Below in the spoiler tags is a comprehensive method of re installing Forza 3 from original version to Ultimate edition

I, like many of you, am a VIP and have every DLC pack in the game. Wondering what the best way to install the Ultimate Collection and have it work with my previous installs on my multiple xboxes I did some research and trials and here is what I came up with. Hopefully this will answer a very common question without having to dig through hundreds of pages of forum posts.

My game save and all the gamertag specific files are kept on a USB memory unit so none of those files are referenced here. As a RULE, any file referencing your gamertag should be LEFT ALONE! This will prevent any trouble resuming where you left off in the game.

On the hard drive of my console there exists the following 17 files which comprises the complete install of the game and all DLC packs released up to the release of the Ultimate Collection. They are found on your console from the dashboard here: My Xbox --> System Settings --> Memory --> Hard Drive --> Games --> Forza Motorsport 3. The 17 files in alphabetical order are:

American Car Pack (Part of the original installation)

April DLC Pack (This is the Exotic Car Pack DLC)

Asian Car Pack (Part of the original installation)

AutoWeek Car Show Pack (DLC)

European Car Pack (Part of the original installation)

Forza Motorsport 3 Disc 1 (If you installed your Disc 1 to play from the Hard Drive)

Hot Holidays Car Pack (DLC)

Hyundai Car Pack (A free DLC shortly after the game shipped)

Jalopnik Car Pack (DLC)

June DLC Pack (This is the World Class Car Pack DLC)

March DLC Pack (This is the Road and Track Car Pack DLC)

Motorsport Legends Car and Track Pack (DLC included with new retail copies of the game)

Nurburgring Gran Prix Circuit Track Pack (DLC)

Pre-Order Car Pack (This is the Audi R8 5.2 Community Edition DLC given for preorders)

Road Racing Track Pack (October DLC - Benchmark and Sidewinder tracks)

The Summer Velocity Car Pack (DLC)

VIP Car Pack (LCE exclusive DLC now available to everyone)

The following files may be deleted since they are included in the Ultimate Collection:

April DLC Pack (This is the Exotic Car Pack DLC)

AutoWeek Car Show Pack (DLC)

Hot Holidays Car Pack (DLC)

Jalopnik Car Pack (DLC)

June DLC Pack (This is the World Class Car Pack DLC)

March DLC Pack (This is the Road and Track Car Pack DLC)

Motorsport Legends Car and Track Pack (DLC included with new retail copies of the game)

Nurburgring Gran Prix Circuit Track Pack (DLC)

Road Racing Track Pack (October DLC - Benchmark and Sidewinder tracks)

The Summer Velocity Car Pack (DLC)

You can also delete the following files as they will be re-installed by the Ultimate Collection the first time you run it:

American Car Pack (Part of the original installation)

Asian Car Pack (Part of the original installation)

European Car Pack (Part of the original installation)

Therefore you will be left with the following files:

Forza Motorsport 3 Disc 1 (If you installed your Disc 1 to play from the Hard Drive)

Hyundai Car Pack (A free DLC shortly after the game shipped)

Pre-Order Car Pack (This is the Audi R8 5.2 Community Edition DLC given for preorders)

VIP Car Pack (LCE exclusive DLC now available to everyone)

Do not delete the "Forza Motorsport 3 Disc 1" file if you want to continue playing from your original Forza 3 or LCE game disks. If you want to play from the Ultimate collection disc but install it to the hard drive for better performance then delete this file as it is tied to your original copy of the game. Then from the dashboard install the Ultimate collection disc 1 by pressing "Y" after inserting the disc when the promp to press "A" to play game pops up. Wait a moment and the prompt to press "Y" for Game Details will pop up. The following screen walks you through installing the game disc to the hard drive.

I chose to leave the "Forza Motorsport 3 Disc 1" file so I could play from my original (non UC) game discs. At this point put the Ultimate Collection Disc 1 into the tray and press "A" to play game. The game will load from the DVD drive. At the prompt to install disc 2 do so. When the install is complete and the game is prompting you to press "A" to begin, simply quit to the dashboard.

Looking again at the files on your hard drive you will see that the Ultimate Collection installed/re-installed the following files:

American Car Pack (Part of the original installation)

Asian Car Pack (Part of the original installation)

European Car Pack (Part of the original installation)

Forza Ultimate Car Pack 1 (Ultimate Collection of previous DLC)

Forza Ultimate Car Pack 2 (Ultimate Collection of previous DLC)

Forza Ultimate Car Pack 3 (Ultimate Collection of previous DLC)

Forza Ultimate Track Pack (Ultimate Collection of previous DLC)

At this point you can sign in to Xbox LIVE and redeem the code for Stig's Garage Car Pack. This will add the following file to the others:

Stig's Car Pack (New DLC)

You can also redeem the codes for the Top Gear Theme and the Top Gear Video Feature but these files will be put in the "Themes" and "Videos" folders respectively. At this point, if you did not delete your original "Forza Motorsport 3 Disc 1" game install, you can put your original Disc 1 into the tray and play the game from the hard drive. The original game disc will recognize the new DLC files from the Ultimate Collection and you may use your old game save and all the associated files for tunings, replays, paints etc. If, however, you plan to use the Ultimate Collection Disc 1 to play the game then you should delete the old game install and re-install it from the Ultimate Collection Disc 1. Otherwise, even though you installed the original to the hard drive, the Ultimate Collection will run from the DVD drive. Also note, that once you install the Ultimate Collection Disc 1 to the hard drive you will not be able to use the original disc as it will also run from the DVD drive. Apparently, the installed disc on the hard drive is smart enough to know if it came from an original disc or the Ultimate Collection. However, I did note that the xbox will install both versions to the hard drive and keep them in the same folder with the same name so maybe that's how you could use either disc. I didn't take the chance at confusing the console and possibly corrupting my game save so maybe I'll try it later with a different game save. I'll keep you posted on that.

So, in the end you should have the following files on your hard drive:

American Car Pack (Part of the original installation)

Asian Car Pack (Part of the original installation)

European Car Pack (Part of the original installation)

Forza Motorsport 3 Disc 1 (If you installed your Disc 1 to play from the Hard Drive)

Forza Ultimate Car Pack 1 (Ultimate Collection of previous DLC)

Forza Ultimate Car Pack 2 (Ultimate Collection of previous DLC)

Forza Ultimate Car Pack 3 (Ultimate Collection of previous DLC)

Forza Ultimate Track Pack (Ultimate Collection of previous DLC)

Hyundai Car Pack (A free DLC shortly after the game shipped)

Pre-Order Car Pack (This is the Audi R8 5.2 Community Edition DLC given for preorders)

Road Racing Track Pack (Benchmark and Sidewinder tracks)

Stig's Car Pack (New DLC)

VIP Car Pack (LCE exclusive DLC now available to everyone)

13 files in all plus whatever files are referenced to your gamertag (5 files) and the ghosts file. I realize this was extremely long winded but I think there was a need for this info. In the end, the final list of files means that because there is still DLC here not included with the Ultimate Collection (Hyundai, Pre-Order, Stig's, and VIP) you must still be signed into LIVE when you want to play from your second console or at a friends house since those licenses are tied to your Console ID and Gamertag. Let me know if I missed anything and Good Racing!

This should help anyone upgrading.

I'll have Forza and all those extras for less than £12?!

I am so so happy about the Nürburgring GP pack. I hadn't looked into what was included (I just wanted Forza so that I could join in) and that was the add-on that I was interested in. Happy, happy, happy!

I'll probably step into the Racing folder once the game's here, Boozy. I can hopefully gather 'tags there and see if there's any trials running and free grid slots whenever I happen to be well enough for a bit. I've only had minimal on-line experience through Gotham 2 and GT Legends. That must have been back in 2005 or 2006 at the latest with GT Legends, so to say that anticipation is high now is something of an understatement!

"I can't wait!" isn't a bad feeling to have as I look forty squarely in the monocle! :blah::wub:

If I buy the new version of Forza 3, can I get access to the DLC on my existing copy of Forza 3? Before you think I'm an idiot, my existing copy is NTSC so I was wondering if I could just use the same save and version I have and download the DLC for free?

Or can I port my save across to my PAL machine and carry on like that? Or...what?

Or should I just get an NTSC copy and be done with it.

I don't know about the differences between NTSC and PAL versions but assuming they are compatible you simply keep your save files ( These will have your gamertag next to them on your hard drive) and delete everything else. (Except VIP and Limited Collector edition DLC) and the new discs have all the cars and tracks on them. The old disc and new discs aren't compatible if installed so you delete the old ones and install the Ultimate edition discs as these have all the cars on them. the only DLC with the ultimate edition is the Stig's Car Pack (which is 3 cars).

Also note you can't copy your save files you can only move them via USB or Data transer cable.

Loving the Community Classics Pack. Definitely my favourite car pack so far, and there's an OnlineRaceDriver.com project Volvo I need to get tuning...

Incidentally, spotted the older car packs are half price on Xbox Live this week, 200 MS Points each. Sadly I don't think the Nurburgring is included :(

Turns out that if you've already downloaded the Community Choice Classics DLC, there's a multiplayer collision bug, and to fix it, you'll need to delete the DLC pack and re-download it. Handy instructions for re-installing FM3 DLC

I had a couple of funny instances of cars going through each other online the other day, didn't do many races in them though so just put it down to lag or someone getting the lobby settings wrong.

My shiny platter of spangly digital goodness arrived a little while ago. Nothing like leaving it 'til the last minute!

I've added a mention in the Positano II thread in the hope of it grabbing the attention of the regulars in particular. It's installing at the moment and I expect that even optimistically, it'll be extremely late tonight before I can even take a look. As I said in the other post though, I'll be keeping an eye out for upcoming events and will join in with the TT as soon as I can.

Is there a 900 degree wheel that will work with the 360?

I have a G25 in the other room that I can't use :(

Completed season 6 today. Absolutely nothing other than an achivement to show for it! Got 2 achievements left now.

Yeah, i got a Fanatec wheel that does 360 & PS3 - using G25 pedals with it!

T10 have sent out a christmas gift for those with the Communtiy Classics pack. A festively painted Ferrari 250 Cali.

Forza144.jpg

Not that I don't appreciate the free car, but I think that paint job will have to go :hmm:

Did the R2 World Champ race at Motegi yesterday and eventually managed to secure victory over the AI who once again seriously upped their game there. It was a bloody close race for sure.

:o

I'm stunned!

I'll try to return with a bit more sense than those two words over the weekend - no doubt with lots of good things to say about my little time with Forza so far and not least including the control and 'feel' that I was used to with PC games up until a few years ago seemingly being right here.

Wow!
