So I’ve got this 1080p panny, and I’m slowly putting together a retro corner

currently slap bang in front of the sofa, too close to play driving games comfortably.

Working my way backwards, I’ve added a ps3 (hdmi) and a Dreamcast (vga-hdmi).

Spoiler

Next up I have a PS2 and ogXbox (one component cable, switched) ready to go, may try the ps2 with an hdmi converter.
Then it’s a retron NesHD and a lack of space.

After that I have to look at the OSSC for the rest of the collection, or break out my cheap-arse upscaler.

mmm...

It's not really the whole thing just proud I managed to get my commodore family together on a surface without swapping out machines every time I want to type in a listing :D The first three machines I ever owned (ok not these actual ones) and I got them all together without swapping over before any of them died (the VIC is a little tempremental the poor old girl and I will not like it when she dies).

Original Vic20

Original C64

Original A1200 with with blizzard 1230IV card with 32 mb of ram and a 3.1 gig HD (crazy overpwoered really for what I need)

I love it I can have any one of them switched on - I can load games from tape (and I do that quite a bit) or I can use the SD card interface for when I am feeling lazy :)

I can access all keyboards for type in listings I find!

I am not sure I can add to this perfect recreation of my childhood!

IMG_0663.JPG

EDIT - I know it is very modest compared to some and I have some other bits and bobs around but I have ummed and ahhed enough and I play games on these three beauties daily.

EDIT EDIT - if anyone knows how to ensure a long lived VIC20 without emulation or fpga then let me know :D

A fine sight!  There is room for improvement though.

What you could do is bin the Commodores and have a CPC464, a CPC6128 and a GX4000 in their places instead.  May as well go the whole hog and add an Atari Jaguar while you're at it.

This advice is gratis, but my retro gaming consultation services are available to anyone for a modest fee.

that is odd , you said improvement and then went on to describe a descent into Hades itself...

The image you have depicted will give me nightmares for days sir... a CPC? (dry heaves)

EDIT - I would take the Atari Jaguar if a copy of Tempest2000 was welded into the cartridge slot so I was never tempted to play literally anything else on it :D

I know nothing about Vic-20s but you can prolong your C64's life by not using an original PSU. They're a time bomb. That said, good alternatives aren't cheap.

So I would start by googling to find out if Vic PSUs have similar problems.

I already have a replacement c64 psu - one bought from poland which seems popular it has worked for a while now and doesnt get too hot and I believe has failure points for over voltage

I will look for vic20 ones.

How do Amstrad prices compare to Commodore or Spectrum stuff now? I'd assume that they have less of a following so are more affordable, but could be wrong.

Well c64 you can pick up for 60-100 either breadbin or c depending on what’s in the package

vic20 50-80 ish

but there were loads around I guess cpc is pricier

amiga no idea the 1200 is expensive I think and mine has 3gighd and blizzard 030 IV 32mb card - it cost me 120 quid ten years ago

id rather have a plain a1200 but the floppies are too unreliable

tapes about 90% of those I buy work.

Honestly, I don’t know. I have a 464 but I haven’t used it in years.  I’m in a couple of groups so do know that there’s a thriving Amstrad ‘scene’ and that people are pushing the hardware beyond what anyone ever thought possible so I should probably set it up and have a look. But I’ll most likely never get around to it with all the modern gaming to be done right now.

The pluses were always pricey.

Right then. Time to disassemble the test rig (NES, Saturn, N64, AES, and Jaguar not show)

any time now...

see, I’m thinking if I run everything off a surge protected trailing socket, they’ll all be protected? Not that it’ll all be turned on at the same time. I might get individually switched trailing sockets.

Also the AV isn’t quite finished. I mean I can play the games, on any of the consoles, but it’s a mix of s-video, component, RGB SCART, and HDMI. So I’m always looking to get a better picture, which means I won’t do the trunking immediately.

In case it changes.

Also, if I get the house rewired...

sake!

Going to make the wife use her two weeks of annual leave to go through the remaining boxes in the spare room.

I’ve done my part with the shredding, and the sorting, and the taking to the dump yard. Got all my stuff in plastic boxes.

Now it’s all the stuff I figured I better not touch. Cardboard boxes, from when we moved here 8 years ago...

I had to postpone setting this up after doing my back in. The joys of being in my 40s! Until yesterday the Aero City was dumped in the middle of the floor. Next up is sorting some proper shelving for my CRT and consoles! I'm thinking Ikea Ivars and some painting!

Do those Aero City machines just come with one game ?

Some lovely games on the Atomiswave. Hokuto no Ken has a pretty much permanent spot in one of my arcade cabs.

the only fist of the north star game I played was the fighting mania arcade cabinet with the six punchpads

Never played any Atomiswave stuff myself! I must check it out.

Im currently waiting on a Ghouls N Ghosts bootleg to arrive. Couldn’t justify the price of an original, but typically as soon as I buy the boot, a few CPS1 conversions from who knows what show up for a similar price.

They had one of those Fighting Mania's in the Namco Station in the Trafford Centre years ago. The Atomiswave game is a beautiful 1v1 fighter by Arc System Works. Highly recommend it if you can find a way to play it. The Atomiswave cart is pretty expensive now.
