Microsoft Kinect

If it fails badly enough, could it dissuade MS from incorporating motion control into their next console?

I certainly hope so! If we're lucky the miserably failure of Kinect will mean that Microsoft finally reveal a next-gen console and that this console will focus on 'moar moar power!!' like MS consoles always have and not bother with motion control gimmicks at all.

I don't think that Microsoft exists in the current management set up.

I think for console gaming at home its going to be good for a relatively small number of dance and exercise games, providing you have enough space. On the whole a complete flop though. Never the less MS will adapt it to other uses - flogging it to gymnasiums with special fitness software could be a money spinner for a start.

Im actually wondering if Kinect is actually a small part of a much larger plan for MS. Bill Gates has said in the past about the exciting opportunities there are for the tech with Windows so perhaps this is Microsoft getting the tech out there in a family friendly package to raise awareness and eventually use a similar system for Windows PC once people are used to the concept.

Yeah right of course theyre going to say that  Lets be honest, Microsoft are not going to admit that they have seriously cut down the specs. I dont believe there have been any specs released but I remember some devs being vocal about MS cutting stuff out at the last minute and giving them dev kits that didnt match the original specs. Also if you watch the first promo videos, the ones where MS were saying that Kinect could scan real world items and then use them ingame and other cool features that are nowhere to be seen in the final product.

They obviously had to cut down on all the features and specs to get it to a semi-affordable price point. And even now, despite all the heavy cuts, it's probably still way too expensive

Oh God, we'll all be looking back at Vista fondly when we're forced to use Windows Kinect in 2020 after the great mouse burnings.

I don't know if you're being serious, but that's quite obviously financial suicide. Not enough people in the world care about a minor increase in graphical fidelity to make it worth them doing a "do-over" as per previous console cycles.

You should probably get used to the idea that it isn't going to happen for a very long time.

Remember that Jenna Jameson game?

No, but please tell us more! Is it for the Wii? If so, does the waggle improve the gameplay in the same way as it did for The Godfather, to name but one underrated motion control gem?

boo :(

Unfortunately that seems about as likely as Shenmue 3 appearing any time soon.

I can see myself return to PC gaming if there won't be a new console generation in a year or two.

Yeah which is not a bad option right now. With Steam you've got a similar service to Live, most games offer 360 controller support, and a building a 1337 PC isn't as expensive as it used to be. I always end up buying most of the consoles each generation, so if underpowered specs, waggle, and fitness are our unavoidable future in terms of console gaming then I can simply put the money I would usually spend on getting a console on launch day towards upgrading my PC. It's all good :)

Yeah, too bad I moved to Mac just a few months ago

Well, since as console gamers we think nothing of owning multiple platforms - I had a PS2, GC, and an Xbox last gen, and a 360, a PS3, and a Wii this gen - why not own both a PC and a Mac? If you aren't going to buy a next-gen console anyway, put the money towards a ninja gaming PC and keep the Mac for work and stuff. Problem solved :)

How was CoD2 a public beta? I'll give you PGR3, since it was obviously rushed to absolute fuck.

And Condemned. When I bought my 360 launch day I just got Condemned for the sake of if it really. I had no idea it was going to be one of the best titles for the machine full stop.

Thats exactly why i'm still running mine. You should be there already!

I honestly can't see anything being announced by MS unless Kinect dies but i'm still not sure if it will.

Its very expensive and theres a recession but thats not everywhere.

IMO, Sony will beat them too it - Polyphony are already working on GT6 which makes me think things are more advanced then's being let on.
