Halo: Reach

Did you pull back to cancel Sprint as you fell? That's what the RoosterTeeth vid posted before said to do.

SWAT being seperated is good as it gets voted way too much. I usually do better in it than normal though, maybe due to the CoD effect.

Dropouts and the resulting connection screens are annoying too, and seem to happen with almost every drop. Can Bungie's setup just not handle joining mid-game or would that break the whole system?

I haven't resorted to bcassing just yet, but I might soon if those American kids keep voting for infection

What's your tag Gerbik? You're more than welcome to come and get some games on with the boys.

Is anyone up for some games tonight? I'm a bit ill and all my housemates are going out, so I'm definitely going to be hitting up Reach. I'd very much like to play some team slayer or objective with people who will actually attempt to work together, but I'd be up for anything really. Never really played Halo with people from the forum before, so it would be a nice change.

I'm going to be around from about 9ish if anyone is interested.

My gamertag is

Darth Asthma

Ok, one of those 'organise my gaming' posts.

I have Halos 3, ODST and Reach (I have completed 1 and 2). I started 3 but cannot remember where I am. It was ages ago. I haven't started Odst or Reach. So, going by which games are best, if I was to play a Halo game now, which one would you go for?

Personally I found Reach to be the most entertaining of the 3. I thought it was like the best bits of Halo 3 without any filler and a few small extras. Halo 3 was good fun in parts, although it dragged in certain places (usually anything involving the flood). I never got on with ODST at all.

Reach. You don't need to know the story from the others, as it's set before them, and it's the best of the ones you haven't played. That said, if you enjoy it I'd also go back and play 3 and ODST as well, as they're excellent games.

Having started Reach's campaign again and seen the scope for alternative approaches, I think it might go down as a stone-cold classic. I do love 3's campaign - apart from the last two levels it's uniformly excellent, with zero dips. But Reach has Elites. It also has probably the best weapon and enemy set of all the games. The only downer is your team-mates.

Are achievements in this utterly buggered? I went through mission 2 on easy just now (yeah yeah, I know, but achievement whoring is a nice way to relax when hungover and I've finished it on Heroic) and killed more than 7 Moa's (assume they're the birds anyway). No achievement. Also completed the mission without using vehicles (apart from the aircraft you have to take), no achievement. Loaded up mission 3 at the first rally point and destroyed both Wraiths with 1 blast from the target locator, no achievement. :(

Achievements won't unlock on easy.

Right someone needs to tell me how to do the "If you cam to hear me beg" achievement. I can jump down on the Elite and assassinate him 1 in every 2 or 3 times, but still no achievement. What am I doing wrong?!

I must have done it 7 or 8 times now and it's still not unlocked, it's driving me mad.

I spent about an hour trying to get that one. It seems to be really particular about it. You have to sprint off the cliff, and turn off the sprint just before you land on the Elite. If you don't the jump is survivable and so it doesn't count.

DId Winter Contingency and Sword Base on Heroic with Iron Skull today - managed them both first time, which I'm quite proud of. WC was a piece of piss but there were some hairy moments on Sword Base.

I almost drove over a cliff with a full Warthog on the AA gun bit (just behind the building where the objective switch is), but just about managed to keep it teetering on the edge. I left Kat and a marine there on the gun, and it turned out to be the perfect place for them to cover me while I went in and cleared out the gun control room.

Unfortunately, on the next bit, I got a bit cocky with the Warthog (I'd found a plasma grenade launcher for Jim the Marine) and got us surrounded by Elites. I leapt out and cowered in armour lock until the shooting stopped, terrified of having to restart. Jim didn't make it, but he'd served his purpose by buying time for my shields to recharge. The last Elite was fleeing down the road and I finished with him a killer snipe to the back of the head.

The Ghosts and the Revenant on the next objective ('switch on the two power generators') give me a couple of scares, but I played it safe and methodically cleared the area. Taking the Revenant out with the plasma grenade launcher was a heart-pounding moment - death is one small slip away.

Then it was back to Sword Base. I found a rocket launcher and a fresh marine and then it was time for the classic Halo Warthog Dance around the enemy vehicles, skidding expertly around the scenery at full pelt so they couldn't target me as Kat and my new marine dished out punishment with the heavy weapons. I couldn't see what was happening, but before long there were smoking Ghost and Revenant remains everywhere.

I knew the Hunters were coming up, and by this point I really didn't fancy starting again, so I used a cheeky tip I saw on here to flip the Gauss Hog over the road-block into Sword Base (boost it using armour lock). Sure enough, I edged it down the ramp, quickly swapped to the gun and dispatched both Hunters in about ten seconds while they were distracted by a cluster of marines. I highly recommend this.

The rest of the level was pretty standard stuff, except a really annoying fuel rod-toting Elite who I don't remember at all from my first play-through made my life a misery on the multiplayer map bit (with the criss-crossing walkways). He was on the third floor pounding anyone who appeared on the balconies. He decimated the marines I was supposed to hook up with before I had a chance to even talk to them, and it took quite a lot of aborted attempts before I was able to get across the walkway to the other side. Jorge ended up killing him, which was a bit disappointing.

So, all of that on one life on Heroic. I might watch it all back later.

I cracked and bought it yesterday, enjoying it much more than Halo 3 at the moment. Probably going to go online this evening which will be the first time I've had a go at multiplayer for about 18 months so look out for me if you fancy playing with somebody totally useless.

Have to say I've never really been one for the games' storyline, but there's such a great atmosphere - it really does pull you into the world.

On my first lay-through I didn't even notice him until I got up to the third floor, where I was able to sneak up and do my first assassination of the game. On subsequent play-throughs, he's spotted me ages before that, and I've had to kill him at range before he does the same to me.

What's the highest possible rating or the highest you've seen in Multiplayer? I just played an Arena Team Slayer game and somebody on the other team who dominated got 1763 which is 100 higher than anything I've seen before. Any advance on that?

At the end of the game:

Where the mission is just to survive, is it possible? I was running around for ages trying my best to hide but I soon get overrun by Elites, visor shot to bits and death.

Nope, not possible, it happens eventually no matter what.

Just finished legendary, aside from a few pure FUUUUUU moments, it wasnt too bad. Now to go back to heroic with skulls on and try and mop up any remaining cheevos :D

I think it goes to 2000 - and you start at the middle of the scale at 1st spawn.

Also had, with others from here - over 1700.

Cheers for that :) Tag is in my sig, but tbh I'm all about campaign when it comes to Halo games. I'm only playing matchmaking because I bought the game together with a couple of friends and they love deathmatch, and because I'm achievement whoring and having fun completing daily and weekly challenges whilst doing so. I'll be (re)playing the campaign for a long time, but fps multiplayer never has the same long-term appeal to me as Street Fighter. That is also why in the end I decided not to bother with the Rllmuk Reach tag.

Right, thanks to Reach I finally bought all the Halo music (downloads of course) and was Listening to Halo 2, Volume 1. Now I dunno if it's just I have certain expectations from my Halo music but is it me or is any song not done by Marty on that complete and utter shite?

Example 1st Movement of the Odyssey, aka Follow, which has a decent fast guitar rift if ruined by those twats Incubus singing "Follow. Follow. Follow. YEEEEEEEEEEEEEAH." Or howabout "Connected?" by Hoobastank? Hoobastank? That sounds like Jar Jar Binks asking someone if they farted. And of course Breaking Benjamin's "Blow Me Away." I remember that turning up as you entered the tomb of the Arbiters in Halo 2 and wondering where the fuck it was coming from, it was just so out of place.

Happily it doesn't seem in any Bungie Halo soundtrack did this. Thank fuck.

New to the halo series, could never get into halo 3 or just didn't give it a fair chance. Anyway, loving reach, it's making a great change from mw2 .

There's loads of stuff I don't understand though. Occasionally a box will POP up with a word and a few symbols. I presume its because I've met a challenge or something. Any guide to this online? Also when playing firefight, what's the actual aim? It's not like horde where you juwt have to survive against increasingly tough opponents as there's always a countdown. What does the par tick box mean at the end of firefight round?
