Having said all that, I do find the prospect of going back to the basics very appealing...

Just do that without losing stuff!

I played a game only using the default classes last night. Was fun. The default classes include some gems.

Again, I find myself complaining about the schedule of unlocks because while the guns are pretty balanced throughout, later unlocks arent nessicarily better, they are just different, Perks do seem like they could have used a bit more thought, you are completely fucked with a lack of options if you happen to be below level 30. You dont realise this the first time round, but its massively obvious after prestiging. Maybe I am just complaining because I die to heartbeat sensors more than any single other thing in the game, or that my personal preferences are unavailable to me, but to be in a postion where you are utterly fucked if somebody on the other team likes looking at red dots on minimaps (either on the HUD or on his gun) seems grossly unfair. You are at a huge disadvantage under level 30 because you are so weak to air support and things that give your location away to the enemy.

I think that's especially true for people who've been playing since launch. Whilst there were people ranking up a lot faster than me, at the start it was a more level playing field than if you prestige today, lose all the better perks and weapons, and find yourself without Cold-blooded, Ninja Pro, Scavenger and so on.

Too many people run Ninja for the HBS to be worth it in my opinion. And if they are not running Ninja Po you can hear the footsteps of regular Ninja users and non-users anyway.

Ninja Pro is wonderful. I use the audio cues a lot to help work out where enemies are. I love being able to run around on the metal walkways in utter silence, before stabbing a hapless sniper in the back :)

I found the SPAS to be a little crap too. Sneaking up on people and shooting them only to have them turn round and blow you away. AA 12 all the way for me now :D

The SPAS 12 is lovely. I always try to aim down the sights, and I've racked up over 300 kills with it since I prestiged a short while ago.

That's what I rely on, really. Too many Ninja users think it makes them undetectable...hence all the hoohah about people thinking they were getting detected because the bug was showing them on HS screens in kill cams. If you're running Ninja perks, people with HB sensors will cap you all day long anyway. I know I do!

The silent footstep of Ninja Pro is a more worthwhile perk for me, but not enough of one to make it worth running.

:(

How so? Are you referring to people who think it makes them immortal and run about like fools? The whole point of Ninja is that you *don't* show up on the HBS. Whenever I've died to a HBS user the killcam has showed them spot me visually (just like a non HBS user would have done) or I've just run around a corner into them.

That's almost what I mean. My response was to Fazz's belief that people rocking the sensor will be unobservant...it's a classic mistake to make. This is why I think that as a 'perk', not appearing on the HBS screen is of limited value. As I said earlier, the Ninja Pro perk is more valuable, but not enough to make it worth using for me.

EDIT: I must admit I get a particular chuckle after hosing down someone using Ninja/Pro, as I imagine them seeing my HBS on the kill-cam and wailing in frustration...but I imagine Ninja users get much the same feeling when they tag a sensor user!

No, see, I have no way of knowing if someone has an HBS or not, therefore I don't assume anything. My point was that there have been several times when people have run right past me (close enough to stab them) even when I'm not hiding, because they have they have too much to look at, hence they're easy kills.

I don't believe people with HBS' are "unobservant", but I do believe that flicking your eyes between the HBS, the radar, and the main screen sometimes makes them miss obvious targets. I was dependent on the HBS up to my first Prestige, but I now I'm without it and find I die less because I focus on the main screen.

But the harrier strike has an airstrike before it anyway, so it's a 2 for 1 compared to the airstrike.

+ not every match has a player with a rocket launcher, last night I used a harrier strike and got 1 kill with the airstrike and 3 with the harrier before it got shot down.

Yeah, but the harriers have a pretty limited strike compared to the precision airtstrike, you can direct them and they seem to have almost no pause so as to alert the enemy. You do sometimes get a few kills once the harriers are in the air but most of the time now they get shot out the sky almost immediately. I've had a bunch of 0 kills with the harriers of late which is why I've switched. I've even had AC130s knocked out within seconds recently, everyone really should have cold blooded/stinger class to switch to when playing team games.

I notcied something that made me smile last night. We'd just begun a lagfest of a game, and I was running around the map a bit. Ended up being chased by a riot shield guy, and as I turned to face him with him right next to me the game went to the host migration screen. As it was counting down to begin again I got a chance to see the riot guy's 'idle' animations - he gives a sarcastic wave through the shield, then he wags his finger at you. :(

The character models and animations are impressive anyway, but that is a nice touch.

That's fair enough, but in my experience it's used for general direction and proximity...in fact the ping noise is more useful to me than the visual aid. I'm rarely not the winner of the best k/d ratio award in the FFA games I play, so I don't agree that it has an adverse affect on that...for me, anyway.

Yes! The ping. Thats why I use HBS. Stick my headphones on when playing anything with Hardcore and using the HBS is awesome. Normally with speakers the ping isn't always that loud and is drowned out by gunfire so headphones make all the difference somehow.

Not being funny mate but how on earth can you get from 0.77 to 1.01 in one night if your second prestige. That would assume you already have thousands of kills so the amount of kills you need to get to change the balance that much seems ridiculous?

I know it's probably on here somewhere but it's a lot of pages to go through... Is there a rllmuk night on MW2? I'm really up for seeing if squad play (fire teams of 3-4) can beat the billion Rambos running around the maps? Would be interesting to see if playing a team with a mix of perks and weapons could be devastating.... It would be nice not having to have a ground to air weapon because i know my other team mate does.... 4 Shotguns together could also be fun for close quarters.... I am happy to be the riot shield guy who plays bait! My gamertag is padmeisterh if people are up for having a go....

I'm currently 1.62. Its annoying me a bit cos I regularly get 3:1 games, but I'd basically need to get 8000 nore kills without dying once to get my ration to 2 :(

They should show weekly or monthly stats. It'd be a better way of comparing yourself to other players in my opinion. Im lucky to still have less than 3.5k kills so it still moves pretty freely. I'd hate to have such a large number of kills, deaths, accuracy etc that'd it becomes almost impossible to see any movement.

Aye, I started making a note of my stats every couple of weeks. I think they are buried in this thread somewhere.

*edit*

found them:

Dec 10

3757 kills

4328 deaths

0.83 k/d

14 streak

Dec 26

5521 kills

6079 deaths

0.91 k/d

16 streak

Period between Dec 10 & Dec 26:

1946 kills

1751 deaths

1.13 k/d

I'm out at the moment, when I get home I'll update. I doubt anybody else cares, but its interesting to me. :D

I used AKS74U and silencer all the time on CoD4, as the vast majority of maps required you to be in close proximity to the enemy anyway when sneaking, and most assault rifles had rubbish iron sights. In MW2 it seems a little different. Wheras in 4 I would break away from the rest of the team and go in the opposite direction, picking off enemies following the flow of the match, in MW2 as soon as you do that you get team mates spawning around you giving away your position and drawing the battle to you. Annoying! The vector sucks silenced, but is pretty great in certain maps when loud, so to speak. Stealth in this game is more about either camping or ambushing players who aren't concentrating. My total stealth class is with a Tar-21 and silencer and AN Other attachment, usually HBS or FMJ or shotgun. SCAR assault rifle with ACOG and silencer works quite well, but you run out of ammo so quickly that you have to start looking around for other weapons.

The maps are a lot less suited to the way I played CoD4 with SMGs. You have to be aggressive/run and gun with them, rather than sneaky sneaky.

Actually my only complaint with the game is that there are really no great maps. Terminal is probably my favourite. I really hate Karachi partly due to lack of cover in some areas, mostly though because of that huge building - so many times you see an enemy, but if he darts round the corner you would have to trek miles round the map to flank him. Boring.

Quoted for truth; I used to use a suppressed mp5, with the stealthy perk and flashbangs on maps like Creak and the one with the silo doors (Countdown?) running the opposite driection to my team mates and just hurling flashbangs like a prick. The idea being to harrass rather than a stand up fight. But like you say now it seems when I am on my lonesome picking folk off some gunt with a MG turns up and starts hollering "Overhere boys!!". :D

In other news: tried the ACR last night just with iron sights (its up to ACOG by now) and fucking hell.... kill city. Doubt I'll ever go back to optics now. :)

That would be nice. I spent too much of the first month just having fun as a n00b and playing Domination with a view to capturing bases, fool that I was. I gave my deaths column a head start of almost 3,000. On the plus side, such humble beginnings have allowed me to make satisfying progress with my KDR every session. I climbed well over a million places on the leaderboards (for kills and accuracy) during Xmas week, and I imagine the day when I max out and stop being able to improve my position will be the day I begin to lose interest.

Head over to the Online folder and ask to hook up with people there. One of the clans may have a spare place, or get your Gamertag onto the RLLMUKMW2 friends list to see who is playing it at any time.

I echo what people are saying about Prestiging or not. I did it, mainly just to get the extra class slot but I'd have second thoughts about doing it again.

On the plus side, you re-aquaint yourself with some weapons you skipped or didn't get familiar with but the downside is your weakness against air support. Over Christmas I didn't really play with my mates so I relied on randoms for anti-air...it didn't go too well. And I really missed the ACR, which all things considered is the best all-round gun in the game.

My only gripe with the game, now that the 1887's have been nerfed, is that the sub-machine guns are pretty much useless on most maps when compared to an assault rifle + shotgun set-up.

SMG's are still pretty handy on some maps like scrapyard, Favela and Sub Base. I definately use different guns for different maps.

I started my 4th prestige on Monday night and i'm already up to level 25. Thats just playing in the evenings after work. Its fairly tough with the air support, but there is a cold blooded class in the standard classes so you're not COMPLETELY defenceless. I agree with Nayson about the stinger/thumper and the perks though, could use a tweak.

They also really need to patch the care package runners and also make it so that if you're carrying the flag your marathon is disabled, CTF is pretty much broken.

In fact. A list of stuff that should change:

If you join a game thats over half way through then your win or loss shouldnt count in your stats

Sudden death on CTF and Demolition are stupid. Sabotage sudden death works well.

Ninja and cold blooded perks should unlock under level 15.

Switch the thumper and stinger unlocks.

Put marathon and lightweight on the same class slot (debatable)

Stop marathon working with flag carriers

Get red of the care package super run (why is this even in there)

Maybe tweak the spawning on Karachi. Its too easy for the people in the south to get overrun

Thats about all I can think of. Not bad considering how much different content is in there

Need tips:

I'm lv 57 after about 2 days play and after a horrible period before Xmas where I was getting torn apart and losing heavily, I'm back to playing pretty good (2:1 most matches). Thing is, I feel like I'm really having to grind now to level up. Any tips on how to get to level 70 without simply having to 750 kills every assault rifle?

Nudged my accuracy up to 23.25% this evening which I'm pleased about with my K/D ration back to 1.30 from 1.28.

I'd recommend anyone to try sticking with iron sights at least with the FAMAS. Sure the red dot is a comfy nice to have but I've been pulling long distance shots from afar with just a silencer attached to my weapon. The iron sights is much better than in MW and should anyone use EMP then you're not shooting blind effectively.

I'm only level 24 but I've kind of stuck with the Famas due to it being almost a sniper rifle when zoomed with red dot. Is it worth experimenting with any of the others?

Well, yes. There are a lot of great weapons in the game. RPD with grip and red dot/holo is a beast, or try the pretty great SCAR-H with scavenger, for a start.
