Left 4 Dead 2

I think Valve were stunned by the amazing retail success of Left For Dead, especially on 360. Therefore they decided to capitalise on this and release another.

Yeah I think this is part of the reasoning. L4D was a bit of a proving ground for Valve and more power too them. There is enough shitty games on 360. I will take the quality game every time.

Having seen the multiplayer footage, I think it could've been a DLC job. Aside from the new melee weapons there's nothing new technically. But still L4D2 means another box on the shelf therefore more monehs for Valve.

Does everyone think this will be a full priced title then? I want it to be in budget range but I can see this appearing at £39.99 + range.

I concur, having just watched the vids RubberJohnny posted up I think it actually looks a bit worse with the cartoony style ( though the footage is bad quality so it's tricky to tell ).

Looking good, the axe is great.

I've only seen the youtube vids too, but it doesn't seem much more cartoony than before. Do you mean with the frying pan noise etc, or the look of it? It just looks a bit brighter and more colourful because it's daylight, in New Orleans instead of Philly (or wherever it was).

Strange move showing off a sequel so soon after the game's release, but for me L4D got a bit stale a few months back anyhow and the survival mode didnt really do it for me. Looking forward to getting that L4D buzz back :(

* Left 4 Dead 2 development started shortly after the release of the original game.

* More Special Infected to come, the next one they're working on is a "he".

* Zombies with limbs blown off will die eventually, but are capable of surviving longer. (Seen in trailer.)

* Melee weapons have a couple different classes - "blunt" and "chopping", for example. More weapons will be released in those types of classes.

* Common infected have better sight at night time.

* Witches can be crowned with the axe.

* Wandering Witches' movements are erratic.

* L4D will continue to be updated. Community maps for L4D1 will be "instantly" compatible with L4D2.

* Story to be a bigger element, without cutscenes.

* Matchmaking and SDK out week after E3.

* The development team wanted to do something bigger than just a "few maps", or a "half-assed tacked on story that just didn't make any sense".

* In regards to storyline, "it's about the world, it's not about the character". Didn't want to be constrained to the same 4 characters.

* Characters will "progress and change" throughout the campaign.

* Rochelle works for a cable news network, (Not CNN) that covers a story in Savannah. It "doesn't work out well for them".

* L4D1 campaigns were "re-ordered" to come up with a sensible storyline. There is mention of "people on the forums" figuring it out. ("Mapping the whole journey", etc.)

* No "evil scientist" type backstory to the infected.

* Weather effects will occur - mentioned to be similar (in visibility) to the cornfield of Blood Harvest.

* "Biggest thing" they're working on in L4D2 - Corner camping / "Shiva stacking".

* Going to see conflict between humans and... humans. Mention is made of the military "testing" people for infection, and eventually shooting them.

* No social commentary, such as comparing CEDA to FEMA, for example.

This was posted on the Steam forums if it's anything new.

Great news this.

L4D was clearly the best game of last year, and this will no doubt be equally good fun.

Exactly. My fave game of last year and it looks like the new additions add a lot to the game. Good stuff.

I love this E3 already. :(

Whilst I am looking forward to this my only real complaint is that it isn't Bill and co, I just love them characters and that grizzled old bastard. I'm sure I'll warm to the other characters eventually but I'd rather have the old cast back.

It's also supposed to have some of the guys from The Wire doing the voices, or a few of them at least.

If some The Wire experts could watch them videos and say who that'd be great. I recognise one or two but no idea who they are.

Having just rewatched the trailer shown at E3, it seems to certainly be voiced by "Cutty" the boxing trainer guy who was in it from S3.

  • 2 weeks later...

The ESRB have asked Valve to tone down the game's box art as it included two too many missing digits.

The old:

The new:

There still seems to be something wrong with the image though. <_<

Does that particular two-fingered gesture have different connotations in the US? Would it even matter in the UK?

The gesture isn't offensive overseas in the slightest as far as I know, but I'd love to think Valve are well aware of what it means elsewhere and the new revised box art is a 'fuck you' to the the ESRB. It also makes more sense... Left Hand... Still 4 fingers, only 2 are up. The original one, by their own witty symbolism would read 'Left 2 Dead'.
