New Super Mario Bros. Wii

I did play through it on the SNES. That was a genuine question, what are your issues with the GBA port? If the game is so good I'm intrigued as to how it can be "diabolical" and "shit" on the GBA with the same levels etc. There was a long period between me experiencing the 2 games but the only things I noticed where the rainbow effect on the boss transformation and the Fuzzy level mentioned above.

I can only answer this by telling you to play the SNES original again. Preferably on real SNES hardware, using a nicely worn-in SNES pad.

If you don't like it fine, just don't tell me what I like.

Nobody did!

To answer your question, bear in mind that bcass almost single handedly killed of the VC thread with his endless trolling. I even remember him up in arms, complaining about the broken emulation when a Mega Drive game had a couple of sound effects weren't 100% accurate.

I don't think any of the ports have significant issues which fundamentally fucked what made those games incredible jn the first place. I'm sure bcass is about to correct me though.

It's not my fault your feeble attempts at character assasination fell flat. I'm sure you can do much better this time.

The GBA ports of Yoshi's Island and SMW are fantastic, that the managed to go back to those games, add a few things and port them so perfectly to a handheld is brilliant. Seeing SMW on it is why I bought an SP.

Also, NSMBW is brilliant. No, it's not as good as Yoshi's Island, which has a really special charm to it and is blessed with some of the finest level design ever to grace a 2D platformer. And no, it's not as good as Super Mario World, which has a really special charm to it and is blessed with THE finest level design ever to grace a 2D platformer. But you know what? I'm struggling to think of another 2D mario game better than it. Third place in a 20 year old series is pretty fucking good. Much better than what we get when most companies revisit their old franchises and update them.

You see I don't need to go to this level to enjoy games. It seems to me you may be a little bored of games. Plus not having the original hardware or a specifically worn pad with the left microswitch slightly dodgy doesn't make a great game like YI diabolical.

For what it's worth I think YI is the best of the Mario platformers if you're counting it with the others..... followed by NSMBWii

I didn't mean it like that. I just meant you should play the original SNES version. It's not anal. The SNES version is just a lot better. One of the best games ever made.

I always knew you were a fake scott. Your posts in this thread will forever haunt you.

Jesus mate, he's already been chilled to the bone by Sports Resort controlling his fun, and now he's getting haunted by saying he likes NSMB Wii? Harsh.

The GBA ports are pretty good, although SMW has been made a bit easier (which to be honest isnt a big deal) but the rest of the game is perfect.

Yoshi Island works well, I just didnt like the fact the screen seems too small making it hard to aim with the R button, whilst the SNES version allows more in your field of vision. The extra levels make up for that though, although dont think i played them.

A genuine reason why the GBA version may be seen as inferior.

I played the first of the extra levels and it was super hard. Didn't bother unlocking any more after that as I think you had to get 100 points on every level in a world to unlock them.

The amount of stuff you can see on-screen, the colours, the sound, the controls.

bcass is being a tool in this thread, but he's right about SMW and YI. NSMBWii does not come close - nor do the GBA conversions.

But this is just opinion isn't it? It's no more valid than me or anybody else saying we prefer NSMBWii to SMW is it?

I like lots of the NSMBWii stuff; the penguin suit, the dark levels, the rotating platforms. I like the added prominence of the star coins over the Yoshi coins in SMW. These are making me enjoy the game more than I enjoyed SMW (although not YI but I don't really consider that the same sort of game).

GBA Yoshi isnt as good, obviously, because the screens smaller and controls arent as nice. Why avoid the issue by just saying "if you played it you should know".

I thought I was picky about games, hz, frame rates etc but bcass is like the god of pedantry lately. And why so rude to everyone?

Actually it's PURE GAMER FACT. Yoshi's Island is The Best Game Ever. It is everything a videogame should be. Every single game that came before it on every platform, popular and otherwise was a case of fragmented elements of what could be, and finally, in 1995, it all came together to produce a gift from the gods. If you don't agree you're not just wrong - you're cognitively challenged.

The penguin suit is too overpowered, btw. IMO it shouldn't let you fire snowballs.

Because that would involve making a convincing argument, for a change. emot-smug.gif

A convincing argument about what, exactly? I've already said I don't rate NSMB Wii as highly as SMW or SMB3 - all I'm saying is that there are a lot of people that do thing it's up there, and their opinions don't deserve to be smugly put down by trolling idiots.

Oh, and in response to bcass: you started it. I only called you a cretin after you repeatedly slagged off anyone who happens to enjoy the game more than you.

if people haven't done it - really - go back and watch the skill videos. It's great pulling off triple jumps with a little waggle - the smooth flowing movement through the levels makes it obvious that every enemy placement, every movement, every block placement, every platform swing, is meticulously positioned and timed to be taken advantage of. At the first glance, you could look at a level and think it was nothing special - but when you see that level being played by a complete expert, it becomes more of a magical platforming dance. Where bullet-bills no longer become enemies but precisely planned moving platforms.

I understand, this level of thought and design has gone into pretty much all the previous 2D marios - but I hadn't really noticed it until now. I went back and did 1-1 and 1-2 over and over again just for the joy of it.

Yoshi Island was great, but i don't think it has as much replayability of Mario World. I liked the world map of Mario World, where Yoshi Island is more linear.

Don't get me wrong, the music and animation in Yoshi Island is great. But I didn't find it as enjoyable to play through as Mario world. My parents hated the mario crying sound, used to shout at me through the bedroom while at midnight, lol.

Its still one of my favorite platformers, but its not as good as SMW... of course this is *my* opinion.
