Borderlands from Gearbox

I've been looking at this and I think I'd like to give it a go. Which format is the one to go for? I've got a PC that'll cope with it fairly easily, but also 360 and PS3.

Prompted by the fact that the PS3/360 versions are £18 on Zavvi.

Whatever's easiest then. I understand getting it running on PC takes a bit of fiddling.

I've played through it twice on both PS3 and 360 and apart from some tearing when 'fast travelling' or 'respawning' on PS3, they're almost identical

PC version is cheap from some places - not so cheap on Steam tho (I got it for £20 in the Steam sale tho it's even cheaper from some online stores).

It's Unreal engine so it works on most PCs but some people do grumble about crashes etc. so maybe 360/PS3 will be the simpler solution.

One thing - it doesn't play with a 360 pad on PC (at least my version won't), in fact if I leave the pad plugged-in it goes a bit mental and my char just spins around!?

No, I have it on PC and can tell you that it is definitely a made-for-console game which has been ported (badly) to PC, you need to mess with a load of .ini files to make fixes that really should have been made by the developers, and the way that the menus work reek of console.

Is there a non-abusive way of topping Mothrakk? He takes so long to grind down and does so much damage, the only way we could do it was by

hiding like bitches in the car spawn and occasionally jumping out to take a few pot shots

. And even then he downed us a few times and killed us twice- fortunately the respawn is within 'pegging it' distance of our hideout :)

Split up. He can't take you both down at the same time that way

That's my technique.

However, you could wait until the mission is 'Trivial', it's much easier after that.

For what? I've not actually bought it yet...

There's a few graphics settings you can't maximise without messing with the .ini, and the field of view for screens with an aspect ratio other than 4:3, a couple of other small things.

However, having access to the .ini does mean that you can make it skip the startup movies, which, as trivial as it sounds, makes the game much less of a chore to get into and (me and the guy I play with both agreed) actually improved the game experience quite significantly.

But as I say, there are a few things which you can't fix; the way that the menus and controls work is obviously designed for a controller rather than a mouse. Although you might have a controller for your PC, in which case it would be fine.

New DLC Confirmed - The Secret Armory of General Knoxx,

Gearbox and 2K Games today announced their third piece of downloadable content for the hugely popular Borderlands.

The Secret Armory of General Knoxx, which is described as "the largest DLC for Borderlands to date," allows you to face off with "brutal, never-before-seen enemies in a huge new environment complete with tons of brand new missions."

This is the same piece of DLC we reported on last week which raises the level cap from 50 to some unknown number, as was confirmed by today's announcement.

No price, no release date, no level cap details.

I hope there are enough missions and enemies on the new DLC to take me from level 50 to whatever the new cap will be, especially if there's an achievement for doing so, as I've completed Playthroughs 1 & 2 of the normal game.

I've done PT1 (Level 36) I tend headed into the Zombie Island/did a bit of PT2 to avoid being way higher than the content, but it didn't work (Zombie Island done and I'm only halfway through the first area of PT2 and already 41) and so I have to start trawling PT2 when it's almost trivially easy.

The lowest enemies for Zombie Island (PT2) is around 42 - that would probably be more fun tbh...

This really would be a better game across-the-board if you could amp/adjust it's difficulty - far too much of is is trivial/easy and therefore a bit tiresome really.

It's a shame too - because when it is working, it's really loads of fun - esp multiple enemies (the bosses could fairly be described as unchallenging).

Play in co-op it's totally manic, far more challenging, and the amount of enemies/badguys on screen is INSANE.

Also new DLC = AUTOBUY! :P:):P

  • 2 weeks later...

Im level 25, and am a bit stuck. Some of my live missions take me to Rust Commons East, an area with several rocket turrets and gun emplacements. Although the missions are 'Normal' difficulty, I get killed before I can get through the area to go to the next. Is there a way to negotiate this area without being shot to death by bullets and rockets..?

If you're referring to the bit after the 'lock' in the top right, heading towards Krom's canyon, then yeah, that can be a little tricky.

Just make sure you have an accurate sniper and you can take the turrets down at a distance greater than they can shoot you at

Is this just as enjoyable offline? Because I'm quite interested seeing as it's going for less than twenty dabs now, but don't have any friends .

And does the game keep challenging you/force you to vary your approach, right up until the end? Having just played Dragon Age for fifty hours, I spent the last third repeating more or less exactly the same tactic for every battle simply because it worked very, very well and the enemies I was facing didn't require that I should change it. Similarly, my uber-Small Guns skillz in Fallout 3 meant that the last 20 hours weren't anywhere near as fun as the preceeding eighty as I had a head explode button every time I pulled the right trigger. (That really sounds like a pathetic criticism when I read it back. Nevermind). Does it avoid FF7 demi-God syndrome?

And is collecting all the loot fun, or do you become scarily aware that you're spending hours at a time comparing miniscule differences in statistics? Again, after Dragon Age, Fallout and Torchlight, I fear I might be all looted out.

I might just get Bayonetta and stop asking annoying questions...

But for pure awesomeness...

Being stabilised makes so much of a difference. Especially with that accuracy and that zoom

This helps too...

I can't post pics right now but I've got a Double Thanatos with the following stats:

Damage - 188 x2

Accuracy - 83.8

Fire Rate - 15.4

Magazine Size - 62

And I use it with the following Gunslinger Class Mod:

+84% Pistol Fire Rate

+4 Deadly Skill

+3 Loaded Skill

+23 Pistol Ammo Regeneration

I've got trespass at 5, too. It's just overkill, really. The bullets fly out in a pretty tight spread and it's basically just a hose of death.

Sounds good. Needs a scope though. Does it have a scope?

Scope + Stabilisation = MEGADEATHKILLZ

I'm really getting in to this again, had a couple of games with my friend last night. I really fancy the dlc, but to be honest, with another being released in such a short time frame, I'm tempted to just hold out for the inevitable bundled edition, which will probably end up being cheaper than downloading them all separatley, aka fallout.
