I never did get to play one of those. They were only ever in glass gamestation cases.

I also remember wanting an N-Gage right up until the day I played one.

What's good free software for mac os x that will let me put together stick art for my tatsunoko SE using the template I got from capcom-unity? I might wait until I buy a laptop of my own and use GIMP or something.

You can just use pixlr.com I think. It's a wonderful thing.

I believe these are the buttons you'll be needing. I can't remember which stick though; I've been using the default one. It's served me well enough for 1000+ hours, I'll maybe change it though to see the difference.

The buttons are pretty much a necessity though, and very, very easy to switch.

Ok, tried my Tatsunoko stick on mac with the Mayflash Wii to USB adapter and it works. The L and R buttons weren't recognised though, so I had to open the stick to swap them with the Lz and Rz ones instead. Probably something to do with them being analogue. Played a few matches of 3rd Strike on Mac OS X and it was all lovely.

The buttons definitely feel lower quality to me now that I'm used to using the sanwa buttons in my other Xbox SE stick, but that's a minor things really. I will be replacing them with Sanwa buttons down the line.

This being the first time I actually used it to play led me to notice that there's also a sort of loose plastic tube around the shaft of the stick itself, which my 360 SE doesn't have. I found it mildly annoying and I don't understand it's purpose. Probably not a big deal.

Anyway, quite happy with it.

Oh, with the mayflash adapter the dpad of my classic controller prop was being recognised as analogue and the sticks as digital. Holding the home button and pressing R switches them back around, just in case anyone has the same issue I had where MAME OS X wasn't recognising the anaolgue stuff.

I have an original PS1 Namco arcade stick (widely regarded as being one of the better stock sticks available), and I mainly use it with games on 360 due to the easy conversion of PS1 controller to 360 input using adapters.

I've seriously thought about modding it with some modern parts, particularly the buttons, but I'm sort of reluctant to "mess up" a classic stick. The decision not to mod was further supported when I popped the back off yesterday to find that the buttons are all directly soldered on to a PCB! i.e. there's little-to-no wiring loom inside this thing. The only bits of wire seem to come off the joystick contacts in to the main PCB.

So of course it can still be done, and I would like to add some nice, light-touch, Sanwa buttons, but de-soldering (the immense blobs of solder from what I can see) is a bit of a put-off.

Ah so the VX SA is 'better' than a HRAP? I assumed not because they seem to be cheaper. Does the VX SA have pop out buttons like the TE?

I think the HRAP is going for more simply because it's harder to get hold of now.

As for your buttons query:

The only complaint people seem to have about the VX is the weight compared to the TE, but there's enough space inside the stick to add extra weight if need be.

I don't see why anyone would go for something other than the TE.

I've had to open up my TE a few times to re-wire buttons because of the crappy PCB issues, I've also had my stick disconnect mid-match several times.

Hori dropped the ball with the HRAP, definitely, but they seem to have learned lessons from the TE re: ease of modding for the VX. Plus I've never had an issue with Hori stick PCBs crapping out.

Edit - yeah, it's actually like the original PS2 HRAPs, god knows why they soldered everything with the later models.

I grabbed one of those Datel sticks purely for the dual PCB, think I lost the stick when I moved though :(

That SBRAP is amazing.

Exactly, you get a dual mod pcb and a case for the price. The stick itself is actally fine to but I am totally over sanwa and will use pretty much anything within reason, as long as it's not just fucked. I used a namco stick all SVB and other than that I've been using unmodded dreamcast sticks and EX2's.

Sorted out replacing the stick and buttons in my TvC stick with Sanwa parts and went for a new colour scheme.

Stick feels lovely and clicky now but has also made me realise my TE stick feels a bit worn after 2 years of abuse so I'll probably replace the stick in that soon.

I've just bought another TvC stick too. At 15 quid it would be silly not to.
