First I was like ;)

And then I :P :lol:d

Haha. Freud would have a field day.

Back to the issue, I'm not reasoning that opponents like that can't be done. Just offering up a postulation as to why the creatures and whatnot are so frequent in these titles. They offer a path of less resistance when they're your own machinations that display a wide variety of behaviours - providing a flexibility that is welcomed as you try to hone your mechanics. It's all too easy to see it as "lazy" but only a select few developers have the privelege of taking as long as they like and being able to take risks or do something different. Thus, erring towards more established formulas with accomodating, fantasy elements is inevitably going to become alluring when the pressure is on. To re-iterate, all of what you mentioned is perfectly possible, and could go towards an ace Mad Max game (which I'd love to make) but game development is driven by so many other factors these days* and a creative, intelligent or arty take comes way way way down the list.

* Just like Kevin Smiths tale of the executive producer intent on getting a giant mechanical spider into any film he could, irrespective of the accompanying content.

Just wondering, but are you some kind of bot? The last few days, you've only been posting vids and quotes from elsewhere... Not that it's problematic or something, but it's slightly creepy...

Thems fightin' words. ;)

Kidding. ;)

I'm not a bot, I usually check all the sites in the morning and figure why not post what I find interesting as others might also find it interesting. (plus it doesn't hurt to keep threads up to date with the latest news, etc)

After watching that presentation, the claptrap thing, and that trailer, I'm well looking forward to this now, I may even make it a day 1 purchase now. It's looking very good indeed. I'm still a little disconcerted by the environments though - did they not say that it wasn't all wastelands at some point? Or did I imagine that?

This was on my to-buy list but I'm not so sure now.

I think it's on there simply because there is very else little coming out.

From the early previews it sounded like this was going to be an interesting mashup between FPS and RPG. Now it just sounds like an FPS with some randomised weapons dropped as loot. And maybe a not very good FPS to boot.

I'm holding off until I see some reviews.
