Another detroit classic....some lovely vocal sounds here doing the rounds. All out of tune too.

But it almost epitomises Detroit really.

Not as good as Carl Craigs "Piece" though, despite being on the same LP.

The only techno track i can think of to sample a pop record (the reflex) and sound AMAZING.

An absolute stomper of a track before gabba and all that shit. Up there with Six Nine's Frequency finale (yeah, the one with the Visage sample) as best Carl Craig tune ever.

Can't find either on YT though.

Could almost be an early Warp Records release that.

Its could be. It does sound a little like Mark Bell, but that vocal is pure detroit. Its kinda wrong and out of tune but in an alien kinda way.

No one does tracks like this anymore. I don't mind straight up strings/chords, but certain old detroit tracks have a musical "wrongness" about them that just work.

Its quite raw as well - the use of the sample isn't "clean" as such so its done live i think, and all probably running off that 808 i'd guess so has that loose timing feel.

There's some fucking bangers on the new Matthew Herbert album "One Club", which is produced entirely from samples recorded over the course of a night at Robert Johnson Nightclub in Offenbach.

(Takes a minute or so to get going)

Listen to the album on Spotify.

Has he produced reasonably straight Techno before? I saw him DJ at the beginning of the year and it was pretty much all hard 90s techno. I've only really heard his jazzier and pop albums, which are also wonderful and have similarly restrictively defined self-imposed sample sources.

His current live show is supremely hatstand also, highly entertaining - the only live dance set I've seen with a washing line, ladder and tent on stage whilst he buzzes around and jerks in time to the music.

He's produced every other genre of music, so it was only a matter of time before he did some Techno.

I must admit I listened to the album on Spotify, and didn't like any of it. His Deep House music he produced with his first albums are miles better than this.

A little "detroitian" project with nice chords, a pitch bent voice and various layers - part 6 of my Atom Age series of demo's.

http://soundcloud.com/afterbirth-productions/aa0006-x-ray

Sadly Cubase does weird shit to my tracks when i export as Mp3's - hence the reason for the voice dynamics stuttering. Something i must investigate.

Not bad at all, but I don't like the bit where it speeds up.
