I don't know whether to curse or congratulate whoever reccomended Plague Inc.

On one hand, it's a fantastic value game for 69p being double-rock-hard-bastard difficult to win and has a easy to use, minimal interface. On the other hand, I've spent about 2.5hrs today in the works toilet playing it and have heard things that no man should have to hear.

Considering hundreds of millions of people can die in-game of various bowel disorders the background noises were strangely appropriate.

Yes, this is amazingly good. Well worth the entry fee.

69p for Galaxy on Fire 2 is a total bargain. Downloading Mass Effect now.

I'm waiting for the HD version to go on sale, should I wait or is there not much difference to notice in the eye candy dept with this version?

How retro do you like your games? Because if you don't mind them looking like this:

undercroft.PNG

Then Undercroft fits your criteria almost exactly. It's free as well.

The interface is a little awkward on that, plus I'd rather go third person if possible. I'll persevere though, thanks for the recommendation. Has anyone played The Quest. Aralon: Sword and Shadow or Ravensword?

Recommendations sought for iPad baseball games, please. Action-oriented, rather than management. Proper MLB rosters a 'nice to have' but not a deal breaker. All suggestions appreciated - thanks!

In other news, Monsters Ate My Combo is utterly, mentally brilliant. Many thanks to whoever first mentioned it. SomethingWitty on Game Centre if anyone fancies some leaderboard action. Also currently enjoying Song Pop (or whatever it's called), Tiger Woods (thanks to the EA sale - much lovelier on iPad) and Contre Jour. Also, Rebuild, DrawRace2HD and Pandemic are rocking my world. Right now, who needs 'proper' consoles? iOS gaming has never been better! :)

What do you find awkward about the interface? I found it very intuitive.

The Quest is dire, don't bother with that.

I've not played Aralon or Ravensword, but the reviews look mixed.

You might like Avadon: The Black Fortress. It's very high quality, but I found the tiny, tiny objects impossible to deal with, even on the ipad.

I've also just taken a punt on Descend RPG, will let you know what it's like.

May be late to the party, but - slight control issues aside - The Bard's Tale really is outstanding value. I've never played the originals, so am thoroughly enjoying the opening game so far - probably 10 or so hours in. Also surprisingly funny in places.

Mass Effect controls like a piece of shit, which is a real shame as otherwise it seems a solid and polished game. Wish it was on Vita.

I really don't agree there. I played it on my new phone and was pleasantly surprised by how streamlined the controls were. Tapping on enemies to target them, and the simplified controls for vaulting from cover etc are really well done. It's certainly much better than Dead Space.

Descend RPG is a terrible game by the way, which is a shame as the 3D engine is rather nice. It feels like a sort of middle ground between something like Undercroft, and Legend of Grimrock:

Unfortunately it's really, really boring to play, and there are some duff design decisions as well. Enemies randomly spawn in the worst way you can imagine, i.e. you go into a room, close the door, and then suddenly a "Soldier" or a "Rogue" appears, without warning. The presentation is really variable as well. The game world looks nice, but the graphics for the menu items are appalling.

Oh, and there's no map.

Such a shame.

Well it started off ok, but I am on the hanger section now and getting into and out of cover is a mess. Seems to be random when your guy will go into cover. Also using the swipe command to get out of cover isnt very responsive either, although not helped by the fact I naturally keep swiping the wrong side of the screen. Also the camera seems to be set too low when you are moving forward, so I constsntly feel like I am battling the camera.

When in cover the actual shooting seems quite good, although moving between targets when they are a fair distance apart seems a bit slow.

this might all be down to me just not being used to virtual sticks as I tend to avoid them like the plague. But the 69p price point and the Mass Effect link was enough to tempt me.

It looks gorgeous though.

Also the game needs some sort of quick turn/evade move, as its sluggish as hell. Its all ok as long as the enemies file towards you from the front, but in some sections they are coming at you from all angles. Maybe this is me just managing the battle poorly but this is result in some hilarious running around in cirlces/backwards from me as the control scheme just spazzes out when you try and do anything to fast or elaborate.

It sounds like I am being really down on it, but only because its actually a good game, its just ham strung with iphone controls. I just wish it was on the Vita, I would happily pay £6.99 for it on there. Im gonna stick with it and hope I can get better and the controls will become less of an issue in time.

Also, should I be concerned about my iphone, it gets bloody warm when playing this!

Blog post about our 'Games We Like' initiative. Basically encouraging developers to promote each others games.

And the section on our site:

Those reviews and links will be replicated in the next update of Magnetic Billiards.

That's a nice little list! Good call on Quarrel, terrific game...and some ones that I've never seen mentioned here too. I like the look of Eufloria.
