Castlevania: Lords of Shadow

I cannot say this strongly enough : DO NOT BUY THIS DLC

The second set has 2 chapters (JUST 2!)

Both follow the same pattern. A long "run away from instant death" - but it's just too fine to escape. You have to do EVERYTHING perfectly to escape - so it becomes an excerise is dying to find the correct route/tricks, and then reloading and repeating. Extremely frustrating - especially since the platformin is so lackluster and Belmont handles like a tank.

The second part of each is an EXTREMELY repetative boss fight that quickly becomes a drawn out war of attrition.

The plot is pretty much absent too. It doesn't really answer very much - and Belmont's final motivation is left hanging. We don't really know much more than at the end of the last DLC.

Eurgh. Horribly disappointing.

Starting it now. Reverie was pretty bad for its price, I hope Resurrection at least provides me with proper boss battle.

edit: after 5 minutes I have seen more loading screens than anything. Instant deaths followed by a 'do you want to continue from the last checkpoint yes/no' screen where the default option is 'no' followed by loading screen that leads to that same unskippable cutscene you have seen a dozen times already is not what I call very user friendly.

Brilliant, and now I need to jump from platform to platform. The double jump must be used but if you are a few pixels off you will either not make the jump or jump too far. I am starting to wonder if the base game was ever any good...

edit: I could not be bothered after and set it to easy. Finished it and the only that that must be Forgotten is the 20 euro I paid for the two DLC packs. Both absolutely terrible.

Just picked this up as i saw it going for 12 quid and thought itd be rude not to.

Have to say, its not doing it for me so far, but im only like, hour and a half in so ill give it some more time. So far, the game looks gorgeous, but too good, as the framerate struggles to keep up. The camera is jerky as fuck and i wish to god theyd just let me control the damn thing myself. Mapping block and dodge onto the one button was a bad idea too.

The actual meat and bones of the gameplay just seems average, the death bog part was annoying and the platforming is weird, like it doesnt know wether it wants to do auto-platforming a la uncharted or proper platforming a la...castlevania. Combat is...okay. Doesnt really feel like im really doing much damage. I got as far as the SOTC rip off and turned it off as i kept dying.

Plus side, looks lovely, story seems interesting at least, and its got begbie in it.

It's a bit of a rubbish game - but the worst is clearly the first few chapters. Stick with it, since the actual Castlevania-ey bits can be rather ace.

Also best ending ever.

The fucking stone titan <_<

Whos god damn idea was that? Seriously, i was somewhat enjoying the game up til now. Its got so many flaws, the platforming really is rubbish, the combat is just serviceable, but i was playing on anyway as i liked the setting and it looks gorgeous. I was getting into the game anyway, enjoyed riding around on the spiders and wargs and shit too. I was just starting to overlook the flaws and enjoy it til the stone titan. The ice titan was crap, but the stone titan is just abominably crap. And its a shame as it shouldve been completely epic, instead youre thrown into a completely counter intuitive fight where youre not even given any visual clues as to what you should be doing, by sheer luck i figured out the throwing rocks back at her gig, got as far as the 2nd weak spot and eventually just turned it off. I didnt even get killed but i just kept getting knocked off every fucking time.

I don't remember any problem with that fella. How is the platforming bad? Swinging and leaping around everywhere was fine from what I remember. Also once you learn that you need to block, dodge and be a bit smart with the fighting it proves itself better than God of War I think, and you feel like a proper don once you power up.

I'm still not bothering with DLC until they knock the price down though.

Well id agree about it feeling better than gow3. I hated that fucking game.

No the problem with the stoen titan was just how badly laid out the fight is. There was nothing to suggest you need to get the hell away from it to start the rock throwing bit, when i eventually did fluke that, i caught a rock nd the on screen prompt for how to throw it flashes up for a half a second so i had to fail it like 3 times just so i could eventually see what the prompt was telling me to do. Then once id finally smashed up 2 of its weakpoints, im expected to know that when it smacks me with its hand i have to grapple it with the cross despite there not being any kind of prompts. Its just an awfully designed boss.

The platforming could do with being more like darksiders. Its just not enjoyable. Its too restrictive and automated for the most part.

This is jsut one of those games where you know a sequel that fixes all these issues would be amazing, but as it is, its merely an 'okay' game. Also, why is geralds (or whatever his name is) neck the same width as his shoulders?

And it gets easier, oddly - except for the odd spike here and there. You'll not want to stop playing once you reach the vampire's castle.

Thats where im up to now, and its been great for the last few chapters, for a game with as many issues as LoS has, i spent most of the day yesterday playing it! So its doing something right.

Without wanting to be hyperbolic, I do consider this to be one of the worst games I've played this generation. I only completed it through sheer bloody mindedness (and a desire to see the highly praised ending, which was actually pretty awesome). It just felt like work half the time.

Shame really, as it is totally bloody gorgeous. Something about it just rubbed me up the wrong way. :(

The middle section of the game is by far the best. It does drop off again for the last 2-3 chapters or at least it did for me. Loved the middle though.

I really liked this! It started a bit slowly and had the odd moment where the difficulty flew sky high, but I really enjoyed playing it. I'm a big Castlevania whore too so if it was going to rub anyone up the wrong way by not getting the vibe right it was me... still really liked it :).
