A word of warning to 360 owners, both versions of the DLC are glitched to all holy fuck. People on other forums are reporting no-clip problems, AI scripting bugs that stop progress, spawn glitches in versus, graphic glitches and even that playing it resets all achievement progress to 0 (including Zombie Genocidest in L4D1, some people have gone from 40,000 odd kills down to 1).

Play at your own risk.

Ouch.

OK, yeah, this is happening. I downloaded it this morning before I read this thread, alas.

Basically local single player is absolutely fine. Played through it with no problems whatsoever. However upon trying multiplayer exactly what happened in that video happened to me. Also francis had no run animation for whatever reason, he just serenely floated around the level standing perfectly still, aiming his gun about.

there's also a bit where you release a tank that's trapped in a container, only when I released it, it was skinned as a hunter and seemed close to invincible (I was playing on easy to check out whether the level was bugged and so i could explore without the hassle of dying, and tanks on easy should go down like a sack of shit with 4 people shotgunning them.). After that everyone quit on me and I really couldn't be bothered to continue.

360 owners avoid this like the fucking plague.

Also the finale is stupidly easy, it feels completely ridicdulous to have to sacrifice someone, and the rest of the compaign isn't really up to all that much after the all the excellent locations in L4D2. It's back to dark abandoned factories and that. I haven't tried the re-do of No Mercy yet, but apparently that has a few joys all its own.

Most of it is fixed now, everything works off line and online if you choose a local server. (L4D2 it's an option in game, L4D1 is fine.) The problem was that valves servers weren't updated with all the new objects in the game (like the boats, bricks, the walkway at the start) and you could just walk through them, most servers seem to be updated now and back to normal.

That said, there are still two issues with the DLC, but they are L4D1 exclusive. If you haven't got all the achievements it wipes your progress, and most of the achievements are glitched on L4D1, the only two that work are completing it and sacrificing Bill, and even then they must be done in single player, not online.

I just played on another glitched server. It was very enteraining. You can tell if the server is fucked from the intro, basically. Usually you'll see the train rolling in and the survivors shooting zombies, but if the server is glitched then you just look over at the dock instead. On the glitched servers it is physically impossible to complete the second mission, because you noclip through the boat and into the water when you try and go across it.

Wonder how no mercy plays...

It does seem a bit of a bad deal for l4d1 owners.

l4d1 owners get:

The sacrifice dlc map pack for campaign, versus and survival.

l4d2 owners get:

The sacrifice dlc map pack for campaign, versus, survival, realism and scavenge.

No mercy for all game mode and optimised for L4D2 with l4d1 characters.

Several new mutation modes to play on all the available maps.

Just played through No Mercy on L4D2 and they've gimped some of the most satisfying parts for the infected when playing in versus, obviously to accomodate the new infected. So the crescendo event in Act 2 where there's a hole in the floor in the locker room you could drag survivors down as smokers and fuck their shit up has been mostly blocked by benches. The bit inside the hospital where you could drag people from a balcony onto the level before is permanently cordoned off. And the bit in the finale when you go up the ladder onto the rooftops is now 3/4s fenced off.

And yet they haven't fixed some of the most obvious camping spots like under the alcove in the Act 2 crescendo or wedged behind the bed in the Act 4 crescendo. Maybe they think the spitter and charger will naturally take care of that. One welcome improvement though is the movement of ammo, guns and health packs to the top of building in the finale instead of inside. The window inside the building on the left has also been replaced by doors.

I've decided L4D1 is much better than L4D2. I don't really know why, L4D2 just doesn't sit right with me - the characters, the location, the music, the new special infected etc. I booted up L4D1 last night for the first time since L4D2 came out and it felt like coming home. Besides, the L4D gameplay was incredible until it suddenly became boring after about six months constant play, and L4D2 never really added much to the core gameplay. I'd still buy an L4D3, but I'd want them to change the gameplay up quite a lot.

However, for a fiver, you'd be mad not to bite.

Yeah, L4D is the better game. The scenarios just feel right and they kept the items and weapons down to basics. Beauty in simplicity. L4D2 is great too of course, but it's not quite at L4D levels of awesomeness.

For anyone who's just bought L4D, I'd highly recommend the fantastic I Hate Mountains community made campaign, it's cracking stuff.

I much preferred the setting of L4D1, yes it was alot fo abandoned factories and little towns, but that just made it feel more like a zombie film to me. Something about L4D's setting jsut feels so much mroe apocalyptic than 2's. And i think the maps are just better designed overall. I preferred its dark locales to playing in sunny new orleans. And its characters are so much better than 2's. Still, for 6 quid, im looking forward to playing 2 maxed out on PC :D

This isn't opinion, this is fact. I said the exact same thing a few pages back. L4D1 is more atmospheric and has better level design because they don't have to accomodate chargers and jockeys. Because of the need to accomodate them the levels in L4D2 are often very wide and flat, and playing as a hunter in L4D2 is boring because there's fuck all high buildings to pounce off. One of the great joys of L4D1 was getting a 15-25 pounce damage which you pretty much never get the chance to do in L4D2.

There is something about the weapons in 1 as well. I am a gun whore, but the M16 and rifle nail it. Perfect for all occasions. I have never really been a shotgun man in either of the games. They are fun and occasionally useful, but I prefer the range and accuracy. 2 never captured me as much as the first.
