Left 4 Dead 2

I think i prefer the original left 4 deads levels. Im not sure why, maybe it's because it's set at night or because of the locations being more familiar (rail ways compared to swamps) but that doesn't mean L4D 2 is a bad game, it's still great, the new special infected don't ruin the game like they could have and i can always hope the original levels come back as DLC.

Apologies if this has been posted before:

LEFT 4 DEAD 2 GAME ADD-ON #1 ANNOUNCED

"The Passing" Brings L4D1 Survivors Down South

December 14, 2009 - Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Half-Life, Portal, Team Fortress, and Counter-Strike) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced the first game add-on for its co-operative zombie thriller, Left 4 Dead 2 (L4D2), is in development and targeted for release in early 2010.

Dubbed "The Passing," the first game add-on for L4D2 brings the original Left 4 Dead (L4D1) Survivors down south for a meeting with the L4D2 cast, while delivering new single-player, multiplayer and co-operative gameplay for the PC and Xbox 360.

Targeted for release in early spring, "The Passing" takes place just after the Dead Center campaign of L4D2. Set in a small town in rural Georgia, players assume the role of the L4D2 Survivors as they meet with the L4D1 characters.

In addition to the new co-operative campaign and associated narrative, "The Passing" will include new arenas for Survival, Versus and Scavenge mode and introduce a new co-operative challenge mode of play. The Passing will also include a new "uncommon common" zombie class, melee weapon, and firearm.

"The Passing will become the most important campaign in the Left 4 Dead story, as all the Survivors are being called together in one campaign," said Doug Lombardi, VP of marketing at Valve. "It will also be a huge offering of new gameplay content, with something new for every game mode plus a new uncommon common and weaponry."

Exclusively available for the Xbox 360 and PC, L4D2 sets a new benchmark for co-operative action games. The title adds melee combat to enable deeper co-operative gameplay, with items such as a chainsaws, frying pans, axes, baseball bats, and more.

With the AI Director 2.0, L4D's dynamic gameplay is taken to the next level by giving the Director the ability to procedurally change weather effects, world objects, and pathways in addition to tailoring the enemy population, effects, and sounds to match the players' performance. The result is a unique game session custom fitted to provide a satisfying and uniquely challenging experience each time the game is played.

Finally, with new Survivors, boss zombies, weapons, and items, Left 4 Dead 2 offers a much larger game than the original, featuring more co-operative campaigns, more Versus campaigns, new Survival maps, and the new competitive game mode, Scavenge.

Left 4 Dead 2: The Passing is targeted for release in early spring for the PC and Xbox 360. Pricing will be announced closer to launch.

It's pretty much exactly what I expected to happen but not this soon TBH. Hope they sort out some dedicated servers that can give decent ping; in time to play 8 player campains and 16 player versus.

Should be good, lets hope they don't have stupid gametesters again and end up canning the whole dynamic part of the level design.

God, I had an amazing time on this last night. Dark Carnival kicks my butt. I just can't make it through the gauntlet to the tunnel of love... however, we did get two guys into the saferoom. Then, the concert...

Was playing with three Americans, who were really cool. One of them was pretty good and full of useful advice, but no matter how many times we tried it, we just couldn't beat it. It was completely awesome fun, though - we were all saying that no matter how hard the game beats you down, you just can't help having another go. We'd be all like "Right! This time for sure, guys!" and then we'd get all the special infected (including a tank!) before we even got out of the corridor

Eventually, though, after a couple of hours they could take no more. I decided I simply had to at least finish it, so I joined an Easy game instead of Normal. Played through the whole campaign with a trio of achievement-hunting Brits. Even with one doing a gnome run, one using naught but melee weapons, and one calling dibs on clowns, it was hardly challenging. (Except I got punched out by the tank on the way to the chopper, and had to watch it take off without me <_< ) So I can say I've played through Dark Carnival now, except.. you know... it just wasn't nearly as much fun. I still really wanna do it on Normal :D

I'm glad there's another 360 player abouts. Add me if you haven't. I'm not going to be on much this week (job interview on Monday and deadlines to meet before then), but I'll be on regularly from then onwards.

So we up'd the ante a little and jumped from Normal to expert. Wow, talk about getting our arses kicked. Expert on the original was a walk in the park compared to this. Now I quite like the fact that the game has tactics to stop corner camping and to split you up, but for us it was just the relentless stream of normal infected hording us non-stop that got us.

We tried Hard Rain the first time as we found that the easiest campaign on normal, but barely made it out of the initial room before getting repeatedly killed. Didn't fare much better on the first campaign, managing to complete one level before getting heavily wiped out after the 2nd safe room. It strikes us we must be doing something fundamentely wrong here - anyone managed to succesfully tackle an expert campaign yet ? I'd be very keen to hear about the general approach - because mine isn't working at all.

Yea I've beat the first 4 campaigns on expert, and on 3 of them managed to get the whole party out alive.

I suppose all the usual advice applies, sticking together, keeping your backs to a wall, picking off the specials before they can do anything and keeping good communication between each other. You'll want to economise on health kits as well, only use them when you're seeing in black and white, when every hit is at least 20, hobbling around even on 1 HP is like having a free hit before having to heal. I also suggest avoiding the sniper weapons as well, or at least only one member on the team, they do 50 damage in friendly fire, which you really do not need when trying to protect each other.

What is essential is Boomer Bile. Any crescendo event that involves moving requires it, and a few other areas are certainly made easier by it. They're incredibly useful for the finale as well, when rescue arrives chuck one and use the time to move to the vehicle. Basically if you find one save it and use it on something tricky, don't just use them on any old thing.

As for difficulty we found Dead Centre to be the easiest overall once we decided where and when to use the bile bombs. Hard Rain was absurdly easy after the second chapter - I think we did the last 3 parts on the first try, before that it was nightmarishly difficult.

Played this local co-op with a pretty much non games playing friend a couple of nights ago.

He went from walk around looking at the floor to awesome back up buddy in the course of 2 hours giggling like a schoolgirl.

He left my house and bought a 360 and the game on the way home (yay for 24hr supermarkets) ....

Fantastic.
