I've been hooked on Mighty Doom the last few days:

It's basically Archero, but in a Doom setting but it works great. Some of the bosses rely on lucky builds but overall it's balanced enough to not feel unfair.

going to have to try this, looking at the video it really is Archero but with different characters all the backgrounds look like they're directly out of it.

I'm not totally sure whether to post this here or in Retro, but suspect more people might see it here. I'm looking for an old iOS game that I can find no evidence of ever having existed. It was called Pong 2 (or Pong Squared) I think, and it was a kind of RPG version of Pong. It started out with a conventional game of Pong, but when the ball goes out of bounds, you go with it; the game consisted of you guiding the ball through this Pong-like world, exploring and finding things, with it all being done in visuals that were a more colourful version of the style of the original 1972 Pong.

The controls were very unwieldy, in that you pressed on the screen and held to apply momentum to the ball, but the actual process of exploring the world was quite good fun. It reminded me a bit of a kind of cross between Pong and VVVVV. It had this mad swing / jazz soundtrack.

I would assume that it was deleted from existence as it was pretty clear it wasn't an officially licensed Pong product, but I can't find any videos, screenshots, or any discussion of the game online. There's no evidence of it in my iOS download history. It feels like I might have imagined it, but that can't be right - I'm sure I downloaded it, and remember playing it.

Am I going mad, or does anyone else remember this game?

I'm gonna assume you're not talking about Pong Quest and it's a much older game instead?

Yeah, I've just had a look - it's not that, it was an older game. Very minimalist visuals.

I never really liked Into The Breach on Switch, re-downloaded several times trying to get into it but never did.

Know a lot of people did though and it's coming out July 19th on mobile, but the catch is not to buy, it's part of the newish Netflix games service so you'll need an active Netflix account to activate the game and play.

There's a similar game to that on Switch called Family Tree. Based on an iOS game that I don't think is available anymore

The Switch game if anyone has a hankering for this type of game

Has anyone got a ‘Backbone’ controller? I got one for my birthday and it’s pretty cool.  Can play phone games, but also Xbox games via remote play or Cloud Gaming.
Need to find some new games for my phone now though…

NETFLIX Into The Breach (yes it's called that) now released, though you're only way to play is if you have an active Netflix sub.

Going to have my 3rd or 4th attempt at actually getting beyond the first couple of levels having failed dismally to bond with it on Switch

Nah, the guy who made Papers Please was the guy who made Return of the Obra Dinn

Ha that’s the way I always think it.

Papers please is amazing. Though I’m not so sure how well it will translate to a small screen. Part of its brilliance is how you have to manage your desk space in order to manage migrants efficiently. It’s also needs IMO some dedicated sessions and may not be well suited to short burst play but I could be wrong. Irrespective though, it’s amazing. Play it.

Got an iPhone 13 Pro and an active Netflix subscription and can’t for the life of me get Poinpy or Into the Breach or any other Netflix games working. They just won’t boot past the Netflix screen.

anyone else? A quick Google and I’m none the wiser

Hello,

Can anyone recommend some games that you can play using local multiplayer, ie me and my son across two phones with no need for an internet connection?

Genre not really important at the moment, just looking for anything really.

Cheers,

Indy

Hero Emblems 2 is out….

Picked this up last week and put about six hours in so far. Really pretty looking game, and more of the same having enjoyed the first adventure. Do find it massively grindy in places but the match-3 element is enjoyable enough that having to replay sections isn't too much of a chore. Good option to have on the commute.

Not played this, but think I’ll finally give it a go. He’s the guy who made Return of the Obra Dinn, which is the best game ever made.

Same, always wanted to but never got around to it.  It's downloading.

Railbound is a nice puzzler from the makers of Golf Peaks.

Simple concept in you have to route trains to hook up to the engine in order utilising the environment and limited number of bits of track you have.

Some lovely head scratchers quite early with the bonus levels that open up as you go along.

No ads or IAP, single £4.49p purchase or 3 times if you want it on Steam.

I'm onto the 3rd world and each new one introduces a new element - had to leave a couple of the bonus levels as they retain the simplicity but just can't see a solution, it's the sort of game that benefits from walking away from a level and looking again with fresh eyes.

Lovely clean design and implementation of things, perfect phone/switch/deck game.

A new 'card' game came out today - Marvel Snap. It’s made by a bunch of the old Hearthstone team and seems promising from the hour or so I’ve played of it.

Its USP is that games are quick (<5 mins, 6 turns) and synchronous. I don’t think it’s particularly P2W - you unlock cards by playing.

No idea about the Marvel aspect of it as fuck that noise.

It's on Steam as well and if you google link it you can play on both.

It's a SLLLLLOOOOOOWWWW grind to get anything good, and £9 for the season pass is a piss take.

I like the way you unlock the effects for the cards etc, but it won't be long before it gets uninstalled.

I know I'm dragging up an old post, but in case anyone was wondering, Papers Please works amazingly on the iPhone! I actually find it slightly easier to play with the interface they've built - I was able to get into a decent rhythm of checking documents. I fully recommend this port!
