Pokemon Gold and Silver to be remade?

Which one does everyone find themselves drawn to?

I generally always used to get the one that I assumed would be least attractive to the majority. So, Blue, Silver, Leaf Green, Pearl, and now Silver again no doubt. I figure this way you get more people with the other version to trade with.

Not that it really matters anymore since you can complete a Pokédex way too easily over the internet. I used to like it when it was a real challenge to catch everything. I got all but one on Ruby, that was awesome. My step-brother never caught the legendary from Sapphire :)

You're missing the vital fact that since the original 150, and to a certain extent the second 130ish which were added to gold/silver, the Pokemon have been complete shit and terribly designed. The games were far better when it was even remotely possible to keep track of most of the Pokemon you could catch.

This. The new Pokémon in Pearl/Diamond were just all blue. It was boring.

GAME is having a Pokemon HS/SS event at some of their stores over the next month in the UK:

http://www.game.co.uk/lowdown.aspx?lid=131...av-_-storeevent

Take your DS and a copy of Pokemon D/P to a participating GAME to grab the pokemon Arceus too.

Serebii.net also mentions that a special Pichu will be available to download for Pokemon D/P from the 5th March:

Transfer this Pichu to Pokemon HS/SS for another unique Pichu.

I'm getting at least one version just for the Pokewalker. You've done it again, Nintendo, you shrewd devils!

I say at least one version (I currently have Heartgold preordered) because Amazon is doing exclusive 3D case editions, so I might pick up Soulsilver like that. At least it's bound to keep its value if I never get around to playing it. But does anyone have more information on these 3D cases? Common sense dictates that they've just stuck a lenticular front on the box but the listing says it only weighs 118g compared to 182g for the regular edition.

I've no idea what the 3D cases are and even Amazon don't know going by the comments in this thread on their site

"Dear Customer, Thank you for writing to Amazon.co.uk with your enquiry. From the e-mail, I can understand that you wish to know the difference between these items "Pokemon HeartGold - 3D Case Edition (Nintendo DS)" and "Pokemon SoulSilver (Nintendo DS)". After looking into your enquiry I found that there was no further information available about the difference between these items. At present, the only information we can give you about the particular item is what we display on the detail page for that item. Perhaps you could check our website again and again for more information. We do appreciate that sometimes the amount of information we have may make it difficult to make a purchasing decision unless you already know something about the item. I appreciate your high understanding in this case."

I've pre-ordered my copies from Game for the free figurines now they've reduced the pre-order price to £30 the same as everywhere else.

Been playing the US* versions (got both, but Gold will be the main cart).

Lovingly remade, but the redesigned options menu and Pokedex annoy, since they're forcing touchscreen crap on you, in the formers case it just makes things a little bit slower (to save and such), the latter, the Pokedex is now like a grid calendar, which makes browsing it faster, but...feels less fancy/posh as a result (compared to previous dexes), you don't even need to click a poke to see its text, now. Bah.

On the way to the third gym.

*Even my original Red was US version, so I saw no reason to break the trend. JP/US DS boxes are much nicer, anyway.

EDIT:Pokewalker is amusingly more fun then you first realise. Assuming you actually, uh, plan on walking regularly with it on you.

Been playing SoulSilver, sounds like I'm at about the same place! Agreed about the touch screen, it's pretty horrible. Most irritating when you don't realise it's open and press A to talk to someone or something. And I can't believe there's still some rubbish carried over from the original Pokémon games, like how awful arranging Pokémon in PC boxes is, that could be streamlined so much.

Still, it's awesome.

The Pokéwalker could be better though. I feel like I'm wasting steps when I go for a walk because once a Pokémon levels up once it stops earning experience until you transfer it back to the DS and then to the PW again. Haven't tried the other stuff yet, I've been collecting watts to open new courses so far. Not sure if you spend them in the PW they're not there to transfer back to the DS so they don't count towards the routes.

Got mine yesterday, level 100! It's insanely powerful

But you don't need to use the touch screen at all.

I've been playing this too (well I had the JP HeartGold but could only get so far) and it is just brilliant. The Pokegear should be the Poketch and is a step backwards in that regard. Otherwise it is just excellent.

Oh and remember to use the 'Move Pokemon' option at Bill's PC.

Noticed that about the Watts, indeed, the more you use on the pokewalker itself (to catch pokemon/find items), the less Watts you'll have to transfer over.

The pokemon itself can only level once per walk? Bummer.

I presume that's to stop someone sticking it on top of their washing machine and levelling a pokemon up to max within an hour.

I doubt I'll get back into the scene and play this competitively again, but I'll definitely get the English version the moment it comes out. It's that lovely.

There's only one thing I really care about, and that's atmosphere. Is it closer in feel to Gold/Silver, or the newer Diamond etc? Also, is the colour palette as soft and pastel as it first seemed from previews? Diamond and Pearl were a bit too primary coloured for my liking.

I really liked Silver, but I still feel the sense of fatigue with the franchise that set in 2/3rds of the way through Sapphire. In both Blue & Silver I started out as rookie trainer with my go-to Pokemon who I made as powerful as possible through training/vitamins/TM's (Squirtle in Blue & Furret in Silver) & together we worked our way all the way to the top while catching a huge number of the worlds Poke-population. Doing this all over again for a 3rd time in Sapphire just didn't feel as enjoyable & I couldn't really get into doing the same working my way up the ladder thing again.

It was for this reason i never even played the DS versions, but I feel i'll probably get back into it again at some point & by then the games will have a number of refinements & much better experiences than the still rather clunky & dated GB/GBA iterations.

It's a lot closer to Gold/Silver's atmosphere. The music can be quite dark - Ilex forest's music is particularly menacing of what I've seen so far. Wind and rain also seem quite prevalent, which adds to it of course. Some of the towns look gorgeous with their autumnal leaves etc.

It's essentially a series you can dip in and out of whenever you feel that itch, and instantly know what you need to do. And yeah, this has been prodded and poked until it's just about the most polished, refined, content rich and enjoyable of the series to date. It's no big evolution, but the Pokéwalker's a nice little gimmick and the game is just as compelling and deep as it ever was.

Pokemon Silver was definitely my favorite. The world seemed much bigger than Red and Blue and there was so much to do and see. However I don't want to play it again any time soon, the memory is still pretty fresh in my mind.

Probably go back and finish Diamond.

I'm getting SoulSilver as an easter present  I put the pre-order in myself though (reward points!) - getting it from Game with the Lugia figurine  Won't be playing until Saturday at least though.

I played the original Blue to death, then moved onto Silver which I also loved. Can't remember really being too into Sapphire and I skipped LeafGreen/Fire Red and Diamond/Pearl/Platinum entirely.

Looking forward to getting back into the series on my shiny new XL

I can't work out if I like Voltorb Flip at all, the game that replaces the slot machines. When I start playing it I can't stop, but it's so frustrating. It's genius when it works and you can solve it but sometimes you end up in a Minesweeper-esque situation of having a 50% chance of winning/losing.

Played it enough to win the three Pokémon from it, I hope they can't be found in the wild or I'll feel like I've wasted a lot of time

It's very rare you end up with that situation if you know exactly how to read it, but yeah, it can happen and it's annoying when it drops you down a level for fucking up when you have no option but to guess. That's arguably part of its genius, though - it keeps you playing because you want to beat the fucker.

You can get an Abra in the wild, not so sure about the other two. Not played enough to get Dratini yet.
