Fucking thing keeps bombing out when I try to change my quickslots. I ought to reinstall the fucking thing but I can't be cunted to go in to the loft for the first disc. If I bought it on steam would I be able to use all the CE content I've got on the horrendous Bioware website?

Well I've owned ME1 for over a year. I tried to play it a couple of times but the stats and other things put me off and made me drift away. But this week I came back, forced myself to sit and take it in properly and powered through ME 1 and 2, just finishing the latter. :D

First decision I made was to make my Shepard female, for three reasons: 1. Don't wanna be looking at manarse all game, 2. In a game as apparently this story-intensive I'd find her more emotionally connectable/less wooden than generic skinhead, and 3. Having played the games, whenever I see the default Shepard in the promotional media I can't help but be surprised by how much shitter I reckon it'd have been if I'd played as him. My Shepard was the hard life in gangs on Earth/Lone survivor on Akuze kind for equal parts emotion+nails.

So my major decisions were as such:

As much as a noble goodygoody as possible! Within reason. :blah:

ME1:

Got with Liara, released the Rachni queen, talked Wrex down, sacrificed Ashley (for trying to shoot Wrex. Cow.), saved the council, appointed Anderson.

ME2:

Stayed monogamous :P, talked Liara into not murdering, completed all loyalty missions, fuly upgraded the Normandy, rewrote the Geth.

In the final battle, Garrus led the B Team (who else?), Legion was in the ducts, Jack kept the shield up and Mordin escorted the crew back to the ship. Final battle was with Samara and Grunt, we blew that place to the arse end of hell, and then I told Mr. Sheen to go fuck himself, babeh. Miranda randomly died at the end though, which I see as a bonus.

Questions about 2:

Does Miranda ALWAYS die at the end? It barely showed her in shot on the floor, right at the end after escaping the base, and no-one reacted to it, which I thought might've been a glitch at first, or like she was a Collector spy the whole time and had just left the Miranda disguise or summat.

Where can you get a pet? Saw it mentioned in a loading screen once.

Can you go to Akuze at any point in either game?

Had some others but forgot them in the half an hour it's taken my fucked arm to type this.

Oh, and are the novels any good? Are they in line with the gane's canon or just glorified fanfiction?

No one has to die. Miranda died on the point defense bit. Basically you didn't do enough to keep her alive. People's loyality and who you pick to do each role has consequences :)

The whole thing is explained here:

http://images.wikia.com/masseffect/answers/images/8/87/Suisidemissionfinal8.jpg

Pretty much anyone (Shep included :P) can die at any point of the mission - who and where depends on your choices. This means there's little reaction to their deaths unfortunately because of all the possible combinations.

During the final cutscene you should have seen some coffins that Shep looked at sadly if people died.

Oh and you cabin has pets. Fish and a Space Hamster are the ones you can buy IIRC, but can't remeber how you get them

Cheers all. :D

Just sat down with a few shots o' sippin' tequila and played through Lair of the Shadow Bastard.

Thoughts:

1. £7 for what's essentially two hours plus? Or so. :P Ah well.

2. This is by far the best part ofanything ME for banter and drew a few laughs from me:

The whole car chase was lols, Shepard was McClane-ing it up some. The only thing that would have completed it would have been to cut to your silent third man sat in the back (Garrus in my case) after Shep'n'Liara got out, with some terrified wide-eyed look after the near-death.

Also an ace line:

"He's got a kinetic barrier! It repels bullets and energy!"

"Well then..." *Cracks knuckles* \\m//

Also:

"You were dead."

"I got better." (Haven't I heard that somewhere before?)

Also, re plot:

My Shep stayed monogamous to Liara through 2, and it really paid off here! I think that the "Back for drinks" scene was really tasteful, funny, sweet and easily has to be among the best if not the best bit of videogame storytelling. Also, while I picked my Shepard to be female out of derision of the American Grant Mitchell Wannabe that is the default male Shep, I really think that the female Shepard design (that I picked at least), the superior female voice actor (as opposed to the Buzz fucking Lightyear male), and above all the WRITING really helps the Shepard-Liara story come together. I'm a booze chugging, Total Recall-watching tosser and even I just think that this well-written, slow-burning, multi-faceted love story with actual CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT(!) is really... sweet. ^_^

This really, I reckon, puts me in a major position of arse-kicking for three, as (huge spoilers for everything):

I've got the Broker on my side, potentially got the Rachni, Geth and Quarians on my side, told Sheen to get fucked so got the alliance on my side, and have Wrex trying to unite the peoples, so got them to potentially call on. Gonna be a hell of a rumble. :D

Roll on 3.

Having updated my PC late last year I'm contemplating getting ME1 and 2 on PC so I can create some save games and then get the new one on PC. I've already played through both of them twice on 360 but I want to switch to PC now! I was hoping for some Steam sale for cheapness but I didn't get that unfortunately :(

Bloody awesome games and game world though, excitement for 3 is building now as it gets closer :D

I haven't played any of the ME 2 DLC yet, it wwas always my plan to wait until they were all released and then see if the PC versions got discounted or put in a bundle but despite the console versions getting sales the PC never did.

Now we are coming up to the release of the third game I figure it's time to play the DLC so which is worth the cash and if I start a new play through what order should I play them in in regards to the main game missions?

Here you go:

ME1:

Bring Down The Sky- introduces the Batarians and pretty decent but not incredible. Play during ME1 before the final mission.

ME2:

Assuming you activated the Cerberus Network you'll already have Zaeed (excellent) and Firewalker (bleugh). Edit- AND THE CRASH SITE which you should do. Play the former before the first round of recruiting people ends.

Kasumi is good but short, again play before the end of the recruitment of the first bunch of crew.

Overlord is great, play any time but I'd personally leave it until later in the game but before the finale.

Shadow Broker is the definitive ME2 DLC, and while it works during the main thrust of the game it's best played after the finale IMO.

Arrival is narratively significant but pretty gash- it explains why Shepard winds up on Earth at the start of ME3. Just watch someone play it on YouTube.

Thanks.

I rate Mass Effect 2 as probably the best game I've played yet I've only played through it once where as I've finished every other Bioware game at least 3 times. The problem I have is I feel so connected to my femshep it feels really strange playing a different character plus I promised myself I wouldn't do a 'perfect' run and I'd live with the consequence of my actions from the first run through

I lost the Professor at the end :(

I would like a refresher course on the lore and events though so what I might do is play the story DLCs on the character I plan to take into ME3 and start a new character for a play through. It'll have to be a male character because even though I much prefer the voice over on the female side I couldn't play another female character. 'Femshep' and all she has done, all she has said and all the ways she has interacted with different characters is ingrained in my mind already.

I'm the same but I used default male Shepherd cos I kind of didn't know better at the time of starting ME. As it turns out, it's really all about the supporting cast for me and I didn't have the issues a lot of people had with Mark Meer so I'm going to stick with him for ME3. I tried a femshep playthrough a while back and it was fine and all but just felt wrong.

Is there any way to do the DLC again if you've already completed the game and the DLC? Haven't loaded it up for over 9 months and that was just to see

Kelly jiggle her bits at me

and wouldn’t mind going over LOSB and Arrival again. I'm not going to have the time to do the whole thing again so may load it up and have a wander round the place and just chat some shit to some old friends to get myself ready.

Quick question in regards to the end of the game

I selected carry on instead of start new game so I've got a save file ready for ME3. If I go back to my save before the end sequence and start a new game will it delete all my other saves from my previous play though. And is it possible to change the difficulty on NG+ to get that achievement on the second playthrough or can that only be done on a brand new playthrough?

And in my first play I managed to not romance anyone and Kelly died :(

Decided I'm going to play through this again on PC just in time for ME3 (I previously played it on the 360 and never actually did the ending as I saw it on my brothers play through ).

I started it up yesterday and soon realised I didn't have the Cerberus Network key as I got the game for free when I bought Dragon Age 2. I contacted Origin support and they've just sent me an email with a free Cerberus Network key and a 15% off voucher valid for 30 days (totally saving that for ME3's release).

I just need to make sure I can use a Mass Effect 1 save game without having the game now :P

I found it hard to have enough time to gain everyone's loyalty and have time to save the ships crew. Might try again and just go straight for loyalty missions, leaving the others to mop after the universe is saved.

This is now my most completed game this gen, 85%.

It's a piece of piss to do everything if you just leave the mission that triggers the finale until you've done everything else.

That's the Reaper IFF mission, to be clear.

Is that Samara or

her daughter?

no, it's Samara.

the daughter has darker skin and is a mental bitch. sexy, but mental - i tried with a parallel save to check out the possibility of recruiting her but i had gained too much trust with Samara (as she is my no.1 choice on missions) that during the showdown i never got the option to choose. which was a nice touch i thought.

I'm sure it won't be all that great but I've been waiting to play the Arrival DLC since release. I'll hang on a little longer, until just a few days before ME3 comes out. Just sat there on my 360, my marvellous, Renegade Lesbian Space-Bitch Femshep is all raring to get stuck in to some Reaper action.

CAN. NOT. WAIT.

That's not why you didn't get the option. You didn't have high enough paragon or renegade, I believe.

Spoiler alert: Arrival is shit.

No doubt. Although some said that about Bring Down the Sky, and I thought that was awesome.

In fact, I've loved every piece of ME/ME2 DLC, basically because it's more time to spend with my gang of space friends (waaay better than my real friends).

Played through Kasumi, Overlord and Shadow Broker over the weekend - I got them when they were on sale for 200 pts each but only just got round to it.

In fairness all 3 were really good for that price, Kasumi was short but really interesting , Overlord I thought was fucking great and had a real hard sci fi edge to it, and the music was superb. Shadow Broker was an absolute looker but the 2nd part dragged out a bit too long. Could have done with more time inside (I'm trying to remain spoiler free) but the climax was great and the post mission content really delivered.

Overall they were all sound but would i pay the equivelent of near £20 worth of points for them?

Fuck no, it's just not good enough value.
