Fallout: New Vegas

Nice. Just had another thought on that quest - on my game I'd already wiped out the Van Graffs ages before I even stepped foot near the Brotherhood, so since taking them out is Hardin's task for you when he becomes elder, maybe if you've already taken them out the game gets confused and simply won't allow Hardin to become elder? Anyone else done it that way?

I'd hit the VG's way before ever meeting the BoS, yeah, but the wiki suggests that even so you'd still be able to install hardin as head honcho no problem, so long as you haven't already completed mcnamaras quest first. However, you are then probably unable to complete hardins follow on quest, unless you et a lucky bodge, so the wiki says anyway.

Looks like I'm also stuck in the BoS quest then,

Makes no sense why that would casue a bug... Even if you do it the "right way" but have followed a pretty logical path at the start of the game, Start town to Primm to Mojave outpost chances are you will have met the VG well before you even hear about the BoS. Infact there's probably three quests I had which involved the VG which I had before I came across the BoS.

I still love it but some of the major bugs are terrible. Although I had a funny one when I fast travelled to the gun runners to punt the latest loot. As soon as it loaded I took one step forward and the game lauched my character a couple of hundred feet into the air before dropping me to my death......

I;ve also accdently sided with the legion which seems quite interesting so far although Im not sure how Im going to play it hopefully I can annoy the legion to the point where they hate me as much as the NCR and then see how the game plays out......

There's a blocked entrance south westish from Primm that interested me, loads of grafiti on the wreckage that's very specific in it's reference to

Courier 6

. There's also the locked gate at the back of Mojave Outpost, they're blatantly putting something back there :P

hehe, I was wandering around the cliffs near Camp Forlorn Hope and noticed a spot on the eastern side of the river where I could climb up. Swam over and wandered around. Nothing there other than a shitload of dethclaws, made good use of my .50 cal putting them down.

I'm all but finished now, I never seemed to find a shotgun I liked, they all seemed too weak. Got a nice one for the egg collecting mission but by then there was nothing much left to kill with it.

Frankly these bugs are starting to get on my nerves. The game may have some great scripting and sense of place, but in Fallout 3 I never needed to refer to a fucking guide to get my seemingly broken quest back on the rails.

Bad show really.

I gave up on it, so to speak - for a while.

Hopefully things will be sorted out with a patch or two but New Vegas has been a huge disappointment.

My NCR storyline has ground to a seemingly insurmountable halt.

I've protected the president from assassination, but now get no new missions to continue the quest. There's no-one on the map to speak to, and the quest requirements are all shown as complete. I can't speake to Moore, as she's now behind a door that requires a key to unlock. Apparently, this is because I completed the quests relating to the Omerta's on The Strip before beginning the For The Republic quest. Brilliant... <_<

I've loaded up an old save now to do the Caesar missions, but the NCR storyline will require an even older save to resolve. I don't know if I can be arsed - the sheer number of bugs (and more annoyingly, the game freezing and requiring a re-boot of the 360) are making it a chore. It's some testament to the enjoyable aspects that I've put in the best part of 70 hours play so far.

Has anyone else found the clipping bug in the railway tunnel near Nellis Airbase? There's a series of maintenance rooms halfway down the tunnel, but if you try to enter, you clip through the floor and under the gameworld before getting put back to the tunnel entrance. Amusingly, any ghouls you lure into the same area suffer the same fate (except they respawn wherever they originally came from) :).

Are these the kind of things the upcoming console patch will iron out for you? Apart from a couple of creatures stuck in the floor and last night a crash, the PC version has been a joy for me.

Shit I've stayed out of this thread, but I was going to buy the game on 360 soon, is it fucked then? :(

Depends on luck more than anything. I had one crash and one NPC typing at an invisible computer in 50 hours. Now though my companions are playing up so I am stuck on some quests. Others are getting much worse, some none at all.

Hey, we can only hope I suppose. I agree that it's a bit off for Bethesda to be pimping it's first batch of dlc when it's own forums are full of people who saves/progress is borked.

PC patch was released last week or so, 360 patch is apparently going through cert. and should be available "within weeks".

The second big PC patch, that was. :P Certification is surely one of the worst things.

I loved the game, but man, it needs cleaning up before you start shovelling more of it out (remembers what happened to the relatively rock-solid F3, post DLC).

HEY! Shovels!

I knew I'd forgotten something......has anyone gotten hold of one to dig graves up with? I've only ever seen one in a shack, and was unable to collect it.

Also, I think I've fucked up the NCR questline too by the sounds of it. I did the omoerta stuff aaaaages ago. Fuck.

Still, dlc. :)

I'm not optimistic, TBH. Even post-patch the PC version is still a bit of a mess by all accounts, and with MS and Sony charging for updates (I think? I'm sure there's a tariff for delivering updates) don't expect the game to ever be winnably fixed.

Heck, FO3 and the entire DLC collection were released on PS3 and they only ever patch that once, a week after the original release, and that was only because the game ground to a halt every time a PS3 OS notification came up on screen. How do you miss that?! When the GOTY edition came out I'm sure they could've tested a patch to release with that to address the vanilla version bugs, but it actualyl made it ten times worse.

Think of all the lost DLC sales from people dumping the buggy game. They didn't care then, I doubt they'll care now. Don't get me wrong, I loved FO3 and I'm loving New Vegas, and there's plenty of fun for my £40, but they need to be taken to task over this.

You should be able to buy a shovel from Chet in the Goodsprings store, or you can get one for free from one of the water supply points Sunny Smiles takes you to during the tutorial mission to kill Geckos (I can't remember which spring the shovel is at, but there's one at one of them).

They can be found in other places but Goodsprings is the most readily available location I know of.

What's this review process patches have to go through that actual full price games apparently don't have to anyway? And what does it even involve when the first patch presumably must have passed, and it's demonstrably the buggiest game ever to hit consoles?

I thought I'd start a new game earlier thinking that the bugs only really kick in later on, and if I pace myself that the patch should be out by then. Complete freeze-up the moment I wander in to Goodsprings. Controller this close to being hurled through the TV.

That's the thing. It's easy to be cynical and say they don't care about their customers experiencing a few bugs. But surely when you total up how bugs influence review scores, the word of mouth about them after release, and like you say the harm it must do to future DLC sales, it simply can't be in their interest financial or otherwise to release a game this broken, can it?

Right, picture the scene:

Level 30, maxed gun skills, and I step out of the BoS bunker with some mint condition t51-b armour fresh off the shelf. Veronica has my cast off t48 and a paladin toaster.

Meanwhile I'm loaded up with a freshly refurbished avenger minigun and half my bodyweight in 5mm ammo, this machine for ranged work and a silenced 12.7mm as a fucking beefy sidearm.

Off I trot, ready to lay waste to the first unlucky bastard to cross my path.....and within moments of hitting the valley floor I get ganked by 3 deathclaws.

Lesson learnt, some things are deadly in any situation.

I did the Deathclaw cave the other day having left it for soooo long after getting ripped a new one every time I entered. So this time, at Lvl 30 (on Hard) and with Veronica kitted out with BoS power armour and carrying a big fuck-off heavy gun, we entered feeling quite confident. Ended up with Veronica dying 3 times and me 5. The Deathclaw mother scared the hell out on me but when I stumbled into an area containing a Legendary Deathclaw I managed to say, "WHAT THE FU....", before it leapt at me killing me in 2 swipes. I only managed to take that bastard down after using two bottlecap mines (doing 230-odd damage each!), about 17 magnum sniper shots, and at least 8 shots from Veronica's 'BFG'.

Deathclaws freak me out.

Where's this .50 cal that every one goes on about? I've got the normal sniper and This Machine and recently the Trail Carbine which seems alright but I've never come across the .50, I see the Gunrunners sell the ammo but no dice with the thing that fires it...

Incidentally, I've found 75 locations and done 50 or so missions so it's not like I've just wandered over to Primm and having a hissy fit that I can't find a big gun.

Another fun bug similar to the one in Nellis AFB, there's a rock near Neil's Shack, by the first 'checkpoint' up to Black Mountain which I got stuck in, couldn't fast travel because "no fast travel when falling or jumping" (I'm stuck still in the fucking scenery thanks.) I try the old frag mine your way out of it for my mine to go rolling away but what's this, I can move! woo... oh.... I'm stuck inside the rock now, can see out of it, super mutant looking at me, can't shoot him, can't fast travel cos an enemy is nearby. FFFUUUUUUU! Thankfully Ed-E and Veronica came and sorted him out and I fast travelled back to Neils Shack.

It is a bit too much of a mess to be honest, it's not like it needed to be rushed out or anything did it?
