Mass Effect 2: More waxing goddamn nostalgic.

Were EA's previous animated efforts any good?

The first Dead Space movie was pretty good, the second wasn't great but it also wasn't bad (the different art styles throughout were off-putting), haven't watched Dante's Inferno yet but I expect it's not much better than the story in the game.

Got to the collector ship on my Adept Insanity playthrough last night. I struggled for ages on the first part with the moving platforms and I dread to think how many times it took for me to get past it. Once I got past that part though it was fairly plain sailing to the end.

My brother was asking why I bother playing it on Insanity if I get so frustrated and I didn't have an answer for him.

Just started a second playthrough of this after playing the last piece of DLC, and I think my crew are getting jealous. Whenever I get a mission it's always me and Garrus first and whoever I feel like taking as my third party member. Basically I'm making them fight for the back seat of the car.

Aside from the Horizon and Collector ship difficulty spikes, it's quite satifyingly challenging on Insanity, imo.

I've just been given an option of going to get an IFF. Am I right in assuming that once I accept that mission it represents some sort of point of no return?

Pretty much, you can carry on playing after the main game is finished, but now is the best time to tie up any loose ends you have.

38 hours into Mass Effect 2 - loving it.

Not sure on this Firewalker hovercraft thing DLC, still getting through it.

Just added the Geth to my team and off to do his loyalty mission.

Miranda better put out soon mind she's been "busy" for a good 10 hours now. Nice to see Tali wants it too, already seen to Jack.

Edit - Let's be fair you can come in here and read all sorts of spoilers already. I post not read usually

Not after post 7900, which was our concession to all the new players who arrived with the PS3 version.

Damn the iPhone skin without subtitles! Anyhow saw some stuff previously that I thought was spoilery so wasn't reading.

Just finished it, about 50 hours or so. Oh man...

Lost Garrus, fucking hell. And Tali too it seems. Horrible. Still I sent Jacob down that first tube, made sure he got it - basically remembered a spoiler from earlier on in here re: Thane!

Gutted about Garrus, I wonder if I could have saved him. He's pretty baddass.

Still, tapped Miranda. The last 2 hours were an overflow of GamerPoints!

Overall, amazing. Nice to have my life back though and being able to stop thinking about it. Mind you these credits are still rolling...so much that the screen just went faded/dark as it does when you don't touch the controller for a while :P

What the...

Achievements for not losing ANYONE at all? Jeez! And also one for finding the Doctor without alerting attention? Youre screwing with me, pah!

Kelly got minced too. Bad times :(

Well:

For starters I'd ensured everyone was loyal...

For the second team I first picked Zaeed, and then picked him again the next time a team needed to be led. He bought it the second time.

My mini squad was Garrus and Legion I believe. Garrus is a badass so I thought he'd be okay but he was taken by bees.

The final two with me were Miranda and Legion again. I almost took Tali (who then appeared dead in the end sequence as she was off with the others) but decided shed be safer out of my team. Doh!

Is there anyway to save more of the actual crew/Kelly too?

To reiterate I lost; Jacob, Garrus, Zaeed, Tali :(

Also I decided not to destroy the structure. Asking people on the ship about it afterwards they all thought it could have been a mistake. Bah! Screw them! Martin Sheen can't be wrong...

Here's the rub of my choice:

I remember hearing "not everyone will make it back alive", so I chose the guy who I wasn't particularly fond of and as such was happy to see him dead. Which worked but seemingly at the expense of people I actually liked - Tali for one.

Garrus died on my watch though, that sucks :(

I guess my overall thinking was to kill off Jacob and Zaeed, neither of whom I really liked. Well I guess that worked, yet the side effects were not what Id planned.

Still I've got a couple of saves before it all so I might just pop back and see what we can do about that other achievement ;)

Still it shows you how good the game is that I was upset and pissed about it. Had it not been near 3am I might have been more careful with my choices, still I wanted to get it finished before I went away from the game until maybe next week; the only chance I'll get to really play it again!

As an aside can someone inform me about the Shadow Broker bug/what it does? I'm pretty sure I didn't get the bug as I played it through during the main quest; I didn't even realise it was DLC as I just got all the DLC possible once I started playing the game (which was around a month ago or so) - apart from Arrival which ill pick up when I can. Sure people here say it sucks but it's MOAR!

Re Shadow Broker

I was a bit perplexed/annoyed that after doing it and going back to visit Liara she doesn't say much! I probably should have realised it was DLC then as that follows the same pattern as Kasumi/Zaeed.

Still I quite liked it and didn't notice if it didn't fit in before finishing off the main quest.

I also really liked all the shadow broker videos. How dodgy are those keepers eh, eh? No sir, I don't like em...

Dinobot..

Did you recruit Samara at all?? Also, regarding Garrus' death, who did you choose to make the biotic field?

Oh dear I'm now seeing the big holes in my strategy...this is all quite funny looking back!

Yeah I had recruited Samara (I had everyone all loyal)...with the biotic field I once again used my "Who do I care about least" tactics by picking...Thane! And hey, the guy is dying anyway right so he may as well go down fighting. Except it seems that this choice led to the death of Garrus!

I can't really blame anyone on the team really. I guess at the end there I was just drunkenly smashing square pegs down as hard as I could.

Did anyone else have the same sort of "logic" as me by trying to keep those you liked out of harms way? Bit of a backfire all told...:lol:

One thing I will say:

Jacob had it coming. What an idiot. I even got him to convince his own father to kill himself. And then Jacob is all "Let me go boss, let me go!". Yeah I'll let you go...Ohhhhhhhhh BOOM HEADSHOT.

Shake it like a Polaroid picture Jacob. Ha.

Amen brother, jacob is probably my least favourite squad mate after Jack.

Nah - I dithered over each choice, but in the end made pretty much the correct link between the way the choices were described to you, and the kind of person needed; my run-through isn't too far back in the thread. I still

lost one person, although indirectly. Jack, either because she wasn't loyal (I couldn't patch things up after the fight with little miss corporate), or because I didn't have enough grunt (or Grunt) holding the line. Possibly because I sent Jacob back to the ship on escort duty and should have sent someone less combat-capable, so I had too few fighters holding the line.

But even if you get the right way of thinking, you can still make the wrong choice - per the usual mistake you spotted other people making upthread.

And like LeChuck said, you weren't the first for your particular 'Doh!' moment. My first play-through was without the DLC, so I didn't get that choice.

I liked Jack and...

It was great to see her fighting with Miranda, knowing that I'd tapped Jack already and the Aussie was next. Alas no 3 some option that I could wangle, all that anger! Although I think Kelly was more up for that kind of thing. Until she got minced :(

Ideally it was a Miranda / Samara double but the ice queen refused my advances.

I'm such a ho, this game got me down to a tee. Shame you can't keep getting the doctor drunk. Not bad for her age.

Dinobot, you fucking slut!

That's not all...

I agonised over Samara and her daughter, what a decision to make. In the end I kept the faith with the Elder - but she didn't put out. What an ungrateful cow, that's not very "loyal" in my book!

So for my second playthrough I'm going to kill Samara and then I'll see if I can tap the daughter. Let's hope!

I'm playing through The Arrival DLC...

Just got to get to the comms tower before the asteroid hits the mass relay. Am I near the end of it now? Because I'm not enjoying it all that much. Is this the final piece of DLC? It appears they didn't save the best til last, if so.

Bloody hell, this Arrival DLC is a buggy mess. Stupid thing keeps freezing when...

I'm protecting Dr Kenson. I say freezing, but it's just not progressing. I kill 2 sets of enemies, then NOTHING. Restarted it, got to that same point, same thing happened. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-
