I can't do the bloody pipes thing! Got to the part where you have to play the first tune (along with the other guy) and every time I try, he gives me a bollocking and says I'm doing it wrong (which I guess I must be) but I'm blowing when he gives me the signal (by looking at me, I assume) and I've tried blowing the pipes in all different ways (long blast, short blast, etc).

I haven't read the rest of this thread to avoid spoilers, so I don't know if this is a common problem or if I'm just being a retard somehow.

How do I do it?

So far i'm finding the combat easier, but the puzzles are a bit more tricky though.

The wife pointed out that I'm gonna look a right prat blowing away on the train tommorow morning. Must say she has a point. Do you have to blow into the mic or is there an alternative?

You have to blow into the mic. But really who cares if you look like a prat? I mean, come on.

i would say the same regarding music and direction of cut scenes. It all seems on a different level compared to PH. The music is brilliant, and really varied.

I'm really surprized (eg. disappointed) that nintendo seems to have stepped away from offering OSTs for their 1st party titles (with the exception of the pokemon gold & silver remakes) in japan. the last one that I can remember being able to purchase was wind waker. :(

I don't think they have, there was definitely a Mario Galaxy official OST.

yes, I own that one as well, however wasn't it only available for their Club Nintendo members? I don't recall it being something you could order off of amazon.co.jp.

edit:

in fact, there were two versions of it. a regular 1 disc edition, and a 2 disc, limited edition for their platinum members.

Various importers (Play Asia, Yes-Asia, etc.) managed to secure stocks of both releases for a while, so they weren't exclusive to Club Nintendo members.

to be honest, I found phantom hourglass more enjoyable (so far). I know that one main gripe about PH was the hourglass dungeon being repetitive, however it really wasn't too bad given that many shortcuts opened up, allowing you to zip through the first few levels on your return visits.

spirit tracks appears to be more of a PH v1.5 to me, rather than a completely new experience and the train sessions are still just as annoying as the boating originally was in the wind waker especially given that your choice of courses is limited by the track layouts themselves (not wanting to bring spoilers into this thread).

the passenger's conditions (whistle, speed) forces the travel into something that you have to interact with rather than just setting a course and mindless waiting for link and co. to reach their destination.

Definitely. This is Nintendo's laziest Zelda yet. It's all just so crushingly over-familiar.

I've tried this - still can't get past the third note before he stops me and gives me a bollocking.

Am I really the only person who's had a problem with this??

What is the signal I am looking out for - is it when he turns to face me, or when the little yellow diamond at the top of the screen flashes?

You must be doing it wrong. Watch this instructional video:

Are you letting go between notes or something? When he turns you just slide it around and blow on the appropriate notes roughly in time with the beat.

So I have to blow all three notes? Not just the middle (yellow) one which is in the centre of the stave (is that even the right word? Long time since I had a piano lesson..)

I'm obviously being a bit retarded as no one else had this problem.

Why would you only play the middle one? You play the notes which correspond with the colours on the instrument.

I don't know. I just played the middle one because it was in the middle of the screen I think.

So, in the first test, you play all three notes after the loco guy plays his piece on the violin?

Yes. I think you're probably the only person in the world who will have this problem.

It would appear so.

It just didn't seem that intuituve to me at all - not a problem I can remember having in any other Zelda game, and I've finished most of them. I could even pilot the boat in Windwaker pretty well!

I'll tell you whats bringing my piss to a boil, its that fucking rabbit catching mini game. You get what, 8 seconds? And apparently you have to be right on the pixel to catch the rabbit, which is nigh on impossible because it's always running about, and if it does stop, you just get in a blind panic and jab the screen randomly. Then you fail and it buggers off until you die or go away and come back later. GYUUUUUOFVUOVCL!
