8-7 is my favourite level so far.

Holy shit the last level is the most epic bit of Mario ever.

The final Bowser battle is amaze! Overall I thought the game was too easy, people moaning about the difficulty must have banana's for fingers.

I'm finding the game quite difficult, either it's harder in general than Bros 3/World or my skills have gotten worse since I first played them & the only reason i do well in them nowdays is because i'm so familiar with their structure.

I really hope it's the latter. At least I haven't been bad enough at any level yet to have the Super Guide appear, but as i'm just entering World 8 that may change.

I've had the super guide appear a few times... some of the levels in World 3 had some quite tough bits in.

The thing is, and this is something that particularly 2D mario games do well - when I lose a life... I feel as though it's my fault.

I've seen the Game Over screen twice - only saved by the easy 1UP farming available in 1-2 (which I find great fun to do)

Contrary to most things i've read, I really like the multiplayer. I think 3 people is the sweetspot so far. Haven't found it too frantic at all. We only played up until the end of world 2, but I like the mix of vindictiveness and helping each other out. I've been playing with good natured, non-bitter people which I guess helps. It's excellent stealing someone's hard earned power-up or knocking them off their Yoshi and then getting chased across the map for revenge while the poor innocent third party has to struggle to keep up.

Finished the other night, really enjoyed the end, though it was made a bit easy by the propellor suit halfway through.

I'm going back through after the star coins and secret levels atm. The only thing I really didn't like about the ending was Peach telling Mario about world 9 and then it showing up on the world select screen. Seems a bit anti the whole "secret" thing.

STOP KILLING THIS THREAD

you're like Bruciebabie in a politics thread in OT

I don't want to start an argument or anything, but why is it only when new Nintendo games are discussed things go strange whenever criticism occurs? I was just reading through the Assassin's Creed 2 thread (because I am interested in possibly buying the game) and there's an actual discussion going about the game's flaws, as well as its merits. Same with most threads about any other non-Nintendo game. Obviously things can get a bit heated when any game or system is discussed, but it seems only new Wii games exclude anyone who isn't part of some massive love-in to contribute to the discussion. There ends up being no discussion.

It's more that whenever a thread pops up about a Wii game there's the inevitable 'Waggle-lol' 'Graphics-lol' 'Not a proper game-lol' comments that clog up the first ten pages or so. Also, unlike in other threads, if a Wii-game has faults they are usually magnified out of all proportion 'It's shit it's shit it's shit' and so the die-hard nintendo fans feel they have to respond in kind.

You can see a similar effect when someone questions aspects of the Xbox live service.

yeah, there always seems to me to be a lot of over the top negativity and insults thrown at not only new nintendo games but also anyone who dares to enjoy them.

Theres also the fact that all the people who hate nintendo are joined by all the people who think nintendo used to be awesome but hate everything they do now. Then any positive comments just attract a total shit storm of abuse.

I remember saying i enjoyed mario sunshine more than mario 64 once and basically being told i was a fucking retard who should go and die.

Ha, come on. This is bunkum and you know it. Anybody usually saying 'this is really good!' won't be as likely to get a verbal beating as 'anyone who thinks this game is the same as NSMB DS is clearly blind'. Stupid comments get stupid responses. It's the same oiks who repeat the mantras all the fucking time ('screw the haters!', 'they clearly haven't played this', 'I don't care about the negative nancies' etc.). These people's opinions are mostly worthless when it comes to the things they love because discussion is completely beyond them. Some people are saying similar things regarding Halo in the Top Game of the Decade thread so it's not just you lot ;)

I sort of understand these responses, even though I haven't seen that Dead Space thread - but (like many people I'm sure) I can't afford to just buy whatever, and so often base my purchases off rllmuk discussions on games. It's made me aware of some real gems I would have missed otherwise. Wii purchases haven't been quite so successful, however, and I stand by what I said when it comes to discussions on those games. There's a real defensiveness and "love in" thing that goes on, which makes it hard to tell if a game is really actually good. The Wario Shake Dimension thread is a one example of that I can remember off hand. Wii Sports Resort was another: its flaws were swept under the carpet and the critic's lack of soul or online-leaderboard-hardcore expectations were sooner brought up and criticized than the game's mechanics and content defended. Maybe at one point the 'waggle-lol' 'Graphics-lol' 'Not a proper game-lol' comments provoked all this, but I haven't seen much of that lately (but I'm forgetful and often oblivious to things, so maybe it happens.)

My main concern about bothering with this latest 2D Mario game is that it looks like so little has changed. If it's still fabulous in spite of that, I might get it (and force my fiance to play it with me to make it seem a bit fresher!) If, however, it's just good because the silly seasoned Mario hardcore player should expect less from Nintendo and "enjoy it for what it is", I might pass. :)

Maybe you should refrain from dismissing people's opinion because they didn't play the entire Mario canon to death on the original hardware.

Maybe people shouldn't be so defensive when someone dares make the smallest criticism of a video game they happen to like.

The thing I really miss about playing Super Mario World on the SNES hardware is the smell. The SNES (even its controller) smells amazing.

They should bring out a smell emitter for the Virtual Console, to give off that plasticky console smell.

You're right, but when you start calling people pig ignorant and flashing your hardcore credentials about when faced with 'endless, insufferable praise' then they've got good reason to be peeved with you.

Erm, hardcore credentials? I don't see you having a go at the various people in the thread who are far better at the game than me - all those people dick-waving about how easy they found it.

I'm not talking about whether people find this game easy or not, in fact that has literally nothing to do with this particular discussion, I'm talking about you saying that someone who hasn't completed Yoshi's Island on the SNES in 1995 with all the secret levels doesn't know what he's talking about when he says how much he likes an entirely seperate game released nearly 15 years later. It's nonsense.

To be honest, the Wii is pretty Marmite - we all know that. But the idea that there's some great conspiracy going on is unfair. These are both well-reviewed games in general and the threads were generally positive. What's wrong with that? bcass made the point that he doesn't like it as much as previous Mario games which personally I agree with. But banging on and on about it seems pointless when most people don't disagree but at the same time a lot of people are really enjoying it. To be honest, from many of your posts it seems like the Wii just isn't for you. Just like Bioware games are my personal Kryptonite. I long ago recognised that high scores for their games wouldn't mean that I would enjoy them. But I don't go into those threads and start telling people repeatedly that they're sweeping the game's flaws under the carpet or they're all saps because they like sitting through hours of tedious and irrelevant dialogue trees, if you see what I mean. (Not that I'm accusing you of that, but you know what I mean).

Personally I finished this last night and really enjoyed playing through a proper 2D Mario. It's definitely better than NSMB DS and it's really challenging in parts.
