A few podcasts have mentioned board games being cool on the iPad

As a beginner, where should I start? (I've played the likes of monopoly but nothing remotely hardcore)

I like Trivial pursuit, it's often cheap in the EA sales and there are additional question packs for download.

Well I went ahead and bought Infinity Blade 2 this morning, as with all the trying to justify it, when I look at it objectively it's less than the cost of a pint and I'll be buying lots of those tonight.

I couldn't tell you what it's like though as I had to leave the house before it finished downloading.

I had a bit of a play with that Unknown: 3D Space Trader last night. It's actually pretty awesome! It's not a rip-off of Elite, it IS Elite, with a different name on the title screen, so I can't imagine it lasting long before Braben has it removed.

It's the sort of thing that sounds like it couldn't possibly work, but it's actually remarkably playable... though possibly slightly easier on the larger screen of an iPad.

Yes, it is Elite. I know this because I played it for ages, couldn't hit anything with my lasers except stationary asteroids. After warping to another planet, couldn't find the space port and after flying for twenty minutes on full speed am no closer to the planet either.

It would only have been more like Elite if I'd have spent two hours smashing my ship up while performing the universe's most uncoordinated docking maneuvers because I don't have a docking computer.

Love the music on it too, I don't remember any on the original (played it on Spectrum mind you). Really lovely looking on the iPad.

Max Payne is a bit of alright.... I cant believe im actually playing it.....ON MY PHONE!!!!!

It actually controls pretty well, and all the dialogue and atmosphere is still intact.

and at the end of the day, its £1.99.... i cant complain at all at that price point.

Rockstar have now got me on the Max Payne 3 hype train..... choo choo

I'm still amazed that there aren't more cryptic crossword apps on the iPad.

I can't agree more. Now I'm freelance I want to write a crossword app as it wouldn't be too difficult and I love them. I'd want to source some good quality puzzles though which is where it gets trickier. Plus I never seem to have the time.

When you go to another planet you can speed up the planetary approach by holding down the 5th icon from the left - this will work until you're a) near another ship or asteroid or b) in the vicinity of the space station.

I think docking on it is also a little bit more forgiving - generally aiming for the centre of the docking port of the station and going about a quarter speed will get you in.

My Dad loves Cryptic Crosswords, so when he was over at Xmas I was all like "Check this out, bet there will be millions of 'em on the iPad".

Nada. Zilch. Big gap in the market there IMO.

I will give that a try, thanks!

Gah, so now I have shot every ship out of the sky with my piss lasers like some sort of space ace, and I still can't dock the flipping ship.

Elite, I try to love you, but you spurn my advances today just like you did 25 years ago...why must your doors be forever closed to me?

Any other questions, you can find the dev here - he's a nice guy...

How is that possible? I mean, why didn't the already connected balls disappear prior to taking the shot?

For a cluster to be removed from the table it needs to be either 7 balls or ALL the balls of that colour. The exception to that is when there are no single (unconnected) balls on the table - at that point every cluster is removed and the table is cleared. The ball he shot was the last single ball. Obviously he'd gone to a great deal of trouble planning and arranging the table.
