the OBSF-30s needed a little shaving with a craft knife so they'd fit in nicely. Here's the proof!

Here's the finished thing, with all the tools I had ready. I din't use a few of them but, y'know, it looks cooler. :(

I've just realised I should probably have swapped the wires for LB and RT around so I can navigate menus faster. Oh well! :( Anyway, nice pic of them side by side to finish off.

They were sold out ages ago, I think only a few PS3 ones came back in stock

Whoops. Sorry for getting any hopes up! In my defence ShopTo dont show stock levels unless you are signed in (which I wasnt).
