I think Stu puts all that awkward, face-pulling shit in as a double bluff. You’re not meant to enjoy it, either for reals, or ironically, as some kind of masterclass in creating embarrassed tension in the audience. It’s genuinely crap, he knows it is, and rather than nod at its sagacity, you’re just supposed to skip it.

So, metaphorically, it’s a fly in the ice cream, that got put in as a piss take by the ickyman. Or something. Enjoy!

This is just plain wrong, I was in absolute hysterics throughout the whole unsayable bit, I hadn’t laughed that hard in years - it’s the best therapy.

Also how can you skip it? He’s a standup comedian who performs in front of a live audience.

Well I found the repeated 'for example' section absolutely hilarious and then watched it again straight after it had all finished and found it hilarious all over again - it's just so unbelievably well crafted and so uniquely Stewart Lee and I love it.
But I found the 'unsayable' bit quite cringey and spent most of it just a bit worried for his health and that he might give himself a stroke.
Makes you think.

The humour in the unsayable bit surely comes from how he walks to the lectern, pretends to have a swig of beer but actually reads his notes, then walks back to centre stage and carries on.  Just like Ricky Gervais, paid millions for his Netflix specials, but can't be bothered learning it.

Went to see the new show last night, my first time seeing Lee live. Had an excellent time, and having known what to expect I didn’t really miss the pulling together of multiple narrative strands into one final gag, it was just solidly funny throughout. There was a decent chunk of repurposed material in the set, but that always seems to be the case, doesn’t it?

I have to say the centrepiece routine of the show is bound to go down an absolute storm on here, the London metropolitan elite couldn’t get enough of it yesterday. I’d absolutely love to catch the show again nearer the end of its run though, to see what changes over the course of touring, and witness some different improvisations.

And what a treat to come home to see another hour courtesy of Tornado on the beeb.

It always surprises me that people (not here obviously) react to Stewart Lee like his stuff is that unconventional they can't find the jokes. Yeah I don't always like him running something into the ground, like I don't like everything but that's the same for every comedian. He's one of the best with words of any comedian I think, second behind Carlin. Even in interviews he just accesses more words to express what he thinks and is more thoughtful with it pretty much every time.

His comedians comedian interview is one of my favourite interviews of anyone, I regularly go back to it to hear him explain how his family can't understand how he does stand up for a living. Not all his family, not his wife obviously who is also a comedian.

Anyway, I only came in here to shit all over Todd Barry so I don't want to get distracted.

Why don't people focus all their energy on someone like Todd Barry, who after an hour of watching stuff I think I'm giving up on finding any good material he has.

Just booked tickets to see him next year when he tours the show. In Guildford. Yeah, he’s laughing at you, Guildford.

I used to live in Guildford and I remember going to see Eddie Izzard at the old Civic Hall. He clearly didn’t think it was the right town for his show, and kept referencing that. Made for a bit of an odd gig.

Saw Dara O’ Briain at G-Live in midweek and it was like a morgue (although the first half of his show was shit to be fair). He even said going into the interval “Go and have a few drinks or take a line of something and maybe liven up for the second half.”, which really didn’t help his cause.

Stewart Lee is doing 3 nights at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre instead, so it’ll be a much better experience.

Honestly I thought the audience bloke said 'knowledge is power' and the constant misquotes from Lee were an unintentional reference to him going deaf!

Guess the last laugh is on me. :(

He clearly does say that, Lee misheard him (or, which I suppose might be more likely, pretended not to hear him a couple of times to think of something funnier).

Tornado's really good, although the

felt a bit out of place?
