Realised I must buy the last three expansions now, just hit level 60 and can't progress any further until I buy the next expansion.

FYI - you only need to buy and register Endwalker (the latest expansion) and you'll have access to the previous two expansions.

All the expansions do have inconsistent pacing at times... I hope it does grab you when it gets going though!

Do remember to do side stuff and crafting etc if the msq grind is getting to you for a bit. trying a different battle class can be interesting too!

I will power through, takes a bit longer with Heavensward as I actually watch and read most cutscenes. Having a bit of a hard time following everything in the story, too many dragons, crazy priests and mysterious men. 😁 But I think I have a grasp over the bigger picture.

Had to change all my bars too as it turns out I haven't really understood what all the spells do, there are maybe a bit too many different passives and statuses to keep track of. And everything is so bizarrely named making it even harder to understand what it does.

But really enjoying the game so far, my old record was about level 24 and I must say the game becomes much better after the first main game is done.

Looking forward to the rest as I bought Endwalker yesterday.

Heavensward done. People found and dragons slain. Was a nice story but I still hope for more combat and less teleporting only to watch a 3 minutes cutscene.

Almost level 64 on my black mage! 🙂

It's taken me a long time, but I finally finished Endwalker.

I really enjoyed most of it, there were some moments that really got me

Spoiler

Urianger and Moenbrydas parents, the voices in the final zone when you're alone.

But not 100% sure it earned certain other big plot points.

Anyone in here going for the two volume encyclopaedia of Eorzea books and kept up to date with previews or reviews or anything like that? My mum asked me what I want for my birthday and my mind just keeps whispering the two volume encyclopaedia of Eorzea books. I’m going to be 40 😳

I don’t really even play the game anymore. Will finally play through Endwalker perhaps over summer. Just wonder if reading the encyclopaedia will trigger massive FOMO just like playing the game purely for MSQ bizness does 😞

I am very tempted... but then I would need the earlier ones, and if I got those it would be a crime not to get the art books, and I don't have space or money for that!

You want to have played EW before looking too at the books too much... spoilers abound even in the advertising material!

I've been away since Endwalker as well, and wondering if its worth hopping back in yet. What story/side quest content has been dropped so far since Endwalker (without spoiling it, obvs)? And is there a new MSQ yet?

A erm "nightclub" on FFXIV have actually bought a billboard. Correction, four billboards. To advertise their ERP nightclub

I started playing (again, again) a few weeks ago and this time it actually stuck!  I’m a level 64 summoner on Spriggan where I got the XP boost and I’m part way through the patch content before Heavensward.  I LOVE this game.

I think I might see about levelling an alt class a bit, not sure what yet though.  Of course I have Scholar at level 64 too (such a neat idea that) so would aim for something a bit different, one that starts at 30 or 50 I guess.

I got this up and running on my new Steam Deck and am very impressed with how the whole thing runs. Finally, my dream of running levelling roulette dungeons on the sofa while my wife watches TV is a reality. I haven't been able to copy over my controller hotbar layouts to the Deck, despite Google telling me I should be able to. I've uploaded the config on my PS5 and then downloaded them on the Deck, but I can't see how to apply them. What am I missing?

Red Mage is alot of fun, it's dps rather than healer but also combines melee and casting (you can also cure and rez), it's my second job.

I also run this Discord for anyone looking for people to chat/play with

I need to do this. So it now runs well enough on the Steam Deck to buy with confidence? Previously it would just hang on the title screen or someshite.

Oh, and I never figured a way to copy hotbar layouts between different devices. I play mostly on a PS5 but occasionally on my old PS4 handed down to my sister if I was back visiting my family. I used to manually set it all up again, a particular ballache any time I unlocked a new ability for my rotations that I wanted to assign to the hotbar.

Yep! I followed this guide: https://goatcorp.github.io/faq/steamdeck.html

Great. So is it just the £9-odd ‘base game’ plus the £30-odd Endwalker expansion (Steam versions obv) that I’d need to buy to access everything again?

What would happen if I just got the base game and logged in with my usual account & character? I’m partway through Endwalker on PS5, would my man’s just wake up in Ul’Dah and be locked out of all the Endwalker content whenever I logged in via Steam Deck? 🤔 I suppose I’d also be locked out of Stormblood and Shadowbringers content.

Anyone else ever played using the same account across different platforms while only owning the expansions on one of them? Curious how it would work in terms of accessing items, gear etc. I’d imagine it’s a mess.

I'm have the non-Steam Windows version registered on my account, but that's basically it, yeah. Maybe you don't even need XIVLauncher if you have the Steam versions...

It's using the server backup function.

It's been a while I just used it to level low level jobs and do some crafting, sure I did some low level roulettes as well but no major issues with it. Only annoying thing was if I logged out in an expansion area, as then you can't login with the non expansion platform.

When I bought my Steamdeck, I was looking around for an MMO to play on it. I tried a few, but always found the mangled Steam Input configs to be not quite there and too fiddly to endure. Then a friend suggested FFXIV to me, on the basis that it was designed from the ground up for console controllers. Perfect!

It's now two months later and I'm on the final quest of the initial game MSQ... and I love it!

Honestly, it's weird. I could recount a list of things that I don't like about it, and it would be long - Like how it hasn't been remotely challenging so far; how its sense of "world" isn't as pronounced as WoW, due to the zone mapping; how it has way too much teleporting; how its quests are a whole lot of "go here, click this thing, come back"; those weird baby halfling things that just feel creepy... On paper, I shouldn't like it so much.

But despite all of that, I LOVE it. It's just so accessible. I love how I can play solo perfectly happily, or jump in a Duty Finder group if I'm feeling sociable. I love how I can mix and match classes or crafts, play a healer one day then DPS the next. I love how you can just follow the MSQ and not worry about any other filler quests. I love the MSQ and its overcooked JRPG drama. I love how flamboyant and ridiculous it is, how standing in the main square in Lima Liminosa feels like the coolest kind of freak show.

I'm amazed by how un-monetised it feels. I didn't realise there was a shop until 30 levels in, and only found it because I was googling something else. In a world where games feel scummy, FFXIV feels the opposite. It feels like a game, not a scam.

Even my complaints about difficulty and sense of world feel like nitpicking. I know that it is easy because I'm been hurried through the older content to get to the newer stuff. And as I'm getting to higher quests, I'm starting to see how the world fits together. It's not quite "running through Wetlands to get to Iron Forge at level 15", but it's satisfying nonetheless.

At the moment, my plan is to just keep playing, to enjoy it all as far as I can go, to take my time and enjoy the sights. Can't wait, to be honest.

I still need to get it for Steam Deck but it’s slightly galling having to pay for it all again. Fairdo’s the base game is only a tenner, but getting all the expansions is another £40-ish, which I’ve already paid for the PlayStation version, not to mention my £8 per month sub that I’ve paid for the past 12 months+

I ask this all the time, but how is it on Steam Deck? It sounded a messy process getting it to run before, is that all sorted now?

I need it mostly as an alt-job levelling outlet. I’ve only ever been a tank (Gladiator into Paladin, plus a verrrry brief dabble with Dark Knight) across the 700 hours I’ve played of it. A pretty bad one at that  I just know my muscle memory (played the whole thing on a joypad) will be my undoing when I’m suddenly tasked with being a healer. I can already see the chat cussing me out 🙈

Absolutely fine. I'm running the Steam version, I should say. The non-Steam version did require some hoop jumping, as you might expect. But the Steam version is fine.

The only issue I have encountered is that an external joypad isn't detected in game until you hit the steam button, weirdly. After that it works fine. Not an issue if you're playing handheld.

Whilst some of your complaints will continue for some time in the game, the good news is the quality continues to climb with Heavensward being quite a step up in storytelling and other elements. Unfortunately the difficulty will always be a breeze up until the newer expansions, which does suck. I do recommend looking into the hard modes for bosses in Realm Reborn and future expansions as those are actually hard and scale you down in level to match, so you can get a sense for what the combat's like with some challenge. Overall though the game just gets better and better as you go on - enjoy!
